Dragon Ball Xenoverse - Chapter 16
###
“Uh-oh, time is almost up,” Pica exclaimed as he leaped up and hurried towards the World Martial Arts Tournament.
Backstage at the World Martial Arts Tournament, a manager holding a list asked, “Is contestant Pica here? Contestant Pica?”
The manager looked at the seven contestants in front of him, realizing they were indifferent. He sighed, “Since contestant Pica isn’t here, we’ll have to consider him forfeited…”
“I’m here…”
The manager and the other seven contestants looked at the swiftly approaching figure from the horizon.
“Since contestant Pica has arrived, let’s proceed with the drawing,” the manager said, holding a wooden cylinder towards the eight contestants.
Pica drew a stick from the cylinder, which read “A,” and said, “I got ‘A’.”
The pairing was based on “A, B, C, D,” with two contestants holding ‘A’ paired together, and so on.
“Alright, everyone, this is the match distribution for the quarterfinals. The first match is Pica versus Yarin, the second match is Rait versus Brian, the third match is Manhas versus Lin Feihong, and the last match is Frica versus Bit. Pica and Yarin, please prepare; the first match will start in ten minutes,” the manager announced.
Pica looked around and saw that his opponent, Yarin, was dressed in a cloak that covered him entirely, making it impossible to see what he looked like.
Ten minutes passed quickly.
“The first match is about to begin. First to enter the arena is contestant Pica,” Lucia announced, glancing at Pica as he walked to the arena, wondering how his injuries had healed so quickly.
As Pica entered the World Martial Arts Tournament arena, he noticed that it was identical to the one in Dragon Ball, a perfect replica.
Wow, there are so many people.
Pica was astonished by the semicircular stands filled with spectators. He had initially thought the audience size would be similar to that in Dragon Ball, but it was double that.
“The second contestant is Yarin.”
From the backstage emerged a three-meter-tall alien, with a lizard-like head, hunched back, long claws hanging in front, bent legs, and a two-meter-long tail. His body was covered in leather to protect vital areas, giving him a primitive and savage appearance.
There are aliens here? Damn, how did I not notice?
“The World Martial Arts Tournament, first match, begins now!” Lucia declared, flying out of the arena.
“Hello, my name is Pica.” Seeing such a peculiar-looking alien, Pica found it amusing and greeted Yarin friendly.
“Roar!!” Yarin roared, and then a voice, incongruent with his appearance, came from his mouth.
“I-I’m Yarin… P-please be gentle!” A childish voice, like that of a five or six-year-old boy, emerged from the burly alien’s mouth, shocking everyone and eliciting hearty laughter.
Pica covered his mouth and coughed dryly, stunned by the alien’s voice. Even the host, Lucia, had a hint of a smile in her eyes as she looked at the alien.
“Don’t laugh at me! My-my voice has always been like this. What’s so funny?” The lizard alien shouted, embarrassed. His words only made the laughter louder.
“Roar!!”
A sonic wave erupted from Yarin’s mouth, almost knocking Pica off his feet. The wall behind Pica cracked from the force.
“Keep laughing, and I’ll kill you!” Yarin’s eyes turned red. His voice had always been a source of pain for him. Usually, he used a voice modulator to communicate, but the tournament rules didn’t allow any mechanical devices, so he had to use his natural voice.
Just from his roar, Pica sensed a powerful aura emanating from Yarin, comparable to Fei Li using six times Kaioken. And this wasn’t even Yarin’s full strength.
Looks like this will be another tough fight.
Pica thought silently, watching the furious Yarin in front of him.
“Roar!!” Yarin charged at Pica, each step leaving a deep imprint on the newly laid floor.
Yarin threw a punch, but Pica ducked and countered with a punch to Yarin’s chest, causing the air behind Yarin to ripple.
Pica looked up and saw that Yarin was unscathed. Yarin grabbed Pica, squeezing tightly.
“Ah!!” Pica screamed as his bones began to deform under the pressure.
“Argh!!” Pica gripped Yarin’s massive hands, his energy gradually rising, forming a barrier that pushed Yarin away.
“Bang.”
Freed from Yarin’s grasp, Pica punched Yarin in the face.
Yarin barely flinched, swatting Pica away like a fly.
Pica tumbled on the ground, then slowly stood up, stretching his body with a series of cracking sounds.
How is his defense this strong? I can’t break through it. What should I do…?
Suddenly, a thought flashed in Pica’s mind. He accelerated past the speed of sound, launching rapid attacks on Yarin. In less than a second, he had landed over a hundred punches on Yarin.
Pica noticed a brief look of pain on Yarin’s face after some of the punches.
“That’s the spot!” Pica stood behind Yarin, forming a cup shape with his hands and launching a ki blast at Yarin’s tail.
“Heh heh!” Yarin grinned slyly, “You fell into my trap.”
Yarin’s tail whipped around, striking Pica’s shoulder.
The blow shredded Pica’s clothes, leaving a bruise on his shoulder.
“Didn’t expect you to be so cunning. Your appearance doesn’t match your wits,” Pica said to the smirking Yarin.
“I’m not that stupid. Your speed is too fast for me to follow, so I had to play it smart,” Yarin replied, grinning.
“Now, I’ll fight you seriously.” Pica’s aura flared, enveloping him and increasing his combat power from 40,000 to 70,000 (Note: After his severe injuries in the fight with Fei Li, Pica’s combat power surged dramatically upon recovery, similar to how Goku’s power level soared on Namek).
“You weren’t using your full strength?” Yarin said in surprise, realizing Pica’s combat power had reached 70,000.
“Roar!!” Yarin unleashed a long purple beam from his mouth, tearing up the floor where Pica stood.
“Thud, thud, thud.”
Pica dodged the beam, stepping on the debris, and fired several ki blasts at Yarin.
“Ah! Stop running, you coward!” Yarin roared in anger.
“Catch me if you can! If you do, I’ll let you heh heh heh…” Pica taunted with a lecherous grin, making the audience burst into laughter.
Not understanding the innuendo, Lucia blushed as the crowd laughed, muttering, “What a scoundrel!”
