Ultra Instinct! Silver Hair! (Part 1)
…
Ren couldn’t help but feel a little speechless.
What’s up with your obsession with the word “guide”?
I remember the manual I trained with was called The Ultra Instinct Training Guide.
Oh well, not that it matters.
Merus handed the book over to Jiren and explained, “Jiren, carry on with your usual routine, but remember, you’re officially my trainee Supreme Kai now. Take some time to study the content of this book.”
“Understood, Lord Merus,” Jiren immediately bowed and then stood up straight. He turned his gaze toward Ren, his expression showing both respect and a burning desire for battle.
Ren was slightly taken aback.
What’s going on here?
Merus also seemed confused, unsure of what Jiren was planning.
“Ren, I’ve heard that you became a candidate for an Angel through training, right?” Jiren asked.
“Not quite yet,” Ren nodded slightly.
“May I challenge you?” Jiren took a deep breath, his tone serious. “Forgive me, but it’s been a long time since I’ve had a worthy opponent.”
“Funny, it’s been a while for me too,” Ren didn’t refuse.
In fact, Ren was also eager to test his own strength.
After all, his mastery of Angelic energy had now reached a purity level of 30.
Meeting Jiren was the perfect opportunity for a friendly spar.
Merus was, of course, excited to see Jiren’s true power.
Although his staff could give him a rough analysis of Jiren’s abilities, there was no better measure than direct combat.
“If you two are really going to spar… could you take the fight into space?” Merus suggested kindly. “Fighting here might damage the planet. Jiren, you’re able to survive in space, right?”
“I can,” Jiren nodded.
“Great, let’s move to space then.” Merus tapped the ground with his staff.
Snap!
A burst of starlight-like energy surrounded Merus.
Whoosh!
In the blink of an eye, Merus shot into the sky, vanishing into space in an instant.
His speed was so fast that Jiren couldn’t help but be slightly surprised.
Merus was clearly showing off his real strength in front of Jiren.
Did you really think Angels were weak?
When it comes to flight speed, we’re on a whole different level!
“After you,” Ren gestured to Jiren. “You go first.”
Jiren shot a serious glance at Ren before quickly covering himself in a fiery red aura.
Whoosh!
Jiren soared into the sky, breaking through the atmosphere, leaving a blazing trail of light behind.
His expression grew focused as he sped toward Merus.
I’ve heard he’s just an apprentice Angel.
There’s no way I can’t catch up to a trainee!
Jiren accelerated, pushing his speed to the limit.
But the faster he flew, the more he realized Merus had already disappeared from sight.
He was completely outpaced.
For the first time, Jiren felt the true disparity. Even a trainee Angel’s speed was far beyond his reach.
I thought my speed was already incredible.
Just as Jiren thought that, he glanced down and saw another bright, star-like light racing toward him from below.
Jiren’s eyes widened.
It’s Ren!
I won’t lose in terms of speed!
If I lose in speed, I’ll already be at a disadvantage before the fight even starts.
Jiren pushed himself harder, pushing his speed to the max.
But Ren was even faster.
Snap!
As Jiren looked back, he noticed something shocking—Ren’s hair had suddenly turned silver.
Whoosh!
In a flash, Ren, now enveloped in a brilliant silver aura, zoomed past Jiren with incredible speed.
The force of Ren’s passing sent Jiren spinning in the air, flipping over twice.
Jiren quickly unleashed his energy, barely managing to stabilize himself mid-flight.
Snap!
Ren stopped in the distance, smiling as he faced Jiren. “Let’s have our little spar right here.”
Jiren’s expression shifted multiple times, his face filled with caution.
Whoosh!
Just then, Merus appeared, speeding toward them.
Merus: “…”
I overshot!
Why did you two stop here?
However, the moment Merus saw Ren’s transformation, his expression turned to one of awe.
“Ren… your hair… it’s silver!” Merus exclaimed as he examined Ren closely.
Snap!
Ren calmly summoned a small mirror, gazing at his reflection with a hint of self-satisfaction. “Seems a bit more stylish than black hair.”
“You… you look more and more like a true Angel,” Merus said, deeply surprised.
Merus hadn’t expected that after just six months apart, Ren had grown to this level.
His hair had even turned silver!
“This must be the true Ultra Instinct,” Merus evaluated, his voice full of joy. “Congratulations, Ren. You’ve successfully mastered Ultra Instinct! That silver hair is the ultimate proof.”
“You flatter me,” Ren replied with a calm nod.
