- Chapter 159 - I Have Shed Blood for the Soul Society
“That’s how everything happened.”
In the ruins, Kurotsuchi Mayuri and his team were pulled out, covered in dirt, far from their usual composed and crazed elegance.
He detailed the events to the captains, who rushed over and harshly condemned Jich? Tsumuya’s actions.
“Thirty-six laboratories were consumed by flames, and billions of experimental data points were completely destroyed.”
Kurotsuchi began counting on his fingers, one by one. “In addition, various experimental materials and research achievements were also lost.”
Looking around at the group, his mouth stretched into a grin. “This isn’t just a loss for the Twelfth Division or the Research and Development Bureau, but a significant loss for all of the Seireitei and the entire Soul Society!”
“If you just want to ask for more research funds, say it directly,” Tokikaze glanced at Mayuri disdainfully, immediately seeing through his true intentions. “Don’t pretend you didn’t have backups.”
“The cost of these buildings combined doesn’t even match the price of one of Ginrei’s scarves!”
“You’re talking nonsense. The building costs may not be high,” Mayuri retorted, “but don’t forget the vast amount of experimental materials and the most sophisticated equipment in the Soul Society stored inside. Those are the real losses!”
“Just say it. How many scarves do you need?”
“At least two… no, two and a half!”
…
Their bickering left the nearby captains in silent disbelief. Ginrei Kuchiki subconsciously touched his silver-white scarf, his lips twitching, thinking to himself: Since when did the symbol of the Kuchiki family become a unit of measurement for value?
Suddenly, he felt an odd sense of shame.
Realizing this pointless conversation would tarnish the reputation and honor of the Kuchiki family, Ginrei cleared his throat and interjected, “The Kuchiki family will cover the losses of the Research and Development Bureau.”
His old voice ended the debate. Preserving the Kuchiki family’s symbol was more important than a bit of money.
Hearing this, both Kurotsuchi and Tokikaze exchanged knowing glances, their similar grins appearing simultaneously.
The world where only the Kuchiki family suffered had been born.
Of course, this kind of financial loss didn’t bother Ginrei Kuchiki much.
“What about Jich? Tsumuya?” Ky?raku Shunsui asked seriously as he approached the two of them. “Do either of you have a good solution?”
“After all, you’re the only ones who’ve faced him head-on and survived.”
Dusting off his clothes, Kurotsuchi wore his familiar creepy smile as he asked in his odd voice, “Ky?raku-taich?, do you have any other intel on Jich? Tsumuya?”
“Don’t use the usual Central 46 rhetoric. The Royal Guard would never intervene for just one Shinigami.”
“Besides, Jich? Tsumuya’s goal isn’t to destroy the Soul Society.”
Ky?raku’s expression remained calm as he recounted the events from a third-person perspective.
A hundred years ago, Jich? Tsumuya had a similar goal or idea.
“His plan was to modify the souls of all the residents of Rukongai, giving them the ability to annihilate Hollows and invade Hueco Mundo.”
That was the proposal Jich? Tsumuya made to Central 46 at the time.
Central 46 scoffed at the idea, dismissing it as sheer fantasy, believing it could not be realized.
However, when Jich? successfully modified the souls of criminals into battle dolls that could fight Hollows, Central 46 still didn’t change their stance.
But what happened next shattered their assumptions.
The battle dolls quickly dispatched the Hollows and showed absolute loyalty to Jich?.
“Heh, and then Central 46 pinned all the related crimes on him and issued a capture order to the Gotei 13,” Kurotsuchi sneered, tapping his skull. “Given their arrogance and cowardice, it’s exactly the kind of thing those old geezers would do.”
Ky?raku nodded in agreement. “Indeed, that’s exactly what happened. Ukitake and I intercepted Jich? Tsumuya at the White Road Gate when he was preparing to carry out the plan.”
“When we failed to convince him, we prepared to fight after releasing our Zanpakut?s.”
“But at that moment, Jich? surrendered, offering no resistance as we captured him and imprisoned him in Muken.”
“That’s the whole story.”
Ky?raku spread his hands, his expression full of helplessness. “But now, it’s clear we have no appropriate means to handle this dangerous individual.”
“The problem has grown far more complicated than expected.”
Kurotsuchi impatiently scratched his ear, nearly pulling out the hidden blade inside. “From the recent attack, I’ve analyzed his abilities.”
“He can fuse with the surrounding spiritual particles, and based on the area where he operates and the Kido he uses, he’s likely fused with the entire Seireitei.”
“To fully understand the limitations of this, I’ll need more data.”
“But I’ve found a solution. The spiritual particle solidifier used in Experiment 78 can hinder his ability to fuse with spiritual particles.”
“By extension, seki-seki stones could also be effective.”
