Daily Life in One Piece - Chapter 46
As the dust slowly settled, the figures of Mosen and Shuzo gradually became clear, with Mosen still gazing skyward in his signature pose.
“Coach Shuzo, you’re too modest. I only won by half a move,” Mosen said humbly.
In truth, it was indeed so. If they were fighting to the death, the battle would have continued much longer before Mosen had a chance, as breaking through Shuzo’s defence wasn’t easy.
“But it’s a satisfying victory,” Mosen thought, keeping his expression composed while inwardly celebrating. He had finally achieved a significant win.
However, reality quickly reminded him not to get too comfortable.
A figure landed beside Shuzo, and amidst hearty laughter, a voice boomed, “Haha, Shuzo, let me test the strength of my ship’s vice-captain. It’s been a while since I’ve stretched my muscles.”
Looking up, it was none other than Garp.
“What??”
Mosen’s face was a picture of confusion.
“Garp, did you stumble into the wrong scene? I was just starting to enjoy my moment of glory, and now you’re here to ruin it. Why can’t I escape the fate of being schooled by a powerhouse? And what’s this about being your vice-captain?”
When the Hero of the Marines speaks, only Sengoku would dare to contradict him, and even then, rarely. This wasn’t a big deal, so no one opposed it.
“Yes, Vice-Admiral Garp,” Shuzo saluted, giving Mosen a look that said, “Good luck,” and swiftly stepped aside.
Mosen met Garp’s enthusiastic gaze and realised there was no escaping this.
They say life is like being screwed—if you can’t resist, you might as well enjoy it.
“Mosen, I really appreciate your training philosophy. Although you use a sword, your physical strength surpasses that of many,” Garp said.
As a representative of pure physical combat in the Marines, Garp felt disappointed that top combat power heavily relied on Devil Fruits, unlike the straightforward physical prowess he and Zephyr valued.
“Vice-Admiral Garp, physical strength is the foundation of all abilities. Only with strong physical capabilities can other skills reach their full potential. This has always been my guiding principle,” Mosen replied.
Garp was okay with Mosen’s distinction between physical strength and physical techniques. Physical techniques in the One Piece world were about developing the body’s limits, essentially a form of physical training.
“Ha ha ha, what an excellent young man. With such a mindset, you’re already outstanding. Show me your strength,” Garp said, increasingly satisfied with Mosen.
“As you wish, Vice-Admiral Garp, but I have a small request,” Mosen said.
“Whatever it is, I’ll agree,” Garp replied.
“Please don’t hit my handsome face during the fight. I still rely on it for making a living,” Mosen said.
Garp was momentarily stunned. This was indeed an odd request.
“Ho ho, interesting lad. Come on, then.”
The battle began.
Mosen didn’t hold back, attacking with all his might. Even in broad daylight, his blade’s gleam was dazzling, striking before the sound could reach.
It was Mosen’s strongest move:
**”Spring Rain of a Small Tower”**
“Impressive speed and attack power. You’re more surprising each time,” Garp said, raising his left fist to block without using Armament Haki.
Mosen’s powerful move only left a faint white mark on Garp’s fist without drawing any blood.
The older man’s physical strength was truly formidable.
“Take my Fist of Love!”
Garp’s punch followed, too quick for Mosen to dodge despite his Observation Haki.
Boom… A visible bump appeared on Mosen’s forehead.
Mosen’s face darkened as he shouted at Garp, “Old man, didn’t we agree no face shots?”
“Sorry, couldn’t help it. Ha ha ha,” Garp laughed, apologising insincerely.
“Damn it, could you at least pretend to be sincere?” Mosen grumbled, stabbing his sword straight at Garp.
Garp blocked with his fist again, deflecting the blade and sending Mosen retreating. The impact left Mosen’s hand trembling, and his grip on the sword weakened.
Another straight punch followed, sending Mosen flying as if hit by a truck.
Mid-air, Mosen adjusted his body, landing in a half-kneeling position, using his sword as a staff to regain balance.
He was being schooled by another powerhouse again.
Slowly standing up, Mosen switched to holding the sword with his left hand, shaking off the numbness from his right arm.
He eyed Garp seriously. The older man’s strength was absurd.
Despite his age, Garp’s physical decline wasn’t as severe as it would be ten years later during the Summit War, making him even stronger now.
At the peak of one’s power, every little improvement took immense effort. Mosen would have to surpass countless others like Shuzo to reach Garp’s level.
His earlier small victory over Shuzo now felt insignificant.
Once his body recovered, Mosen attacked again.
In a sparring match, there’s no need to hold back. Better to endure a beating now than to face real danger later.
He clashed with Garp once more.
“Ha ha ha, lad, now I understand how you got so strong. You fight even crazier than Zephyr did in his youth,” Garp laughed, pushing Mosen back again.
Mosen looked odd. His face was unscathed, but two gourd-shaped bumps on his head refused to subside, giving him a comical appearance.
Is that you, Gourd Baby?
Staring at Garp, Mosen swore inwardly, “Just wait, Garp. I might not beat you now, but I’ll take it out on your grandson someday. I’ll make him pay for every punch you land on me.”
Little did Luffy know that thanks to his grandfather, he’d soon face some very challenging times…
