In Marvel, People are Kamen Rider - Chapter 40
Garrett’s expression was quite grim.
He wasn’t worried about the Asgardians who had escaped capture but rather that these captured Asgardians might reveal Hydra’s secrets.
Hydra had been setting up within S.H.I.E.L.D. for many years; they couldn’t afford to be exposed so easily.
“Don’t worry, Garrett, we’ll catch them!” Clint and the others thought Garrett was concerned about the escaped Asgardians causing more destruction.
They briefly regrouped.
Then, they collected the remains of a few who had fallen.
It wasn’t quite right to call them bodies, as they had turned to sand.
The rest of the team packed their sandy remains and clothes into lab boxes, saving the need for cremation.
“Let’s get these little guys out first, then go after the Asgardians.”
Garrett lit a cigar, smoking as he checked his gun.
Those who knew Garrett well knew that this meant he was getting serious.
Everyone else heightened their alertness and safety, caught off their guns.
“You two, answer me now. What is your real scheme for coming here?”
On the side, Melinda was interrogating the two Asgardians.
The two Asgardians were now securely tied up with a net made of unique material by S.H.I.E.L.D., seemingly unable to break free.
Melinda pulled the trigger, and the armor-piercing bullet harshly penetrated the body of the fern-like Asgardian.
“You ask me, but I won’t tell! If you’re brave enough, just kill me!”
The fern-like Asgardian gasped in pain but gritted his teeth and said.
“Your companions have already abandoned you. Why keep their secrets?
If you tell us, we might even reduce your sentence!”
With a seductive look, Natasha moved closer to the fern-like Asgardian’s face.
“Get lost! You lowly human, don’t think you can seduce me just because you’re pretty!”
The fern-like Asgardian spat at Natasha, a stream of green fluid instantly spraying on her face.
“Natasha, are you okay?”
Clint and the others immediately looked at Natasha with concern.
“I’m fine! The fluid isn’t poisonous. It even smells nice!”
Natasha was initially panicked, but after realizing that the fern-like Asgardian’s saliva had no toxins,
She even felt refreshed, and her eyes brightened.
“Pah! That spit was wasted on you!”
The fern-like Asgardian gritted his teeth.
The fern is a commonly used medicinal plant, primarily known for dispersing heat, relieving eye discomfort, and calming pain and anxiety.
So, as a fern-like Asgardian, his saliva did not contain toxins like other Asgardians but could heal.
“Though it’s not harmful, it’s still pretty disgusting!”
Natasha fired at the fern-like Asgardian, causing him to cry out in pain.
“Let’s not wait any longer. Let’s start moving! Hand these two guys and the little ones over to Coulson and Hand, and we’ll return for the others!”
Garrett took deep puffs of his cigar, feeling energized.
He had been seriously injured before and sometimes needed something vital to stay alert.
“Alright, let’s go!”
The agents regrouped, and four escorted the two Asgardians while the rest moved cautiously through the lab.
“Hey, Fitz, right? What are you doing?”
Melinda questioned the youthful Fitz, not knowing he would become one of her closest comrades in the future.
She received information about Fitz from Agent Hand, who mentioned that Fitz and Jemma had tremendous potential. At that moment, Fitz stared at a hole in the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought.
“I’m thinking about the intentions of the Asgardians!”
Fitz, who had earned a doctorate at seventeen due to his genius, also had a terrifying intellect.
He squinted his eyes and approached the two Asgardians being escorted, then said:
“I’m thinking, if the Asgardians are going to such lengths to infiltrate our base and want to transform everyone here, they just need some kind of technology!”
“What kind of technology do they have?”
Garrett frowned.
“Maybe it’s a toxin!”
Fitz pointed to the ventilation duct on the ceiling, saying:
“These Asgardians just escaped through the ceiling’s ventilation ducts.
The weather is cold today, and the air conditioning in the base is on.
If they find the central air conditioning ducts and manage to inject some toxin, wouldn’t the entire base be in danger?”
“That makes sense! If they send out some toxic air, everyone in the base won’t be spared!”
Natasha, Clint, and the others immediately brightened up.
“Where’s the hub’s central air conditioning?”
Melinda quickly checked the map.
“There are four locations! There’s one in the D zone on our floor, one each in the Y and Q zones on the third floor, and one in the M zone on the top floor!”
“Quick, ask Hand if she can remotely shut down the four central air conditioning!”
“Hand says she can shut down three, but the control circuit for the main air conditioner in M zone on the top floor is broken!”
“The Asgardians are on the top floor! We need to hurry up there! Everyone put on your gas masks!”
Agents bustled about, busy and anxious.
“You’re doing very well, kid!”
Melinda gently patted Fitz on the shoulder, increasingly pleased with him.
“There’s no time to send the little ones outside. Come with us to the top floor! Let’s finish them off. Consider it a trial!”
Garrett squeezed Fitz’s arm, saying:
“But you’re too skinny! Different from the new apprentice I took on. He’s solid!”
“I know, it’s Grant Ward, right? That kid is indeed good, managed to turn the tides on his first mission, and is truly a promising young man!”
Clint nodded.
“That’s right, you wouldn’t expect less from who trained him!”
The agents joked and laughed, but their eyes were earnest, knowing this mission was no simple task.
The danger posed by the Asgardians far exceeded any opponent they had encountered before.
And for newcomers like Fitz and Jemma, their hearts fluctuated wildly, a mix of panic and excitement.
The group had expected their first trial to come slowly. Even before it started, they had already lost ten comrades.
“Fitz, can we stay in S.H.I.E.L.D.?”
Jemma gripped Fitz’s hand.
“We can! We definitely can!”
Although Fitz was not confident inside, he gripped Jemma’s hand back, both holding on as if trying to merge into each other.
The group marched quickly upstairs.
Due to the risk with the elevator, the stairs were the best choice.
Fortunately, the entire hub base only had five floors, and the stairs were easy to climb.
Within a minute, everyone reached the top floor.
With their keen senses, the group immediately smelled the scent of danger.
