- Chapter 57 - Hiruzen, If You Stand in My Way, I’ll Kill You Too!
After dealing with Baku, Mirai turned his gaze to the fleeing Danzo.
Sensing the bone-chilling intent behind him, Danzo felt his scalp tingle and immediately created four shadow clones. Amid the smoke, he and his clones fled in different directions, hoping to confuse Mirai.
This action drew a mocking smile from Mirai.
“It seems you still don’t understand. Transformation and Shadow Clone Jutsu are useless against me!”
He raised his right index finger, and a small silver snake slithered out from his sleeve, coiling into a small sphere at his fingertip.
A blue arc of electricity flashed.
Bang!
Danzo’s face changed drastically, filled with disbelief. His gaze dropped to his chest, where a gaping, bowl-sized hole now existed, bloody and horrifying.
“Impossible… my shadow clone…”
Before he could finish, his body vanished like a mirage.
“Oh? The second time already?”
Standing atop the ruins, Mirai’s blue eyes showed a hint of surprise.
It seemed Danzo had quite a few Sharingan in stock.
Well, that was fine.
It meant he could torture Danzo for a bit longer.
Where would he respawn this time?
With a faint smile, Mirai scanned the ruins.
Danzo’s Izanagi was inferior to the authentic Uchiha’s version, lasting only a minute.
Sure enough, he soon sensed Danzo’s biofield in a corner, crawling through the ruins, using the debris to cover his body, inching forward bit by bit.
Without biofield sensing, one might have been fooled by this.
“Hold on! I must hold on!”
Crawling in the corner of the ruins, Danzo discarded any sense of humiliation.
His only thought was an escape!
With such a commotion, Hiruzen and the others must have noticed and were on their way.
If he could hold out until they arrived, Hiruzen wouldn’t let Mirai kill him!
Humph! So what if the Root was gone?
As long as I survive, I can rebuild!
Suddenly, his left hand touched a shoe. Danzo froze, trembling as he looked up.
Mirai was bending over, looking at him with a mocking smile.
Danzo shivered!
I can’t accept this!
He only had three Sharingan in total, and two had been used. If he died again, there would be only one life left!
Mirai stomped down, smashing Danzo’s head like a watermelon, blood and brain matter splattering everywhere.
Almost simultaneously, Hiruzen, Fugaku, and others arrived at the battlefield.
Hiruzen witnessed Mirai stomping on Danzo’s head, his pupils shrinking as he felt dizzy, nearly falling from the sky.
“Lord Hokage!”
The ANBU beside him quickly supported him.
Dead?
Was Danzo dead?
Just like that, with his head crushed by Mirai?
A pitiful death?
Fugaku, Hiashi, and other Konoha leaders who had just arrived looked at the gruesome ruins and found breathing hard.
Had the root been destroyed?
And Danzo too?
There was no joy on Mirai’s face. Danzo’s body vanished, and Mirai narrowed his eyes, continuing to search for Danzo.
Based on the Sharingan he had, this should be the last time.
“Hiruzen, save me.”
Still reeling from Danzo’s death, Hiruzen was startled by a weak voice nearby.
Looking over, he saw Danzo appear out of thin air.
“Danzo, you’re not dead?”
“I used a life-saving technique. This is my last life. If I die again, it’s for real!”
Danzo pinned all his hopes on Hiruzen.
Hiruzen was here, along with other Konoha leaders. Around the ruins, many Konoha ninjas had arrived.
If Hiruzen wanted to save him, he might just survive.
Hiruzen gritted his teeth, looking at Mirai.
“I don’t know what Danzo did to provoke you, but you’ve destroyed the Root and killed so many ninjas. Isn’t your anger appeased yet?”
“I can offer ample compensation if you spare Danzo.”
Hiruzen pleaded sincerely.
His offer was generous.
Not only did he not pursue Mirai for causing such a commotion, but he also offered compensation.
In his view, this concession should be enough.
As soon as he finished speaking, Mirai burst into laughter.
His laughter echoed across the bloody ruins, making Danzo, Hiruzen, and the ANBU behind him shiver.
“Hiruzen, can you compensate for my nephew?”
Hiruzen’s heart sank.
As expected!
The only thing that could anger Mirai so was Naruto!
He had hoped Danzo had provoked Mirai for some other reason.
But now, that hope was shattered.
“Danzo is the village’s adviser. Name your conditions, just don’t kill him.”
Hiruzen gritted his teeth, increasing his offer.
Behind him, Danzo swallowed, his forehead drenched in cold sweat.
For the first time in his life, he felt death so close.
“Hiruzen, take a good look at Danzo’s right arm.”
Mirai sneered.
His arm?
Hiruzen froze. He had been so tense since arriving that he hadn’t noticed Danzo’s arm.
At Mirai’s prompting, Fugaku and the others also looked at Danzo’s right arm.
“Is that!?”
Fugaku’s pupils shrank!
“A Sharingan from our clan?”
Though the Sharingan on Danzo’s arm was closed, Fugaku recognised the signs of Izanagi!
Considering Danzo’s revival, everything made sense!
One after another, Sharingan glowed red as the Uchiha who had arrived breathed heavily, glaring at Danzo as if they wanted to tear him apart.
Hiruzen’s body shook.
He understood.
“Danzo, you fool!”
Veins bulged in his eyes.
“I told you, you can’t save him today!”
Mirai’s cold voice spread through the air.
Above, countless metal blades materialised, reflecting cold light like a dark cloud, dimming the sky.
“One life is not enough to quell my anger!”
Hiruzen’s expression turned pained and conflicted.
Finally, he sighed.
“Danzo, this is for the village.”
He stepped aside, looking aged by decades.
Mirai moved his fingers, and the myriad of blades flew at Danzo.
“No! Hiruzen, you’ll regret this!!!”
Danzo screamed.
His body was shredded, turning into a rain of blood.
This time, he did not revive.
His Izanagi was exhausted!
The Konoha ninjas who had arrived remained silent.
Only silence enveloped the ruins.
Mirai walked over to Naruto, gently wiping his tears with blood-stained fingers.
“Naruto, let’s go home.”