Tokikaze looked at him with some surprise.
As a scientist, Kurotsuchi’s skills were undeniable. Not only had he quickly analyzed Jich?’s abilities, but he had also proposed a potential solution.
The problem, however, was that the information needed to be expanded.
The suggested solution alone wasn’t enough to restrain or counter Jich?.
They were far too scarce, whether it was the spiritual particle solidifier or seki-seki stones. Filling the Research and Development Bureau might be doable, but covering the entire Seireitei? That was unrealistic.
Furthermore, seki-seki stones would only slow Jich?’s fusion, not wholly preventing it.
So Kurotsuchi’s method was proper but far from foolproof.
“Quite valuable information,” Ky?raku remarked. “It seems Yamamoto-sensei made a good choice in appointing you as the Twelfth Division’s captain.”
Though his tone suggested disrespect, Kurotsuchi wasn’t bothered and responded viciously, “Let me correct you—I simply refuse to be subordinate to a certain someone.”
The captains knew who he was referring to, and their responses varied.
“So, here’s the question,” Tokikaze sighed. “Since we have the intel, what’s the solution?”
“Do we cover the entire Seireitei in seki-seki stones? Or build a spiritual particle solidifier machine?”
Kurotsuchi froze, then sneered. “If Tokikaze-taich? funds it, I’d prefer the first option.”
“Seki-seki stones can completely block spiritual particles, and their quality is excellent…”
Before he could finish, Tokikaze raised a hand, cutting him off. “Stop. Do you realize how absurd that sounds? Even selling the Kanyamadai family wouldn’t provide enough stones.”
“Maybe if we added the Kuchiki family.”
Ginrei Kuchiki, standing nearby, commented calmly, “Though it might be a bit of a stretch, the Kuchiki family could manage it. However, the quantity of seki-seki stones would still be limited.”
At that, the captains looked at Ginrei in a new light.
A financial giant was among them!
Perhaps they hadn’t fully grasped the extent of the Kuchiki family’s wealth before, but Ginrei’s words made it clear how vast the gap between them was.
Kurotsuchi’s plan, being too costly, was eventually dismissed.
Now, all eyes turned to Tokikaze.
…
At the First Division headquarters, Ayasegawa Yumichika panicked when standing before Yamamoto Genry?sai, immediately unleashing his spiritual pressure in a futile attempt to escape Tokikaze’s grip.
But Tokikaze was prepared, and a surge of overwhelming spiritual pressure instantly subdued Yumichika, rendering him powerless. Under the crushing force, Yumichika’s heart felt like it was about to stop, and an unbearable pressure weighed down every inch of his body.
Mouth open, he tried to defend himself, but no words could escape under the immense pressure.
Yamamoto, watching in surprise, was about to ask what was happening when Tokikaze released Yumichika, letting him collapse onto the ground, drenched in sweat.
“Captain Commander, I’ve shed blood for the Soul Society. I’ve contributed to the Seireitei!” Yumichika, struggling to stand, spoke passionately. “Although I often break the rules, it’s always within acceptable limits. I can’t accept this kind of punishment!”
“If necessary, I’ll give you my Zanpakut?, Ruri’iro Kujaku, to keep!”
Yumichika was adamant that while his appearance might be a bit flashy, his sexual orientation wasn’t questionable—yet. Even if it were, he certainly wouldn’t choose someone like Yamamoto. In the worst case, even Ikkaku’s bald head was preferable to the Captain Commander’s.
As for hiding the actual name of his Zanpakut?, Tokikaze had already exposed that secret, so there was no point in pretending any longer.
Resigned to his fate, Yumichika felt like he might as well give up his Zanpakut? altogether.
Yamamoto, still confused, accepted the sword, unsure of what was happening.
“To be safe, Fifth Seat Ayasegawa, you will stay here at the First Division headquarters for the time being. I will personally monitor your movements.”
“Until Jich? Tsumuya is captured again.”
Hearing this, Yumichika stood silently in the back, accepting his fate with a heavy heart.
He could endure anything else as long as he didn’t have to share a bed with the Captain Commander.
Although Yamamoto didn’t fully understand what was happening, he instinctively felt that Tokikaze had something to do with it.
Just as he was about to confront him, Tokikaze presented a proposal.
“I’ve found a way to deal with Jich? Tsumuya.”
The captains’ eyes sharpened as they turned to the tall figure.
Calmly, Tokikaze explained, “From the beginning, Jich? Tsumuya’s goal has not changed. But to achieve that goal, his power alone isn’t enough to succeed quickly.”
“So, when he discovered a certain ‘special existence,’ he shifted his target, hoping to achieve his goal of wiping out the Hollows faster.”
“I’m right, aren’t I, Jich? Tsumuya?”
