Be the Main God from Naruto - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: The Harsh Question Setter
Compared to the self-confident Raikage A, the Mizukage Mei Terumi was much more perceptive.
After all, following the bloody civil strife of the Mist Village’s “Blood Mist” era, the village was like a self-maimed entity, and Mei, without overwhelming power, had to compensate in other ways.
She keenly sensed the barely concealed schadenfreude from Tsunade and Gaara.
Then, the question arose.
What had Raikage A done wrong? Not only was he unaware of his mistake, but she had not even noticed it initially.
Mei’s beautiful eyes narrowed as a playful smile played upon her lips.
In just a blink, she figured out the answer.
Konoha’s elite jonin, Wang Yan!
Just now, the Fourth Raikage A, thrilled by the hunt, wanted to challenge this seemingly ordinary ninja to a fight.
If it were only the Fifth Hokage Tsunade showing such an attitude, Mei would not have thought much of it, merely assuming Tsunade was overestimating the strength of Konoha’s ninjas due to arrogance.
But the Fourth Kazekage Gaara seemed to share Tsunade’s view.
That was quite intriguing.
“Take a good look, this young man named Wang Yan is quite handsome…”
Mei turned her head, smiling slyly at Tsunade, “I wonder if Lady Tsunade would be willing to part with him and let me have him?”
“Hehe, you do love your jokes.”
Tsunade responded with a forced smile, but this only increased Mei’s curiosity about Wang Yan.
She sensed Tsunade’s barely hidden reluctance and hostility.
Why?
Was it merely because he was a powerful Jonin? What made Tsunade value him so highly?
Could Wang Yan even compare to Orochimaru and Jiraiya?
Mei didn’t push further as she still hoped to leave a good impression on the other Kage for future alliances.
Her gaze rested on Wang Yan, her eyes shimmering yet unable to penetrate the mystery surrounding him.
At that moment, Wang Yan shyly smiled, “Hello everyone, I am the setter of this written exam.”
His voice was no louder than average speaking volume, yet every spectator and candidate could hear him.
His demeanor was like that of a clean-cut sixteen-year-old boy standing shyly in front of a girl he had long admired, appearing innocent and gentle.
Some of the more resentful candidates found their anger dissipating somewhat upon hearing this.
Hearing this, the Fourth Raikage A’s enthusiasm for challenging Wang Yan diminished considerably, even complaining, “What! He’s just a kid!”
Initially, seeing Wang Yan fly and demonstrate his ability to collect exam papers telekinetically, A had assumed that Wang Yan had “powerful chakra control,” a “fierce character comparable to the Third Tsuchikage, Ohnoki of Both Scales.”
Now, A felt he might have been mistaken.
He irritably punched the air.
A thousand armies are easy to obtain, but one rival is hard to find.
Who understands this loneliness?
The rough exterior of Raikage A was just self-admiration.
Meanwhile, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto of Team 7 felt a chill enveloping them, unable to shake it off.
“So, about that last discussion question…” Sakura covered her mouth, her jade-like eyes flickering with anxiety.
“We’re doomed! Doomed!”
Naruto, looking like misfortune personified, collapsed on the ground in a fetal position, completely pale.
Sasuke stared intently at Wang Yan, his face ashen: “Enemies of multiple Six Paths Sage Rikudou Sennin levels, Otsutsuki Kaguya level… According to the prophecy, they should be aliens from the Otsutsuki clan, but weren’t they supposed to come to the shinobi world much later? Nine months… What’s the difference between that and no preparation time at all?!”
He had recently been part of Orochimaru’s genetic enhancement experiments along with Naruto, improving his relationship with Orochimaru. Thanks to this connection, Sasuke had access to many books, movies, and TV shows that Jiraiya had reviewed.
One film called “The Butterfly Effect” deeply impressed him.
A person sneezing differently from their predestined fate ten years ago could destroy a city ten years later.
But even the butterfly effect has to follow some rules, right?
Sasuke felt that his mentor was stirring up trouble again.
The two newcomers of Team 7 couldn’t understand their reactions.
“Teacher Wang Yan seems nice, why are you all…”
Tenten started to speak, feeling they should respect their mentor more instead of reacting with…
Fear.
Regardless of others’ thoughts, Wang Yan, floating in mid-air, created a chair of inert air and comfortably.
He Sat down.
He raised three fingers: “This written test consists of three parts.”
Everyone listened intently, curious about the basis of Konoha’s claim of absolute fairness and impartiality.
Theoretically, as long as there are essay questions, true fairness is impossible.
“Basic knowledge, practical application, and seriousness.”
Wang Yan’s voice was relaxed, “The basic knowledge section is worth ten points. The correct answers are here, and everyone can refer to them.”
He waved his hand, and four particle fluorescence screens materialized out of nowhere, allowing every spectator and candidate to see the contents.
Questions, options, and correct answers were all clearly displayed! All candidates could see their scores in this section.
“And the final essay question, no matter what you wrote, the grading criteria is just one.”
Wang Yan said this as he poured himself a glass of ice-cold cola, sipping it contentedly.
This action made the candidates’ teeth itch with frustration.
Damn it, he’s not the one waiting for the grades, so he’s not worried at all, huh?
Compared to the mere ten points of the first part, this essay question was worth 30 points!
Wang Yan finished his cola, waving his hand to turn the plastic bottle into particle quarks that dispersed into the ether.
He whispered four words: “Word count.”
“What?”
Reading the confusion in thousands of minds simultaneously, Wang Yan’s tone was mild: “We mainly used this question to gauge everyone’s seriousness about the Chunin Exam. The more words you wrote, the higher the score awarded.”
The candidates were textbook bewildered.
After a moment, someone finally realized what was going on.
Naruto let out a heart-wrenching cry.
He had written only a few words on the last question!
If only he had written more!
Like him, many other candidates felt the same…
But what could they do?
They had been told the essay questions graded seriousness and attention to the exam. The grading criteria were displayed on the fluorescence screens!
?1-10 words, 2 points for effort.?
?11-100 words, 15 points.?
?101-300 words, 25 points.?
?Over 300 words, full thirty points.?
?Didn’t write a single word. How many points? Of course, zero!?
?Didn’t write anything and still expecting points… kid, are you awake??
The candidates ignored the mockery on the screens, bearing the indignity as they quickly calculated their current scores.
Thus, some candidates, feeling their scores were suboptimal, focused their attention, waiting for Wang Yan’s final explanation.
The most controversial 60 multiple-choice questions, where any option could be wrong, and no official standard answer existed!
If Wang Yan’s explanation was poor, this “strongest Chunin Exam in history” could turn into an utter joke.
Wang Yan: “The main god personally steps in to ask for votes. Can you guys give some face? Those who vote every day and become reincarnators, reward points are split fifty-fifty…”