“You two go ahead with your sparring. I’ll manage any stray energy to make sure it doesn’t damage the universe,” Merus said, gripping his staff and preparing to protect the nearby space.
“No need to worry about that, Merus,” Ren smiled. “It’s not like this is going to be some massive battle.”
“That’s true… After all, the gap between a human and an Angel is still significant. Even if you’re not yet a full Angel, just mastering Ultra Instinct puts you far beyond what a human can reach,” Merus agreed, nodding thoughtfully.
Jiren: “…”
Are you two really underestimating me this much?
This is too much!
“I’m the strongest human in Universe 11!” Jiren’s expression was incredibly serious, with no hint of underestimating his opponent. “Ren, I will give this my all. Please take this battle seriously!”
“Alright, I’ll take it seriously then,” Ren agreed with a nod.
“Then… let the battle begin!” Merus announced with a wave of his staff.
At the sound of Merus’ declaration, Jiren wasted no time. He shot forward like a fiery red comet, his body flickering as he changed directions, getting closer and closer to Ren.
In a flash, Jiren was right in front of Ren, delivering a powerful palm strike.
But Ren was faster.
Whoosh!
In the blink of an eye, Ren appeared behind Jiren.
Jiren’s strike hit nothing but empty space. His eyes widened in shock as he frantically searched for Ren’s position.
Thud!
Ren lightly struck the back of Jiren’s neck.
Jiren’s consciousness went blank.
Before he realized what had happened, Jiren’s body went limp, floating in space as he passed out.
“No way… he passed out already?” Ren was greatly disappointed.
Merus: “…”
Merus hadn’t expected the fight to end this quickly either.
I thought this was going to be an exciting battle.
And yet, Jiren was knocked out instantly?
“You’ve got to be kidding me… that was too easy!” Ren sighed in disappointment. He snapped his fingers near Jiren’s ear.
Jiren immediately regained consciousness, rubbing the back of his neck and shaking his head, his expression darkening.
Is the gap between us really this huge?

…
“Come on, let’s go again. The last round wasn’t fun. I didn’t expect you to faint so quickly,” Ren waved for Jiren to continue.
Jiren: “…”
Merus silently wiped the sweat from his brow.
“I was careless before. This time, I won’t pass out so easily!” Jiren declared, though he felt something was off with his words.
Wait, why does it sound like I’m admitting defeat already?
Shouldn’t I be saying: “I won’t lose again this time?”
No, no, I should be saying: “This time, I’ll defeat you!”
Jiren’s mind raced with thoughts, his expression growing more serious, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead.
Whoosh!
Once again, Jiren charged toward Ren.
As Jiren approached, Ren simply sidestepped his punch and countered by driving his knee into Jiren’s abdomen.
Gasp…
Jiren instantly spat out a mouthful of bile, clutching his stomach as his face contorted in pain. His forehead broke out in cold sweat, and his eyes became bloodshot.
“Ah… ah… ah…”
Jiren let out painful gasps, his body writhing in agony.
Despite the excruciating pain, Jiren mustered his strength and swung his hand toward Ren in a desperate strike.
But Ren easily tilted his head, dodging the attack.
Wham!
Ren extended his leg and kicked Jiren square in the jaw.
Crack…
A sharp sound echoed from Jiren’s jaw.
His body shuddered violently, and he passed out once more.
“Seriously? Out cold again?” Ren shook his head in disappointment. “I thought he’d be stronger than this… but he keeps fainting so easily.”
Merus couldn’t help but laugh awkwardly as he approached Ren and explained, “It’s not that he’s weak—you’re just way too strong… After all, you’ve mastered true Ultra Instinct. No ordinary human could possibly be your match!”
“Ah, I see… I might have accidentally become the strongest in the universe. It’s kind of embarrassing,” Ren sighed deeply.
Merus was speechless.
How am I even supposed to respond to that?
Are you showing off to me?
Whoosh!
Ren casually flew over to Jiren and released some Angelic energy to heal him.
Soon, Jiren slowly regained consciousness. As he awoke, the first thing he saw was Ren smiling at him, which startled him. He quickly flew back, creating distance between them.
It’s worth noting that Ren had now fully mastered true Ultra Instinct. His current Angelic energy had reached a purity level of 30.
This made his power far surpass the silver-haired form that Goku achieved during the Tournament of Power. In fact, Ren’s current power was comparable to Goku during the Moro arc, but with greater stability and endurance.
After all, Ren had been refining Angelic energy, while Goku converted his energy into divine power through Ultra Instinct. In terms of raw strength, Angelic energy far surpassed divine power.
