Be the Main God from Naruto - Chapter 58
The most formidable Chunin Exam in history, with nearly six hundred contestants participating, plus the spectators, meant that nowhere in Konoha could accommodate everyone.
Fortunately, Tsunade had prepared well in advance. With the strong support of Orochimaru and Jiraiya, a massive arena was constructed outside the village, large enough to house all attendees.
“It feels a bit like the Olympics now.”
Wang Yan found his seat, holding a cone of ice cream, savoring it contentedly.
Meanwhile, under his control, the “League of Legends Squad” entered in sequence.
A ninja wearing sunglasses and a microphone in hand, his voice amplified throughout the venue: “Coming up next, from the Ninja World Peace Council, is the ‘Cleaver Squad.’ You can see they are very distinctive.”
“The King of Barbarians, Tryndamere! I’ve never heard of ‘Barbarians’ before, but this one truly has the aura of a king. Perhaps I’m just uninformed!”
“The Grand Duelist, Fiora! I personally really like this classy lady! Go, Fiora!”
“The Exile, Riven… Oh, wait! This contestant’s name is Riven! She’s very popular, and it’s said that she knocked out a well-known veteran, Chunin, with a single strike in a street fight a few days ago! She already has quite a following!”
“The Wuju Bladesman, Master Yi! There hasn’t been much information on contestant Yi recently…”
“The Unforgiven, Yasuo! This contestant seems to be a serious drinker, and many in the audience are his drinking buddies.”
After introducing the five members of the Cleaver Squad, the host waved his hand toward another group dressed in black robes with red clouds.
“Alright! The next team-up is… Little Paper Balls!”
When these words fell, a female Leaf ninja whispered something in the host’s ear.
“Oops? What? Sorry, sorry!”
The host quickly corrected himself, “My apologies, I misspoke. This team’s official name is ‘Akatsuki.’ They are a complex mix with mysterious backgrounds, and very little is known about them! They could be dark horses in this competition!”
“Currently, the only information we have on them is their code names.”
“They are Tsukiyomi, Elder, Shark, Redhead, Devotee!”
Boos erupted from the stands.
Part of it was due to Akatsuki’s mysteriously pretentious aura, and another part was directed at the contestant called “Elder.”
His appearance was ordinary, the only notable feature being his flesh-red sclera and pure green pupils, resembling dull and inferior gemstones.
This “Elder,” who seemed to be only about twelve or thirteen years old, was using such a code name?
Are they taking advantage of others?
He might end up beaten to the ground, unable to get up!
“Tsukiyomi!”
Sasuke’s pupils contracted slightly, his fingers trembling.
He controlled himself with his willpower, trying to appear calm.
But a glance was enough for him to be sure that the one named “Tsukiyomi” was his brother, Itachi Uchiha!
“What’s wrong?” Sakura, sensitive to Sasuke’s mood change, asked.
She had read the prophecy book but focused entirely on her and Sasuke’s emotional developments, paying little attention to other aspects.
The host had just mentioned a contestant from the Grass Village, that “vile female antagonist” competing against her for Sasuke, Karin Uzumaki.
Sakura’s attention was entirely on her supposed rival.
“How do you plan to handle it?” Sakura asked, concerned.
Sasuke seemed relatively calm.
He smirked, clenched his fists, and said, “Defeat him!”
To combat Itachi, Sasuke had specially spent reward points to obtain targeted items, thoroughly prepared.
With the element of surprise on his side, his chances of winning were not low!
Nearby, Rock Lee and Naruto were arm wrestling while Tenten muttered to herself, holding her beloved gun case, oblivious to the exchange between the two.
Soon, 575 of the 590 contestants entered.
Due to various reasons, three teams suffered losses before the competition and had to withdraw in resentment.
The host’s voice filled the venue, “I assume everyone is familiar with the exam process by now.”
“The exam is divided into two stages: a written test and a combat challenge!”
“Best of luck to everyone who is adapting and overcoming the challenges to achieve good results!”
“I declare, the written exam begins now!”
Disrupted in their seating arrangement, the contestants dutifully sat down, focusing inward, avoiding any actions that might lead to deductions.
In the VIP stands, the lords from the five great nations sat upright with solemn expressions, showing none of their usual laziness or arrogance.
This solemnity gradually influenced the rest.
Of the audience.
The previously noisy arena quieted down.
The assembled lords had agendas; were they acting against their nature just to give Konoha face?
Impossible.
This was Wang Yan’s doing.
He had rudely hypnotized all these lords.
Mind manipulation! Will twisting! Memory rewriting!
Changing others’ consciousness for his benefit had proven immensely beneficial to Wang Yan.
Simply put, this maneuver increased his ability and experience by a notch.
Compared to the relaxed and comfortable Wang Yan, most of the over five hundred contestants looking at their papers appeared bewildered.
“Ninja Ideology, Culture, and Morality Test Paper.”
The first few low-value questions were routine, covering content learnable at the Ninja Academy, like multiple-choice questions on maintaining ninja tools, shuriken, and kunai throwing techniques.
But the entire paper was worth a hundred points, and the academy-taught content only made up about 10 points!
What about the remaining ninety points?
They were filled with baffling multiple-choice and essay questions.
For example, question eleven:
[“You have just completed a grueling mission. Your physical strength and chakra are nearly depleted.”
[“You see an old man who has broken his leg and is leaning against a tree, all alone.”
[“What would you do? (Note: This area is dense with carnivorous wild animals, and the old man is just a common herb gatherer.)”]
A. Ignore the old man
B. Carry him to safety
C. Kill all the predatory animals in the area
D. Kill the old man
Naruto and Rock Lee unhesitatingly chose B.
Sasuke hesitated for a moment but also marked a check on B.
Not far away, the “Elder,” contestant Juzo Biwa, decisively chose A.
“No benefit, no action.”
Itachi, after some thought, circled C.
Compassionate as ever, he wasn’t concerned about the old man’s life or death but about the safety of other residents in the area.
But behind Itachi, Gaara, sitting back seat, uniquely chose D.
After three years in a virtual game, his personality had changed, but his essence had become more ingrained, evolving from a homicidal fool into a scheming youth.
“If I don’t kill this old man, he will surely be eaten by wild animals, and the outcome will be even more tragic.”
“The conditions given in the stem are, ‘I’ have lost both strength and chakra, struggling even to protect myself, let alone someone else. If I overestimate my abilities trying to save someone, both will likely die miserably.”
“So, options A, B, and C are all wrong!”
“D is the only correct answer!”
The seemingly most cruel choice might be the only correct one.
But…
Was his chosen answer the right one?
In the stands, Wang Yan read Gaara’s thoughts.
His lips curled slightly, sketching a meaningful arc.
