- Chapter 17 - This Eye Will Be the Price for Your Insolence!
Danzo’s pupils trembled.
He felt like a giant hand was gripping his heart, squeezing it madly.
He couldn’t breathe.
His chest felt like a massive weight was pressing down on it.
Waves of shock surged in his mind!
Dead!
All dead!
The ten elite Root members he had meticulously prepared and sent out were dead!
This entire forest had been leveled. The pungent smell of blood, wood shavings, and dirt filled his nose and mouth.
Five of these ten Root members were Jonin; the other five were special Jonin, proficient in sealing techniques.
Even rarer than ordinary Jonin!
Such a significant force, completely wiped out.
His heart bled!
“Namikaze! Mirai!”
Word by word, Danzo spat out, his eyes bloodshot, squeezing the words through clenched teeth.
“You killed your fellow villagers recklessly, your methods cruel and heinous!”
“Do you have no regard for Konoha?!”
Anger mixed with unwillingness roared out of Danzo’s mouth.
This righteous outburst made Mirai, who had just finished his slaughter, laugh.
“What a big hat to wear.”
“Danzo, I am here, and you should know better than anyone what this group of Root members aimed to do.”
Danzo’s shamelessness amused him.
Regarding accusations, I, Mirai, acknowledge you as the strongest!
“Hmph! Stay here and wait for Hiruzen to come, then we will discuss how to deal with you!”
Danzo’s left hand subtly rested on his right arm, taking a defensive stance, a drop of cold sweat trickling down from his forehead.
Damn it!
I shouldn’t have rushed here so quickly!
I should have waited for Hiruzen to come together.
Facing Mirai alone, especially after witnessing this bloody scene, was overwhelmingly stressful.
Danzo felt immense pressure!
He still couldn’t figure out how Mirai broke through his meticulously prepared sealing techniques and killed all the Root members!
These Root members were carefully selected specifically to counter his abilities!
“Danzo, there’s something I need an answer from you.”
The contempt in Mirai’s azure eyes faded, replaced by a hint of coldness.
“I heard that during the Nine-Tails’ attack, you sent Root members to stop the Uchiha Police Force from providing support?”
“That’s right! It was me.”
Danzo sneered.
“The Sharingan pattern in the Nine-Tails’ eyes clearly linked it to the Uchiha clan. I stopped their support; you should be grateful.”
Mirai’s face gradually turned cold.
After visiting the Uchiha clan’s territory, he was almost sure that the Uchiha had little to do with the Nine-Tails’ attack.
The Uchiha had no reason to do something so foolish.
There was another enemy with a Mangeky? Sharingan lurking in the shadows.
If Fugaku had succeeded in providing support, the outcome might have been different!
Danzo seemed unaware of Mirai’s changing expression, continuing on his own.
“If I hadn’t stopped the Uchiha, who knows what would have happened. Your brother and sister-in-law might have…”
Boom!
The ground beneath Mirai’s feet cracked, and he vanished from his original spot.
He reappeared in front of Danzo.
A clenched right fist aimed at Danzo’s left eye.
Three silver metallic blades extended between his knuckles, reflecting a sharp, cold gleam.
Danzo’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, a drop of cold sweat sliding down his forehead, his left eye staring at the metal claws just inches away.
Just a bit more…
Just a bit more…
And his left eye would be…
Chakra surged within him under the crisis, the Sharingan in his bandaged right eye socket already bloodshot.
Izanagi was ready to activate at any moment.
Danzo smelled the scent of death.
It had been a long time since he had tasted it, since leaving the battlefield and hiding in the shadows.
This taste of death!
“Mirai, what are you trying to do!?”
A sudden, furious voice broke the tension, shattering the almost solidified air.
Hiruzen Sarutobi arrived with the Anbu.
They stopped behind Danzo, tensed, staring at Mirai.
Some Anbu even drew their kunai, subtly preparing to engage.
“Third Hokage, sending out Root members to assassinate a village ninja, how will you account for that?”
The three sharp claws didn’t retract, pressed against Danzo’s left eye.
The sharp sensation made Danzo’s eyeball feel a prickling pain.
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked at the bloody battlefield behind Mirai, a deep unease rising within him.
Danzo, this bastard, had caused another disaster!
As he had guessed, Mirai was more substantial than three years ago!
No one knew his limits!
“Danzo acted recklessly, disregarding village rules. As Hokage, I order him stripped of his position as village advisor as punishment.”
Hiruzen Sarutobi stared at Mirai, taking a deep breath to suppress his anger.
“I hope this punishment will satisfy you.”
This beast was on the edge of rage; if provoked, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Scenes from the Third Great Ninja War already proved this.
In his heart, Hiruzen cursed Danzo fiercely.
This idiot, how many times had he been warned!
If Mirai was so easy to deal with, why hadn’t he done it himself?
At this point, a compromise had to be made.
To stop this beast’s anger.
Sure enough, after Hiruzen’s words, the coldness in Mirai’s eyes faded slightly.
The three sharp claws in front of Danzo began to retract slowly.
Just as Hiruzen Sarutobi breathed a sigh of relief.
Slash!
“Ahhhhhh! My eye!”
A spray of blood splashed.
Danzo clutched his left eye, collapsing to the ground, his face twisted in agony, crimson blood seeping through his fingers, quickly staining his entire hand.
“You!”
Hiruzen Sarutobi clenched his fists, teeth grinding, his eyes seemingly burning with intense anger.
He had already made concessions.
But Mirai still…
“This eye will be the price for your insolence!”
“Danzo! How are you?”
Hiruzen Sarutobi anxiously helped Danzo up, the latter trembling as he removed his hand, his left eye socket a bloody mess.
“Hiruzen, I can’t see…”
Three bloody slashes extended from his nose to his temple, the middle one covering his left eye completely.
The eye socket was a mass of blood and flesh.
“Medical team!”
Hiruzen Sarutobi roared at the sky.
…
The sun had set entirely.
The night was gradually darkening.
Naruto sat by the window, resting his chin on one hand, waiting boredly.
Creak.
The door opened.
Seeing the person entering, Naruto excitedly ran over.
“Uncle! You finally came back. I thought you broke your promise.”
Mirai smiled, ruffling Naruto’s blonde hair.
“Hungry?”
“Yeah.”
“Uncle will make you dinner.”
“Uncle always keeps his promises to Naruto!”
