- Chapter 36 - Danzo is Furious! Hiashi, What Are You Doing?
Knock, knock, knock!
A knock sounded at the door.
Mirai smiled as he ruffled Naruto’s hair.
“The food is in the kitchen. Heat it up yourself. Uncle has to go out for a bit.”
“Okay,” Naruto nodded obediently.
Opening the door, an ANBU member with a mask jumped down from a tree, standing before Mirai.
His voice was devoid of any emotion.
“Mirai, the Hokage requests your presence at the Hokage Tower.”
“Lead the way.”
Mirai’s expression remained calm as if he had anticipated this.
Following the ANBU, he arrived at the Hokage Tower and pushed open the door to the third-floor meeting room.
Inside, it was eerily silent.
The long conference table was filled with ninjas, almost all high-ranking officials or clan heads of various sizes within the village.
All eyes instantly focused on him.
Those gazes held a variety of emotions.
There was scrutiny, disdain, surprise…
Mirai’s expression didn’t change. It seemed Hiruzen had already made preparations, specifically inviting many high-ranking officials from the village.
He planned to use their influence to judge him.
“Mirai, you’re just in time. Find a seat and sit down.”
Saying ‘find a seat’ was unnecessary, as only one seat was available.
Mirai didn’t mind and sat down casually, leaning back in his chair.
His calm behavior made Hiruzen, at the head of the table, raise an eyebrow.
He gave Mirai a deep look.
Then, he took a deep breath, gathered himself, and spoke.
“Three days ago, the delegation from the Hidden Cloud Village sent to Konoha was brutally killed at night!”
“I believe everyone here has heard about this?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the conference room erupted.
“Is this true?”
“Who would dare? Killing the envoys from the Hidden Cloud Village, are they trying to force Konoha into war?”
Some ninjas, hearing this for the first time, were visibly shocked.
Killing the envoys from a central ninja village, especially those coming to sign a peace treaty, was a significant diplomatic incident.
But most of the ninjas remained calm, aware of the incident that had happened days ago.
Glancing around the room and seeing the expected reaction, Hiruzen focused on Mirai.
“Mirai, do you have anything to say about this?”
There seemed to be a coldness in his eyes.
“After all, you were the one who caused this.”
The room buzzed again.
“Mirai? Isn’t he Minato’s brother? Why would he do such a thing?”
“Doesn’t he understand the consequences of killing the envoys from the Hidden Cloud Village?”
Many angry and confused eyes were fixed on Mirai.
A cold smile appeared in Hiruzen’s gray eyes.
Mirai’s unique status as the Fourth Hokage’s brother and his rebellious nature meant that Hiruzen usually wouldn’t dare to rebuke him.
But now, with so many high-ranking officials and clan heads present, leveraging their combined influence, he wasn’t afraid of Mirai causing trouble.
This subtle change in expression didn’t escape Mirai’s notice.
“Yes, it was me.”
He admitted it openly.
This stirred up another round of uproar.
“Why, Mirai? Why did you do such a thing?”
“If the Raikage gets angry, will the village have to go to war again?”
Sitting next to Hiruzen, even Danzo was momentarily stunned by Mirai’s straightforward admission.
Did this guy understand the situation?
He just admitted it like that?
“The Raikage is very angry about this incident. If we can’t appease him, war could break out again at any moment.”
Hiruzen stared directly at Mirai.
The atmosphere in the room reached a freezing point.
Many high-ranking officials looked at Mirai with anger.
They had just begun to forget the pain of the Third Shinobi War and finally welcomed peace. Now, because of this, war might break out again.
And the culprit behind all this was sitting here so nonchalantly?
“Mirai! By killing the envoys from the Hidden Cloud Village, do you even care about this village?”
Danzo seized the opportunity to accuse Mirai with fury.
“Danzo, why don’t you explain why those envoys were there in the first place?”
Leaning back in his chair, Mirai looked at Danzo indifferently.
It was as if Danzo’s accusation was just hot air.
“Mirai, don’t change the subject. We’re discussing how to appease the Raikage’s anger.”
Hiruzen frowned, trying to steer the conversation back.
“It’s because of my daughter.”
Hiashi, who had been silent, spoke up.
At his words, the high-ranking officials around the table exchanged glances.
What did this have to do with the Hyuga Clan?
They only knew that Mirai had killed the Hidden Cloud Village’s ninjas, but they didn’t know the details.
This was also a result of Hiruzen’s deliberate guidance.
“Alright, Hiashi. Haven’t we already settled the matter with the Hyuga Clan? We’re discussing Mirai’s issue now.”
Hiruzen’s expression showed slight dissatisfaction. Why was Hiashi speaking up now?
Hiashi Hyuga took a deep breath.
“Please, let me finish.”
“That night, the Hidden Cloud Village’s envoys took advantage of my daughter’s birthday celebration, when our defenses were down, and kidnapped my daughter Hinata. Mirai only acted to save her.”
Hearing his explanation, the stern expressions of the ninjas around the table began to soften.
“So that’s it. So, Mirai had to act to save Hinata.”
“But why would the Hidden Cloud Village’s envoys kidnap Hinata? What were their intentions?”
Danzo frantically signaled to Hiashi.
What was this idiot doing?
By revealing the cause and effect so quickly, how could they pressure Mirai?
Wasn’t the matter with the Hyuga Clan already resolved?
But Hiashi’s following words made Danzo’s face stiffen, leaving him stunned.
“Knowing the severe consequences of this incident, and to appease the Raikage, my brother Hizashi had to sacrifice his life to satisfy them.”
Hiashi’s voice carried a hint of sadness, and his clear, pure white eyes reflected an unusual sorrow.
The ninjas around the table were in an uproar.
To resolve the death of the Hidden Cloud Village’s envoys, one of Konoha’s major clans, the Hyuga Clan, had to offer the life of the clan leader’s brother.
The Hidden Cloud Village was too overbearing.
Moreover, it was their fault in the first place, right?
Danzo couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Enough, Hiashi!”
