Chapter 1: Blossoms of the Hope of Humanity
“Roar!”
In the video, a monstrous creature nearly fifty metres tall, with a fierce appearance, was wreaking havoc in a city.
Skyscrapers, fragile in the presence of this creature, crumbled like tofu. A casual swipe of its claws, and buildings disintegrated.
Countless humans screamed, scrambling to escape.
Soon after, the sound of breaking air echoed as several fighter jets zoomed past, launching missiles at the monster.
Boom! Boom!
Flames soared, and the deafening explosions reverberated. Unfortunately, the creature, with its tough hide, remained unscathed. The firepower that humankind took pride in couldn’t leave a mark on it.
Instead, it further enraged the monster, intensifying its destruction in the city, subjecting it to an unprecedented disaster.
A sense of panic shrouded the entire city.
After a moment, a massive transport plane arrived over the city.
Subsequently, the cargo door opened, revealing a woman standing at the edge of the door, who then leaped into the air.
At this point, the transport plane was at least a thousand metres above the ground. The woman wore only thin clothes, with no safety equipment whatsoever.
Under normal circumstances, even without the monster’s intervention, the woman would have inevitably fallen to her death. However, abnormal phenomena unfolded.
Suddenly, a green light illuminated from the woman, halting her descent. Not only that, she could freely fly in midair, swiftly approaching the monster.
When she neared the creature, the woman raised her slender hand, fingers spread, and then clenched it with force!
Crack!
The monster’s massive head seemed to undergo an invisible force’s compression, instantly exploding.
Dark green blood and shredded flesh scattered everywhere.
Because the monster died too quickly, its peripheral nerves hadn’t reacted yet. The headless corpse took a few more steps forward.
As for the woman, after annihilating the monster’s head, she flew back towards the transport plane without looking back. Elegant and heroic, she was incredibly cool!
Once the woman returned to the transport plane, the monster’s corpse collapsed with a thunderous roar, kicking up a large dust cloud.
The video ended.
After watching the video, Chen Ye put down his phone and rubbed his temples, feeling a headache.
This video wasn’t from a special effects movie; it was a real event that happened yesterday and had become the top trending news with the highest search volume on the internet.
“So, I’ve crossed over to what kind of world?” he wondered.
His gaze wandered around. It was evidently a classroom filled with youthful and inexperienced students. He was wearing the same school uniform as everyone else.
Clearly, after crossing over, Chen Ye became a high school student. Feeling the vitality in his body, Chen Ye was quite satisfied with this new identity.
Before crossing over, he was in his twenties, accomplishing nothing. Because of frequent research work the upper coworkers had given him when he had just entered the industry, he suffered severe physical depletion. Not even thirty yet, his body was extremely weakened.
Being able to regain health and youth, Chen Ye was naturally pleased. At this moment, the discussions of several students nearby caught Chen Ye’s attention.
“Did you guys watch the video from yesterday? Qin Goddess is really amazing!”
“Yes, she can kill a fourth-level monster. No wonder she’s the number one expert in our Xia Country.”
“Our turn to bond with heroic talents is coming up soon. I’m so nervous!”
“Unfortunately, the hero with the codename S2 has a high bonding difficulty. Up to now, only the Qin Goddess has successfully bonded.”
“You still aim for S2? The difficulty of bonding with an S-level hero is low?”
“I don’t ask for much. My goal is an A-level hero talent. If I can successfully bond, I can go to the Academy of Supernatural Abilities. I heard there are many beautiful girls there…”
“A-level is not high enough? Your ambition is big. My goal is a B-level hero talent.”
“Why doesn’t anyone choose a C-level hero talent? The success rate of bonding is almost one hundred percent!”
“Get lost, idiot. C-level heroes don’t have any talent. Only fools would choose them…”
…
Chen Ye, on the side, was bewildered.
Just as he was about to take out his phone to search for relevant information online, suddenly, the teacher arrived. Immediately, all students sat down, and the classroom instantly returned to silence.
Chen Ye could only put away his phone and pretend to be an obedient husky mingling with the pack.
The teacher, a middle-aged woman, although ordinary-looking, exuded an imposing aura akin to a stern martial arts master.
As she entered, all students sat up straight, and the classroom regained its quiet atmosphere.
The teacher’s stern gaze swept across all the students, and she began speaking:
“Students, today is a big day for you. I believe you are all prepared, and you must have set your bonding goals, right? Now, let the teacher see your choices!”
“Those who choose an S-level hero as their bonding goal, please raise your hands.”
Upon hearing this, seven students raised their hands.
The teacher, upon seeing this, frowned slightly.
The class had over eighty students, and choosing an S-level hero talent was less than ten percent…
Whether it was an illusion or not, Chen Ye felt that the teacher on the podium looked at him with a dissatisfied expression.
Chen Ye was utterly confused.
He hadn’t done anything just now!
After those seven students lowered their hands, the teacher continued: “Those who choose an A-level hero as their bonding goal, please raise your hands.”
This time, many more students raised their hands, nearly half of the class, around thirty people.
Seeing this, Chen Ye hurriedly raised his hand as well.
He didn’t understand anything, but he thought that going along with the majority was probably right.
The teacher, seeing that half the class chose A-level heroes as their bonding goals, looked slightly relieved.
“Those who choose a B-level hero as their bonding goal, please raise your hands.”
The remaining students, who hadn’t raised their hands yet, all raised them now.
“Alright.” The teacher said, “Put your hands down!”
As for C-level heroes, the teacher didn’t even ask.
“Seeing your choices, honestly, I’m a bit disappointed!”
The teacher said with a heavy tone, “We are a prestigious high school. If you can enter our school, it means your parents have successfully bonded with heroic talents and are outstanding individuals. The Institute of Science has long researched that the success rate of bonding with heroic talents is much higher for children whose parents have successfully bonded.”
“So, there’s no need for you to be so conservative. Set your goals higher!”
This statement surprised all the students because they remembered that the teacher didn’t say this yesterday…
A student with a slightly bolder spirit couldn’t help but ask, “But, teacher, didn’t you warn us yesterday to be more conservative, not to aim too high, and that successfully bonding with a heroic talent is a victory in itself?”
The teacher remained composed, putting on a serious expression, “The times have changed! I believe you all know about yesterday’s incident, right? A fourth-level monster suddenly appeared, broke through the city’s defensive wall, and caused tens of thousands of casualties! If it weren’t for Ms. Qin’s timely intervention, eliminating that monster, the casualty numbers might have multiplied.”
Hearing this, the students nodded in agreement.
A student who seemed to be a fan of Qin Goddess exclaimed excitedly, “Teacher, Ms. Qin is really amazing. My goal this time is also the S2 hero talent. I hope I can succeed and become someone like Ms. Qin.”
Seeing this, others looked at him with the eyes of someone looking at a fool. The hero with the codename S2 had a bonding success rate of less than 0.0001%, and they wondered where this guy got his confidence.
The teacher on the podium, not wanting to dampen the ambitious student’s spirits, changed the topic, “Students, perhaps you don’t know yet, but the latest research from the Institute of Science indicates that the sudden appearance of the fourth-level monster might be a new temporal wormhole about to be opened…”
“If the news is true, it means there will be more terrifying monsters descending on Earth in the future. By then, relying solely on the existing power won’t be enough to deal with those monsters. The country needs more individuals like Ms. Qin, who can be a decisive force!”
