Thirty Years of Ups and Downs (Part 1)
…
Jiren paused for a moment, his eyes showing a hint of fear. The gap between him and Ren was just too vast.
“Go back and train hard,” Ren said with a smile. “Losing to me shouldn’t weigh on you too much. After all, I’ll eventually become a powerful Angel—a true god. For you, that will always be an unreachable ceiling.”
Jiren suddenly felt a bit crushed.
What he said… It sounded like he was trying to comfort me, but why does it feel so insulting?
“In 30 years, you and the Kaioshin I’m training can have a proper match,” Ren said, lifting his right hand slightly. A sphere of angelic energy formed in his palm.
Poof!
Within the angelic energy, a screen appeared, showing an image of Goku devouring a large piece of beef.
Yes, Goku had caught a wild cow, grilled it over a fire, and was happily eating it. Beside him, an elderly Grandpa Gohan lovingly stroked his white beard, watching Goku eat with a warm, joyful smile.
Jiren: “???”
“Wait… are you training a Kaioshin too?” Jiren suddenly understood.
At the same time, Jiren felt another wave of discouragement.
You didn’t choose me to be your Kaioshin?
Does that mean this kid is really that strong?
“Yes, he’s the Kaioshin I’ll be training,” Ren said, pointing to the image of Goku.
“Is he… one of your people?” Jiren quickly noticed Goku’s tail and then glanced at Ren’s tail.
“Yes, his name is Son Goku,” Ren nodded.
“Is… is he strong?” Jiren asked nervously.
After all, he was only seeing Goku in the image, unable to sense his true strength. But Jiren couldn’t help but be impressed by the way Goku devoured the cow—it was something else.
This guy must be strong, right?
Merus stood silently to the side, unsure of what to say.
Stop scaring my Kaioshin!
“If we measured strength with a power level, and yours was one billion, what do you think his would be?” Ren asked.
“Ten billion?” Jiren stammered, his face turning pale.
Ren shook his head slowly.
“One hundred billion?” Jiren’s expression grew more and more tense.
Ren shook his head again.
“One trillion!” Cold sweat poured down Jiren’s face, and he began to reconsider becoming a Kaioshin. That’s just too much power.
How strong do I need to be to even catch up to that?
Ren continued to shake his head.
Jiren: “…”
“I give up… I think I should stick to my original path. I don’t want to be a Kaioshin anymore,” Jiren said, his knees feeling weak. He barely kept himself from collapsing, gritting his teeth as he stood upright.
Merus: “…”
Merus was shocked. Ren really did mess with Jiren’s mind.
“Let me tell you his power level first. Then you can decide whether you want to be a Kaioshin or not,” Ren said with a grin.
Jiren grew even more anxious, dreading the number that might come next.
Trillions, then quadrillions, right?
Could it be… one quadrillion?
That would be terrifying.
Jiren stared intently at Ren, caught between wanting to hear the number and fearing it.
“I’m going to reveal Goku’s power level now,” Ren said with a pause, slowly beginning to speak. “Your power level is one billion. He is below one.”
Jiren froze, his face blank with confusion.
“Yeah, it’s more like 0.0001,” Merus quickly added, afraid that he might lose his Kaioshin candidate.
I worked hard to find someone like you!
Where else can I find such a powerful Kaioshin?
Jiren: “???”
What?
How can it be 0.0001?
I don’t even know how to respond to that!
“Merus is right. The gap between you two is enormous—at least a quadrillion times or more,” Ren nodded in agreement.
How big is the gap between Jiren and Goku right now?
It’s not just a quadrillion—it’s much more than that. Even years from now, Jiren will still be one of the strongest humans in the universe.
If we were to compare power levels, what would Jiren’s be?
Golden Frieza has a power level of 100 sextillion.
Jiren could easily defeat Golden Frieza.
The number is so large that Ren didn’t even want to calculate it.
Jiren remained silent.
When you suddenly brought up this person, I thought he was powerful.
But now you’re telling me the gap is that huge?
Could I accidentally kill him with just a sneeze?
“Thirty years from now, things might be different. Don’t underestimate the young,” Ren said as he floated in the air, gently patting Jiren’s shoulder.
Jiren remained silent.
After about five or six seconds, he asked, “Are you saying… he’ll become my rival?”
“That’s the plan—30 years from now, you two can have a proper match,” Ren said with a smile.
“Thirty years? I see. I don’t believe someone with that kind of gap could ever catch up to me,” Jiren said, his expression becoming more serious, even a bit scornful.
“Good luck!” Ren patted Jiren’s shoulder again.
Jiren said no more.
Merus stood silently beside them, unsure what to believe.
Could Goku really close such a massive gap in just 30 years?
Is that possible? I don’t think so!
Merus didn’t believe it.
After all, Merus had observed Goku and felt that his potential was fairly average.
Compared to Ren and Broly, Goku’s talent couldn’t even be considered in the same league.
