Arceus in One Piece - Chapter 39
Just a few minutes ago, the people around were still allies, but a few minutes later, they were already engaged in combat.
Betrayal is not uncommon among pirates. Most pirates are prepared for internal conflicts at the moment they form alliances. They can unite for interests or engage in struggles for the same reason.
Whether the alliance is trustworthy and to what extent it can be maintained depends on one’s own judgment.
Arceus can offer Kaido irresistible temptations. At least Kaido is much more reliable than John. They have no conflicting interests; Arceus needs manpower to search for stone tablets, and Kaido wants a legion of ability users and powerful companions.
Unless someone brings a Devil Fruit tree to Kaido or brings a dozen stone tablets to Arceus, this alliance is quite solid. Moreover, what Arceus hates most is betrayal and deception.
He may not control others, but at least he won’t do such things.
Silver Axe and John’s subordinates began to fight. Gunshots occasionally rang out below. Firearms, as hot weapons, were still important weapons. Compared with cold weapons that require long-term training to develop combat power, firearms can be easily mastered with simple operations.
The weaker one’s strength, the more important the firearm becomes.
Even powerful snipers can cause fatal injuries with guns to heavily defended enemies. However, such people are still in the minority.
Cold weapons are still mainstream. Swords, axes, and even iron picks and shovels used to dig for treasure have become weapons. They are all great pirates in the New World, but their subordinates also vary in strength, and only some are proficient in Haki.
Hundreds of pirates fell in the first battle, and the battle between John and Silver Axe had just begun.
Silver Axe was relatively small in stature but possessed immense strength. He came from a country skilled in forging, and his armour was made of special metal. Although heavy, its defence was extremely excellent, and it reflected a bright silver light under the moonlight.
He swung his large axe, and each strike flew towards John. However, John, wielding dual swords, did not confront Silver Axe head-on. He skillfully avoided his attacks and charged towards him.
Silver Axe was a power-type, heavily armoured warrior, and it wasn’t wise to confront him head-on.
Seeing John charging, Silver Axe didn’t dodge but instead gripped the axe handle with both hands. He understood John well enough that he didn’t need to pick up his shield because John couldn’t break through his defence.
Apart from a small observation port near his eyes, his armour was seamless. Only the joints were relatively weak defensively, but with the enhancement of Haki, he was confident he could block John’s attacks.
So, he raised the large axe high, intending to withstand John’s attack with his body while dealing with him. But John just feinted a move, dodged Silver Axe’s axe blade while approaching, and then stabbed under Silver Axe’s rib with his sword.
Silver Axe sneered at this. The armoured part of his body was wrapped in dense Armament Haki. Then, he turned around and smashed towards John. An axe is a heavy weapon, and even without using its blade, just a simple swing could cause effective damage.
However, in the next moment, his figure showed a slight pause.
“You… when did you eat a Devil Fruit!” John’s long sword pierced into the armour, but the armour remained intact. However, Silver Axe could feel the sword blade penetrating his body.
Due to the habit of wearing heavy armour, Silver Axe’s Haki was always attached to the surface of the armour. There was very little Haki attached to the body inside, so when John’s attack ignored the armour, his body would naturally be pierced.
This wasn’t the effect of internally destroying Armament Haki; he could feel the blade inside his body. Only a weird ability could achieve such a thing.
“How could I tell you such a thing?” John rotated the blade in his hand, intending to give Silver Axe a fatal blow. However, more than this wound was needed to make a monster like Silver Axe lose combat effectiveness.
Facing the large axe swung by Silver Axe, John could only temporarily avoid its edge. Failing to take down Silver Axe with one strike disappointed him. Such opportunities were rare.
Silver Axe, having learned his lesson, would undoubtedly attach Haki directly to his body. However, blood flowing from the joints of the armour showed that John’s strike had achieved remarkable results.
After the battle of the Valley of the Gods, John found a Devil Fruit and secretly became an ability user. Even his crew members only knew this to a limited extent.
Paramecia-type – Door Door Fruit.
Just now, he opened a corridor in space, completely avoiding the bombardment of this artillery.
“You… what kind of fruit did you eat?”
“Only an idiot would tell you. That slash should have pierced your kidneys. I want to see how long you can hold on!”
At this moment, he only regarded the person who fired the artillery as Silver Axe’s subordinate. When Ochoku brought more people to encircle other members of John’s pirate group in the lake area, he realised the seriousness of the problem.
“Ochoku.”
“John, open the door to the treasure. Even if you’re an ability user, you won’t stand a chance against both of us.”
“Well, it’s not surprising that you two guys are messing around together. But if you want my treasure, it will have to be in your next life!”
When it comes to treasure, John had no intention of compromising. A strange force was injected into the ground from his body. This place was the graveyard he designated for these people!
