Daily Life in One Piece - Chapter 48
Mosen arrived at the dock around Red Tree No. 44. With no one managing the place, many ships were haphazardly moored near the tree roots.
Mosen felt a headache coming on.
“I can’t just stupidly ask every ship one by one, can I?” he muttered. “Better find a bar to gather some information. It’s better than waiting around doing nothing.”
“Speaking of which, Shakky’s Rip-off Bar is known for information. I just can’t remember which tree it’s under, only that it’s in the lawless area.”
Talking to himself, Mosen failed to notice the few people around him who were eyeing him with interest.
“Alright, I’ll check around here first.”
Mosen asked around this area if there was any merchant ship heading to North Blue. If that didn’t work out, he could always go to Shakky’s place despite its reputation for overcharging.
“Hmm? Someone’s following me…”
Walking down the street, Mosen felt a faint malicious gaze from behind. He stopped in front of a gift shop, using the glass reflection to see a black, monkey-like man who had stopped and was pretending to look at other items.
“Could you be any more amateurish? If you’re going to pretend to look at something, at least choose something that suits you. Looking at women’s jewelry—do you really think you’ll find a girlfriend?” Mosen muttered.
It seemed he had been targeted. Ah, the curse of having such uncontainable good looks, always attracting attention wherever he went.
Although Mosen stood at 1.9 meters tall, the Sube Sube no Mi had smoothed out all his muscles and facial features, making him appear his actual age. Dressed casually, with a fine katana, “Kite,” at his waist, he cut an impressive figure. His extraordinary looks made him an obvious target for unscrupulous types.
After searching for a while, he found nothing but gift shops, souvenir stores, and an empty restaurant—not the time for dining.
“Looks like I’ll have to pay Shakky’s Rip-off Bar a visit,” Mosen muttered, giving up his search. “Indeed, professionalism creates value. The ancients didn’t lie.”
Ancient wisdom: I never said that.
—
In the lawless area beneath Red Tree No. 21, a group of unsavoury characters, armed and dangerous, gathered in a dimly lit house. The leader, a scar-faced man, was listening to a report over a Den Den Mushi.
The Den Den Mushi had a sneaky, monkey-like face, and the voice on the other end said, “I’m following him, boss. This kid is worth a lot. That face—absolutely stunning. Even the best beauties would be jealous. And that sword at his waist looks valuable too.”
“I’ve confirmed he’s alone, around 16 or 17 years old.”
“Looks like he’s heading into the lawless area. This kid is walking into his own grave.”
The sneaky voice continued its report, and the men in the room grew excited. Catching such a prize would ensure they lived comfortably for at least half a year.
The scar-faced man silenced the room with a wave of his hand and said, “Keep an eye on him. Don’t let anyone else get to him first, especially not Raki’s crew.”
“Don’t worry, boss. I’m the only one tailing him… Wait, he’s heading towards Red Tree No. 19.”
“Keep tracking him. We’ll set up an ambush. Time to feast, boys!” the scar-faced man declared. “Grab your weapons. Let’s move out.”
Mosen moved quickly despite Sengoku’s lack of a strict deadline. This was his first mission and part of his graduation trial, so he intended to take it seriously.
He didn’t linger too long on the beautiful and spectacular scenery, knowing he would have plenty of time to explore later.
Besides,
There were plenty of ‘guests’ waiting ahead, and it wouldn’t be polite to keep them waiting, would it?
Mosen looked calmly at the group of about ten fierce men surrounding him. Their rough appearances made it clear they were up to no good.
Too ugly, Mosen thought disdainfully.
“Kid, if you surrender now, you’ll suffer less later,” the monkey-like man said smugly, standing beside the scar-faced leader.
“That’s right, kid. If you don’t resist, we won’t have to use force. You won’t suffer, and we can get a good price for you,” the scar-faced man added.
He wanted to leave a few scars on Mosen’s face, but he knew a flawless prize fetched a higher price. Reluctantly, he decided money was more important.
It was clear to Mosen that these men were human traffickers, despicable criminals selling people into slavery. Such scum was among the most hated in his past life.
“How about this—I send all of you to hell instead?” Mosen’s eyes narrowed.
The scar-faced man was enraged. A kid daring to speak so arrogantly needed to be taught a lesson.
“You don’t know your place, kid. Grab him! Don’t kill him, and don’t mar that face.”
Mosen sighed. “It’s been a year since I last killed. Your luck is really bad.”
A crescent-shaped slash of light flew through the air, creating a dreamlike yet deadly scene among the bubbles and trees. In an instant, it swept through the entire area.
All twelve men, except the scar-faced leader, were dead in a single strike.
The scar-faced man’s tendons were severed, and his weapon fell to the ground. He collapsed, terrified.
“You’re a demon, not human… Don’t kill me… Don’t kill me…”
He was almost hysterical with fear. They had hunted pirates worth 50 million before but hadn’t even seen this boy’s moves, and they were already dead.
Mosen sheathed his sword, looking down at the scar-faced man. “Do you know where Shakky’s Rip-off Bar is?”
“Yes, yes, I can show you the way,” the scar-faced man nodded frantically.
Mosen chuckled, “Tell me the tree number and take me to your treasure. I might consider sparing you.”
Seeing Mosen’s smile, the scar-faced man hesitated but quickly agreed, leading Mosen to collect their loot.
As they gathered the visible treasures, the scar-faced man tried to hide his resentment, asking nervously, “Can you let me go now?”
“Sorry, no.” Mosen plunged his sword into the man’s heart, apologetic in tone.
The man’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“You… You broke your promise…”
“Right. No reward for you.”
Mosen pulled out his sword, and the man collapsed, dead.
Ignoring the body, Mosen gathered the money and valuables, heading straight for Red Tree No. 13.