Could a kid with such mediocre talent really surpass Jiren in the future?
Merus shook his head slightly.
But then he noticed how confident Ren seemed and couldn’t help but wonder.
Could it really be true?
Could Ren really train a kid with average talent to surpass Jiren?
Merus pondered this deeply.
“With Ren being so strong… and you being a real Angel, Merus…” Jiren suddenly thought aloud, looking over at Merus.
“Yeah, Merus is much stronger than I am,” Ren admitted.
Even though Ren had reached the silver-haired state, that didn’t mean he was stronger than Merus.
If they actually fought…
It would be hard to say who’d win…
As for Merus’s “disappearance” during the Moro arc in the original story, Ren suspected it was all to give Goku the chance to fully master true Ultra Instinct.
And it was because of Merus’s disappearance that Goku finally achieved true Ultra Instinct and could freely transform into his silver-haired form.
Later, Merus came back, didn’t he?
The Grand Priest claimed he had become a regular person.
But was he really just a regular person?
Maybe he was still an Angel, just keeping it a secret.
Ren always felt that even as a trainee Angel, Merus was far stronger than people thought.
There’s no way Merus couldn’t have beaten Moro.
In Ren’s eyes, the absorbed Moro was only slightly stronger than Jiren without using special powers—not by much.
And judging by Merus’s earlier display of speed, it was clear that his power far surpassed Jiren’s.
After all, if Ren could easily defeat Jiren with only 30% pure Angelic energy, Merus was bound to be much stronger.
“Well then, Ren, Merus, I’ll take my leave for now. I’ll study this book thoroughly,” Jiren said, holding up the book and bowing respectfully to them.
This time, Jiren bowed out of genuine respect.
…
Thirty Years of Ups and Downs (Part 2)
…
At the beginning, Jiren hadn’t thought much of the two.
But after fighting Ren, he realized just how vast the gap between them was.
“I’ll come to check on your progress soon,” Merus said with a nod.
Jiren said no more, transforming into a beam of light and flying quickly back to Pride Planet, soon disappearing from sight.
“The Kaioshin matter is finally settled,” Merus sighed in relief. “That’s one weight off my shoulders.”
“Should we find another Kaioshin to study under for a while?” Ren suggested.
“You’re right,” Merus agreed, thinking it was a good idea.
Although Merus had some understanding of the duties of a Kaioshin, he hadn’t fully grasped everything. Learning from an experienced Kaioshin would be beneficial.
“Should we go to the Kaioshin of Universe 7 for lessons?” Ren asked.
Merus: “…”
“Let’s find someone else…” Merus said, wiping away sweat.
“Alright, you choose. Who should we go to?” Ren asked.
“We’re in Universe 11, close to Universe 10,” Merus analyzed. “I heard that the Supreme Kai of Universe 10 is retiring and grooming his successor, Zamasu—the one we saw during the tournament. Why don’t we go to Universe 10 and learn from the Supreme Kai there?”
“Alright then, let’s head to Universe 10,” Ren agreed.
“Let’s depart,” Merus said, preparing to set off immediately.
“Wait a moment. Aren’t you forgetting something important?” Ren suddenly asked.
“Forgetting something? What do you mean?” Merus was puzzled.
“Since we’re already in Universe 11, aren’t you going to visit your sister Marcarita?” Ren asked with a playful smile.
“There’s no need for that. We just met in Universe 18 after the recent tournament,” Merus shook his head. “Angels don’t have to be so formal.”
“Alright then, let’s head straight to Universe 10,” Ren didn’t press further.
Ren had initially planned to visit the God of Destruction realm of Universe 11 to see Marcarita, but since Merus said it wasn’t necessary, he decided to leave it for another time.
“No rush.”
Swish!
Merus emitted a radiant, star-like glow, and with a flash of light, he and Ren sped off toward Universe 10.
…
In Universe 9, on a distant planet.
Broly and Majin Buu were enjoying their meal with great satisfaction.
“Come on, let me take you both to my realm of the God of Destruction,” Sidra invited.
“No thanks,” Broly declined flatly.
“Nope,” Majin Buu echoed, shaking his head.
Sidra: “…”
“There are plenty of fun things and delicious foods waiting for you!” Mule, standing nearby, tried to tempt them.
“Buu and I will wander around on our own; no need to follow us,” Broly replied.
Mule: “…”
This brat…
After eating and drinking with us for several days, now he’s just going to leave like that?
“Yeah, what Broly said!” Majin Buu enthusiastically agreed.
Majin Buu felt that hanging out with these two Gods of Destruction wasn’t fun. It was far more interesting to explore with Broly.
Majin Buu found Broly to be amusing, which made sense since both of them were practically 5 years old.
With both being the same age, it was only natural that they’d get along well. On the other hand, the two Gods of Destruction they had been with—one looking like an old man and the other with a weird appearance and horns on his head—had nothing in common with them. It was impossible for them to play together.
