Chapter 228: Bounty D. Wald

As night fell, Luffy noticed a large pot of delicious food by the shore. Without caring about its owner, he happily dug in.

Meanwhile, Rodney and Rayleigh sat on the side, preparing their own meal. Rodney grumbled, “Why do we have to eat this? There’s plenty of good food with Luffy!”

Rayleigh chuckled, “That’s Hancock’s heartfelt dinner for Luffy, even though he has no idea. Let’s not touch it.”

Eating it might not only draw the attention of the Nine Snakes but also provoke Hancock. They were getting older and couldn’t afford such trouble. It was better to cook their own meal in peace.

Rodney thought for a moment and took out two bowls of ramen. He hadn’t had this in a long time, but an occasional meal wouldn’t hurt.

Rayleigh looked puzzled and asked, “Can your abilities do that?” It was quite a unique power.

“Just a temporary measure. I usually don’t use it. Next time, I’ll have Lester and Sanji make me a bunch of food, and I’ll seal it away to eat slowly.” Rodney planned to prepare some space scrolls to store food, avoiding the need to cook.

“The taste isn’t bad,” Rayleigh commented as he tasted the ramen.

“It’s decent, but too much makes me want to vomit,” Rodney shook his head. He picked up a piece of meat from the boiling pot and said, “In theory, Wald should be arriving soon, right?”

“You saw him?”

“Probably. I just wanted to test my abilities!” Although Wald’s abilities were troublesome, they were suitable for Rodney to practice with, especially his unfinished Wood Release.

A loud explosion rang out. Rodney finished his ramen in one go, drinking the soup too. He casually wiped his mouth with his sleeve and said, “He’s here. Luffy probably ran into him!”

Both Rodney and Rayleigh rushed out and arrived at the shore. They found a burly man holding two large women, one green and one yellow, who turned out to be Hancock’s sisters.

Luffy, on the other hand, lay on the ground with a large stone shattered nearby. It was originally a small stone, but due to Wald’s ability, it had suddenly grown larger and gained Haki, injuring Luffy’s rubber body.

“It looks like I’m late!” Rodney appeared next to Luffy, grabbed him, and tossed him to Rayleigh.

Wearing a helmet with one horn broken, resembling a Viking, teeth perfectly aligned except for one missing between two, a blue beard hanging down to his chest, and a fierce expression, Rodney’s shoulder carried a frail old man with a hanging IV bag. The old man trembled, frail and feeble, as if he would pass away at any moment.

“Long time no see, Wald!” Rayleigh greeted Wald.

Wald looked at Rayleigh, not recognizing him at first. His brother, Binjak, who was on his shoulder, said, “Rayleigh, the right-hand man of Pirate King Roger.”

Wald suddenly realized. The formidable man from before had aged so much. “Rayleigh, how did you end up here?”

“Just taking on an apprentice. These two girls with you are my juniors. Can you release them?” Rayleigh requested.

“I’m here for that little girl. Let her come out, and these two women will be of no use to me,” Wald replied.

“That’s not happening. I can’t let you harm them,” Rayleigh shook his head. He took a step back and said, “Rodney, Wald is all yours. Don’t harm Marigold and Sandersonia.”

“Got it!” Rodney moved forward. Wald released Hancock’s sisters, and Binjak was thrown aside.

Boom!
Rodney was sent flying, but he was the only one left standing in the spot.

“Whew! That feeling… So, you’ve hardened your whole body with Armament Haki?” Judging from the sensation just now, Wald seemed to have used Armament Haki to harden his body.

Binjak, who was lying on the ground, struggled to get up. Given his frail condition after so many years and his illness, it was remarkable that he had survived. But he cared more about his brother. “Wald!”

“Don’t worry; he’s not dead,” Rodney said, flexing his bones. Both his arms were hardened with Armament Haki. He launched a punch, shattering the suddenly enlarged stone in front of him. The nearby Binjak said, “He’s the former Seven Warlord who defeated the current Navy Admiral. Be careful of his strange Devil Fruit powers.”

“Water Release: Heavenly Weeping!”

Rodney spat out a stream of water, hitting Wald directly. Although Wald closed his eyes and used Armament Haki to withstand it, it stung a bit, and he was furious at Rodney’s sneak attack. “Kid, you actually ambushed me?!”

“Any problem with that? I ambushed with my abilities. Why call me despicable? If you have the ability, you can ambush too!” Rodney replied confidently. He followed up with a set of hand seals. After completing the final seal, he kicked Wald in the chest, using the recoil to step back. Then he exhaled a puff of smoke, saying, “Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!”

Wald pulled out a handgun and fired at Rodney.

“Momo Momo: Fiftyfold Speed!”

With his speed increased fiftyfold, which was already beyond the limits of human sight, Rodney easily dodged the barrage of bullets, even giving the Sharingan a hard time keeping up with his movements. While using his perception, he relied on the Mangekyou Sharingan to deal with Wald.

Their fists continued to exchange blows. Neither of them cared about the pain, with Wald’s full-body hardening making him immune to it, and Rodney relying on his rapid regeneration from the power of the Three Tails and Hashirama’s cells.

“Brat! Not bad!”

Seeing that he couldn’t continue to engage, Wald frowned, found an opportunity, and kicked Rodney in the chest, sending him flying. He then grabbed Binjak and hurriedly retreated.
