- Chapter 12 - "Let Me Finish What My Brother Couldn't"
After digesting the information provided by Fugaku Uchiha, Mirai exhaled, his eyes flickering slightly.
The Mangekyo Sharingan, huh?
An even higher level of the Sharingan existed.
He had never watched Naruto.
All he knew was that it was a popular series from Japan.
From fleeting glimpses on social media, he’d seen references like “Legend of the Eyes,” “Mecha Battles Aliens,” and “Black Zetsu Saves Mother.” That summed up his entire knowledge of Naruto.
Could “Legend of the Eyes” be referring to these eyes?
Did my mecha theme run off course?
And what does “saves mother” mean?
Could there be some kind of R-rated ethical storyline?
Mirai’s thoughts began to drift.
Fugaku Uchiha watched Mirai’s expression. He noticed the tension in Mirai’s face gradually easing, and he finally relaxed himself.
If possible, he did not want to make an enemy of Mirai.
This was a complex man.
More difficult to deal with than the Fourth Hokage.
Most importantly, he now had no ties holding him back.
Naruto was his only remaining family.
Angering this lone wolf now would be incredibly foolish.
“I’ve roughly understood the situation,” Mirai’s sudden voice brought Fugaku’s heart back to his throat.
“The Uchiha likely had nothing to do with that night,” Mirai said, his eyes narrowing.
Combining the information he already had with what he just learned from Fugaku, Mirai began to piece together a profile of the culprit.
Hidden identity, operating in the shadows, possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan, and likely a time-space jutsu.
Given the traces of Wood Release found that night, it’s also possible the culprit had mastery over Wood Release.
He was sure the jutsu was time-space related because of what he knew about Minato.
Only space-time can defeat space-time.
That was Minato’s belief.
His talent for space-time jutsu had always been poor. Even with Minato’s guidance, learning the Flying Thunder God Technique was extremely difficult.
However, during those three missing years, he had made significant progress.
Maybe he could give it a try.
Clearing his head, Mirai looked directly into Fugaku’s eyes and spoke calmly.
“Now, let’s discuss the real matter.”
The real matter?
Fugaku frowned, unsure of what Mirai meant.
The latter seemed not to notice his confusion, gazing wistfully as if reminiscing.
“When I returned to the village and learned about my brother and sister-in-law’s fate, I had one thought: to remove Hiruzen Sarutobi and his followers from the Hokage position.”
“However, to achieve this, I can’t do it alone. I need your help.”
The long conversation had left Fugaku parched. He licked his dry lips, his heart pounding uncontrollably.
He and the surrounding Uchiha members, including Setsuna and Inabi, breathed heavily, and their eyes turned scarlet.
Madness!
Pure madness!
They could only describe Mirai as mad. His words were nothing short of a declaration of war against the entire Konoha leadership!
“As far as I know, the Uchiha are not in a good position. So, this is your chance. Will you stand behind me, or continue being their lapdogs?”
Mirai smiled, but it was a smile that sent chills down their spines.
Fugaku’s voice trembled.
“Can you tell me why?”
From his memory, Mirai was never one to crave power.
If that were the case, he would have been a stronger contender for Hokage after the Third Shinobi War than Minato.
But he had given it up.
Willingly staying in the background, silently supporting Minato.
Why?
Mirai turned his head and looked out the window. He saw three-year-old Naruto playing with Sasuke and smiling brightly from this position.
“For that child, is that reason enough?”
That child?
Fugaku followed Mirai’s gaze.
The Fourth Hokage’s son?
Although Hiruzen Sarutobi had tried to hide Naruto’s identity, Fugaku, the Uchiha clan leader, knew the truth.
“I kept thinking, what if I had returned a few years later, or never returned at all? What would Naruto’s life have been like? Would he live his whole life under bullying?”
Mirai closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, filling his lungs with the cold air.
“Every time I think about it, I feel a surge of anger.”
“That child is the only thing my foolish brother left behind in this world. For him, is that reason enough?”
He opened his eyes, and blue lightning flickered in his gaze. That cold look made Fugaku shiver.
He knew this beast was truly enraged.
The consequences would be severe.
“My foolish brother, though talented, wasn’t ruthless or decisive enough. I tried to warn him, but still…”
“His death isn’t as simple as it appears. It’s filled with mystery and conspiracy.”
“If I hadn’t returned, so be it. But since I’m back, I won’t let some things slide.”
“What my brother couldn’t finish, I’ll take over!”
“The position of Hokage will be mine, Mirai!”
The hall fell utterly silent.
Mirai’s final words struck like a heavy hammer, echoing throughout the room.
Fugaku, along with Inabi and the others, remained silent.
In this deathly silence, a hearty laugh broke through.
“Mirai, such spirit! I, Uchiha Setsuna, acknowledge you!”
Setsuna, leaning on his cane, laughed heartily. It had been a long time since he felt such passion.
Since Madara left the village, his blood and spirit seemed to have withered.
Finally, under Mirai’s words, his blood began to boil, as if he had returned to his younger days, the days of following Madara Uchiha!
Mirai’s blond face overlapped Madara’s in his vision for a moment.
Setsuna felt he had grasped the future!
“Fugaku, how long are you going to hesitate? Has your spirit been completely worn down?”
Seeing Fugaku’s hesitation, Setsuna struck his cane, his voice filled with frustration.
When will this clan leader show some backbone?
Fugaku took a deep breath and closed his eyes as if struggling internally…
Finally, he opened his eyes and sighed.
“As long as it doesn’t endanger my clan, I’ll stand by you.”
Mirai smiled slightly.
“As you wish.”
He turned and left, leaving the silent group behind.
…
Outside, Naruto was playing with Sasuke. Seeing Mirai emerge, he ran over excitedly.
“Uncle, you finished your business!”
Mirai took his hand and walked away.
In the sunlight, their shadows stretched long.
“Uncle, you seem really happy.”
Naruto looked up at his smiling uncle.
He didn’t know why his uncle was so happy, but if he was pleased, so was he.
“Of course, I’m happy!”
Mirai beamed brightly.
Because your uncle is going to be Hokage!