Broly and Majin Buu had a shared interest in food: one loved eating meals, the other loved eating chocolate.
“Let’s go,” Broly said to Majin Buu.
Majin Buu eagerly nodded in agreement.
The two of them shot into the sky, ascending into space and quickly vanishing from the planet.
Just as Mule was about to take off and follow them, Sidra raised his hand to stop him.
“Are we just going to let them go like that? They freeloaded off us for days, and we haven’t discovered anything!” Mule protested, clearly upset.
“Don’t worry,” Sidra said with a smirk. “Do you really think they can escape? At their speed, it won’t be difficult for us to catch up.”
Mule narrowed his eyes, glaring in the direction where Broly had disappeared, his hatred growing even deeper.
“Let’s go after them casually. We can say it’s just a coincidence,” Sidra chuckled.
“That plan seems… pretty ordinary,” Mule said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
“Mule, remember, they’re just kids with the mindset of children. You can’t approach them with an adult’s perspective,” Sidra said with a confident smile.
“You’ve got a point,” Mule admitted with a nod.
“By the way, Mule, did you practice that Secret Art of the Sunflower Manual?” Sidra asked with curiosity.
“No!” Mule instantly shook his head, gritting his teeth as he trembled with anger.
“You didn’t… actually, you know, cut it off, did you?” Sidra asked, his eyes widening in surprise.
“No! I said no!” Mule’s voice became sharper.
“You’re sure? Your voice sounds higher,” Sidra teased, amused.
Mule: “…”
“It’s strange for your voice to change that quickly…” Mule muttered, confused.
“So, you did cut it?” Sidra nearly burst out laughing.
“Sidra, you tricked me!” Mule yelled through clenched teeth.
“Hahaha! Mule, did you really believe in that Sunflower Manual nonsense? It’s just a human martial art. How could it compare to the techniques of gods?” Sidra laughed heartily.
Mule felt utterly miserable.
Sidra had known all along that the manual was fake, yet he still let Mule try it!
What a jerk!
“Did it grow back yet?” Sidra asked with a mischievous grin.
Mule felt too heartbroken to respond.
Regrow? Yeah, right.
“I suppose you’ll need to find an Angel for treatment,” Sidra patted Mule on the shoulder.
Mule remained silent.
“By the way, how are you going to explain this to Campari? When you tell him you cut it off, he’s definitely going to ask why. You might want to think about your answer,” Sidra said, struggling to keep from laughing.
A million thoughts raced through Mule’s mind.
That’s a good point. Campari will definitely ask me about it.
How should I answer him?
“I’ll just say I did it for my health! It’s a great remedy! Do you have a problem with that?” Mule retorted angrily.
Sidra: “…”
Sidra gave Mule a thumbs-up.
“One last question,” Sidra said with a smirk.
Mule didn’t reply.
“Do you stand or squat when you pee now?” Sidra almost burst into laughter again.
“Sidra! I won’t forgive you!” Mule yelled as he lunged toward Sidra, launching a flurry of punches and kicks.
Of course, without being in the body of the robot Mosco, Mule’s attacks had no effect on Sidra.
Besides, Mule wasn’t really trying to fight.
After a bit of playful scuffling, they checked the time and, in sync, transformed into two streams of purple-red light, flying after Broly and Majin Buu.
…
In space.
“Hey, Broly, where should we go next?” Majin Buu asked excitedly.
“What do you want to do?” Broly glanced at Majin Buu.
“I like turning people into chocolate, but Merus won’t let me,” Majin Buu pouted, looking a bit upset.
“That’s wrong,” Broly said, shaking his head.
“You think it’s bad too?” Majin Buu was surprised, looking at Broly curiously.
Broly nodded.
“Fine then, I won’t turn people into chocolate anymore,” Majin Buu thought for a moment and agreed.
“Aside from that, what else do you want to do?” Broly asked.
“I miss Satan,” Majin Buu suddenly said.
Broly: “???”
“Who’s Satan?” Broly asked, puzzled.
“A human from Earth,” Majin Buu replied. “He gave me the best chocolate I’ve ever had.”
“Earth has a lot of good food,” Broly nodded in agreement.
“Let’s go to Earth then!” Majin Buu’s eyes lit up.
“It’s in Universe 6 now, right?” Broly scratched his head.
“How do we get there?” Majin Buu looked around in confusion, unsure of how to travel to Universe 6.
“I don’t know,” Broly admitted, looking just as confused.
The two 5-year-olds were lost in space.
At that moment, Broly suddenly sensed two powerful divine energies approaching from a distance.
“They’re coming!” Broly turned toward the source of the energy.
“Who?” Majin Buu asked.
“Sidra and Mule!” Broly said, stroking his chin. “Ren said they might have bad intentions, and I think he might be right.”
“Should I turn them into chocolate?” Majin Buu suggested eagerly.
