Dragon Ball Xenoverse - Chapter 23
##
It was barely dawn, around four in the morning, and the streets were almost empty. Pica yawned, stretched, and casually sat on a bench by the roadside, muttering to himself:
“Ah… Finally discharged from the hospital, and they won’t even let me rest properly. Why did they ask me to go shopping now? Are the stores even open at this hour?”
“So early, quite the gentleman!”
Selena arrived at the meeting spot. Pica, seeing her, froze in place, staring blankly at her.
She wore a white and orange dress with a short hem, revealing slender legs covered in knee-high socks with frills. She held a small parasol, looking very ladylike, unlike her usual tomboyish self.
Though Pica knew Selena was a beautiful girl, her usually rough demeanor made this outfit a surprising sight.
“Is there something on my face?” Selena asked, touching her face.
“No, your outfit today suits you well. You look very cute,” Pica replied with a smile.
“Idiot!” Selena turned away, her face reddening. She muttered under her breath, “It’s not like I’m dressing up for you, dummy.”
Selena seemed both shy and annoyed. After muttering to herself, she looked back at Pica and sighed.
“Are you really going out in that?”
Pica was still wearing the martial arts uniform given by the god. Though it was patched up from recent battles, it was the only thing he had.
“It’s embarrassing to go out with you like this,” Selena said with a look of disdain.
“Well then, I’ll just go back. I don’t like shopping anyway.”
“No, wait…”
Selena grabbed Pica’s shoulder, her face slightly red, and whispered, “I wasn’t really complaining.”
“What did you say?” Pica asked, teasingly leaning closer to her face.
“Nothing, idiot.” Selena turned her head, giving Pica the back of her head, pouting and crossing her arms, her face still red.
As she turned, her rose-colored hair brushed against Pica’s face, leaving a faint, pleasant scent lingering in his nose.
“Um…” Pica blushed slightly too, the fragrance of her hair making him feel a bit dazed.
“Hmph, we’re going to buy you some new clothes first. Otherwise, I’ll feel embarrassed going out with you. Follow me,” Selena said, her face red, as she dragged Pica towards the shopping district.
Pica watched Selena leading him, a smile gradually spreading across his face. It had been a long time since he went shopping with a female friend.
While most men disliked shopping, they often enjoyed accompanying female friends, especially attractive ones, to the mall.
Selena was soft-hearted despite her tough exterior. Pica had realized some time ago that she no longer resented him for accidentally seeing her change.
“Do stores even open this early?” Pica asked as Selena dragged him along.
Selena stopped and looked at Pica with a disdainful expression, “Are you really that clueless? Don’t you know that the busiest shopping hours here are from four to six in the morning?”
Pica had assumed it was similar to Earth, but Time City was different. The residents admired the strong and loved martial arts.
Some people worked in the morning and trained in the afternoon, leaving no time for shopping.
About 40% of the population were aspiring time patrollers who trained day and night, leaving little time for shopping. Yet, girls still loved to dress up, so they shopped early in the morning.
“The busiest time? Why not go when it’s less crowded?” Pica asked, preferring quieter shopping times.
“Do you think everyone has as much free time as you? I have to train too. The morning is the only time we can shop freely. Sometimes I wonder if you even belong in Time City,” Selena said, exasperated.
“Oh, I see.”
The mall was luxuriously decorated, with a crystal chandelier emitting a soft yellow light. The floor was made of golden marble tiles.
Around them were various brand shops selling everything from combat gear and weapons to small accessories like earrings and rings.
“Wow, there’s so much variety here!” Pica exclaimed.
Selena’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the items in the shops.
The crowded mall contrasted sharply with the empty streets outside.
“This way,” Selena pointed to a store called Yako Brand Store.
“Yako? Sounds like Yakult,” Pica muttered.
“This is the best brand for men’s fashion in Time City. You should find something suitable,” Selena said with a smile, but her eyes kept glancing at the store next door.
“Just say you want to go to that store next door. What’s it called?” Pica thought to himself.
Following Selena’s gaze, he saw the sign: Women’s Saiyan Specialty Store. Below it was a note: Only sells items for female Saiyans. Men are not allowed unless accompanied!
Pica’s mouth twitched as he thought, “Damn, men are not allowed unless accompanied. I’m not a dog… But being a dog just this once might be worth it!”
He noticed that the store was full of women and no men. He had even glimpsed a beautiful woman trying on lingerie through a crack. This was a man’s paradise.
“Come on, stop gawking,” Selena said with a bit of jealousy, dragging Pica into the Yako store.
“These, and this, and this one, hmm… also this. Go try them on. If they don’t fit, we’ll choose others,” Selena said, handing Pica a pile of clothes.
“Uh… How long will this take?” Pica asked, looking bewildered at the mountain of clothes, feeling like a thousand alpacas were running wild in his mind.
“Stop complaining and try them on already,” Selena said impatiently.
“Alright.”
Pica took the clothes and went into the fitting room, coming out with different outfits one after another, trying on nearly twenty pieces.
“Wait, this one looks pretty good!” Selena said, leaning forward to inspect Pica’s outfit.
From her neckline, Pica could see her pink bra covering her ample chest and the white skin tinged with a slight blush. His face turned red, and noticing this, Selena asked.
“Hmm, what are you looking at… pervert!” Selena said, covering her neckline with both hands, angrily glaring at Pica.
