Daily Life in One Piece - Chapter 47
From the viewing stands, the sound of a Den Den Mushi suddenly emanated from Sengoku’s pocket. His face changed as he realised the source of his unease. He walked off the field to a secluded spot without speaking to the others before answering the call.
On the other end, a soldier’s voice reported.
“Admiral Sengoku, the landing party on the island has discovered a deceased officer of the Donquixote Family, codename Corazon.”
Sengoku’s eyes widened, his expression becoming dazed and disbelieving as he listened to the report, his mind going blank.
The soldier continued, “We have transmitted the detailed photos to you. Please check them.”
Sengoku returned to his admiral’s office in a daze. His expression was back to normal, though still quite pale. As a Marine admiral, he couldn’t afford to show any sign of weakness in public—not even a hint.
—
Garp, satisfied after stretching his muscles, noticed Sengoku leaving with a grim expression. He exchanged a few words with Zephyr and Mosen before following after Sengoku.
Thus, the spectator event came to an abrupt end.
Sengoku looked at the photos faxed over in the admiral’s office, tears streaming down his face.
In the photos, young Rosinante lies peacefully in the snow, his black feather coat, red bloodstains, and white snowflakes creating a tragic and beautiful scene. His face under the small red hood is serene and happy, perhaps relieved that the boy has escaped.
But unfortunately, he would not be there to watch him grow.
“Rosinante, why were you there? What happened?” Sengoku murmured, his tears soaking the photos. He recalled his foster son’s kind and resilient nature, watching him go undercover in the Donquixote Family to stop his brother from doing evil, watching him grow step by step.
Never did he imagine their last meeting would be like this—so cold and sorrowful.
“Was it for that boy with Amber Lead Syndrome…? No matter what, this is connected to the Donquixote Family. I will imprison them in Impel Down one day.”
With that, Sengoku picked up the Den Den Mushi and called Zephyr. “Zephyr, send Mosen to me… Yes, for the personnel distribution, coordinate with the office adjutant.”
After hanging up, Sengoku wiped his tears, deep in thought.
—
“What? Admiral Sengoku wants to see me? Is there a mission?” Mosen looked surprised, feeling an ominous sense of foreboding.
“Mosen, go see him immediately. Sengoku rarely loses his composure. Something big must have happened,” Zephyr said solemnly.
Mosen quickly saluted, “Understood, Teacher Zephyr!”
Without changing his clothes, he left the recruits’ camp. After a moment, he turned back, “Uh, how do I get to Admiral Sengoku’s office?”
“…” Zephyr sighed and assigned a soldier to guide Mosen.
—
Knock, knock, knock…
“Come in,” Sengoku called.
“Admiral Sengoku, Mosen is here.”
“Good. You may go.”
Mosen walked up to Sengoku and saluted.
It was his first time facing Sengoku up close, noticing his fluffy hair, frog-like glasses, and the braid on his chin, none of which could hide his grim expression. The eyes behind his glasses were full of sorrow and depth.
Sengoku stood up and placed a file on the desk, motioning for Mosen to read it.
“Lieutenant Commander Rosinante, an undercover agent in the Donquixote Family, died on Minion Island in the North Blue. Mosen, your graduation trial is to investigate this incident thoroughly,” Sengoku explained. “Given that you’re an unknown face, have enough strength, and decent experience, this mission is yours. Additionally, Rosinante was my foster son. I hope you can uncover the cause of his death. This is a personal request from a father. I’m counting on you.”
Sengoku bowed, but Mosen quickly stepped aside to avoid it.
He realised this was the year the incident involving Rosinante and Law took place. Mosen had liked Rosinante’s character from the anime but didn’t expect the events to occur so early.
Although he knew what had happened roughly, there was a better time to reveal it to Sengoku than before explaining how he knew. It seemed he had to visit North Blue for a thorough investigation.
There was no internet or GPS for real-time tracking of the seas. Sea charts, fresh water, and other preparations for the journey were essential. Pirates who recklessly set sail without such preparations rarely had Luffy’s luck and often met their end at sea dreams unfulfilled.
This mission required Mosen to investigate undercover, meaning he had to find his way there.
At the Marine port, Mosen hitched a ride on a ship heading to Sabaody Archipelago, intending to find a merchant ship bound for the North Blue.
As the last stop on the Grand Line before the New World, Sabaody was a hub of activity and chaos. It was a place where various races could be encountered, all kinds of strange beings and animals could be seen, and crimes frequently occurred.
The most fascinating aspects for Mosen were the red trees and the colourful bubbles creating the local climate. Seeing them in person made him realise the world was full of wonders.
Upon arriving, Mosen couldn’t help but think of countless adjectives, but none seemed to do the place justice. The beauty and uniqueness of the bubbles left him speechless.
Finally, he refined all his thoughts into a single phrase.
“Wow, these bubbles are amazing!”
Hopping onto the bubbles, he bounced toward Area 44, where ordinary merchant ships docked, to find one heading to the North Blue.
“I’ll have to spend some time here after the mission,” Mosen decided. Finding such an interesting place meant he had to enjoy it for a few days.
“By the way, I should get a camera Den Den Mushi. Not having photos of myself in all these beautiful places would be a real shame!”
Without the constant threat of war, powerful enemies, or monsters, this world was a paradise for travel and adventure.
“The seven routes of the Grand Line… Luffy’s route alone was so exciting. If I could explore all seven… Just thinking about it makes me drool.”
Mosen shook his head, pushing aside these unrealistic thoughts for now. The mission was the priority, and he could explore later.
Picking up his pace, Mosen leapt across several tree-covered areas, heading straight for his destination.