“You’re fainting too easily. Let’s go again,” Ren beckoned to Jiren.
Jiren remained silent.
He suddenly felt that he wasn’t even on the same playing field as Ren. The gap between them was massive.
Why continue? To keep getting beaten?
“Maybe… we should leave it at that for now,” Merus suggested, trying to mediate.
“I’ve got an idea. How about I blindfold myself, and we go again?” Ren said, pulling out a black cloth and tying it around his eyes.
“Come on, Jiren. I’ll fight with my eyes closed this time. Don’t disappoint me,” Ren said, waving Jiren over.
Jiren: “…”
This is just bullying!
He’s going to fight me with his eyes closed?
Just as Jiren was about to accept, he noticed Merus frantically signaling to him.
The meaning in Merus’ eyes was crystal clear: Don’t do it—you won’t win.
Jiren, however, was stubborn.
I’ve been training for so many years. There’s no way I can lose to someone who’s only been training for a year or two!
And he’s blindfolded!
I refuse to accept this!
“This is your decision! I won’t hold back!” Jiren said, his tone heavy with determination.
“Come on!” Ren nodded.
Merus, standing off to the side, was speechless.
Jiren, why are you doing this to yourself?
He’s mastered true Ultra Instinct. There’s no way a human could match him.
However, Merus couldn’t help but feel a bit proud. Despite seeing the enormous gap between them, Jiren was still powerful in his own right.
In fact, Merus believed Jiren’s strength surpassed that of Broly.
Should I consider making him the next God of Destruction?
But then… what about Buu?
Should I seal him away again?
At least Jiren acts like a normal person. Buu, on the other hand, never listens…
As these thoughts raced through Merus’ mind, Jiren suddenly launched himself towards Ren.
In the blink of an eye, Jiren appeared behind Ren.
You’re blindfolded—I don’t believe you can dodge this!
Jiren threw a powerful punch aimed at Ren’s back.
Ren, with a simple side-step, effortlessly dodged the attack.
“What? He dodged it? How is that possible?” Jiren was stunned.
“Too slow. Your attacks are way too slow,” Ren said, shaking his head.
“What? You’re calling my attacks slow?” Jiren gritted his teeth, increasing his speed to the maximum and launching a barrage of punches and kicks at Ren.
But Ren, still blindfolded, dodged every single attack with ease.
Indeed, true Ultra Instinct felt much more natural to use than just Ultra Instinct Sign.
What a wonderful ability.
I wonder who invented Ultra Instinct in the first place?
Oh right, Angels are born with the ability…
After about a minute, Jiren was panting heavily, exhausted, without having even touched Ren.
Thud!
Ren calmly kicked Jiren in the side, striking him in the kidney.
“Owww!”
Jiren let out a pained scream, feeling as if his whole body was falling apart.
Why does it hurt so much when he hits?
Jiren found it difficult to straighten his back, as if he had a pulled muscle in his waist.
Whoosh!
Merus quickly flew over and spoke to Ren, “Let’s just stop here.”
He then signaled to Jiren, urging him to admit defeat.
“I… I surrender,” Jiren gritted his teeth, managing to force the words out through the pain.
“One more hit. Let’s see if you can take it,” Ren said suddenly.
Jiren’s face paled.
Whoosh!
In an instant, Ren vanished from sight.
Jiren’s eyes widened in alarm, scanning the area in all directions, trying to locate Ren.
He then felt a presence behind him. Slowly, Jiren turned his head and saw Ren smiling at him.
“This… is bad,” Jiren muttered.
Thud!
Ren lightly tapped the back of Jiren’s neck again.
Jiren’s body went limp, and he passed out once more, floating in space.
Merus didn’t know what to say.
You knocked him out again?
“He really can’t take much,” Ren shook his head. “I was hoping for a more serious fight.”
“Stop joking around. You’ve mastered true Ultra Instinct. No matter how strong Jiren is, there’s no way he could be your match,” Merus responded, stepping forward to heal Jiren with his staff.
Jiren woke up again, looking dazed and bewildered, his spirit nearly crushed.
At that moment, Jiren regretted challenging Ren.
“You shouldn’t have challenged him. He’s quite vengeful,” Merus whispered to Jiren.
Jiren’s face twitched slightly as he quickly bowed.
“Go and train hard. I’ll come check on you in a while,” Merus said, patting Jiren on the shoulder.
“Yes!” Jiren nodded.
Just as Jiren was about to leave, Ren spoke up.
“Wait a moment,” Ren called after him.
