Lee Sin's Bizzare Adventure - Chapter 30
In the pristine, picturesque blue sky, three entities created a bizarre and supernatural scene: the panicked pigeon, the soaring bald man, and the transforming, projectile-like blob.
Lee Sin was about to catch up with the pigeon, while the blob was on the verge of touching Lee Sin.
At this moment, an unexpected intruder appeared on the canvas.
It spread its silver-gray metallic wings, spouted orange-red flames, and emitted a tsunami-like, overwhelming roar as it flew low over the city.
This was an F/A-18, known as the “Hornet,” a supersonic fighter-attack aircraft.
Although this “Hornet,” about to return to base, wasn’t in supersonic flight mode, its speed, even in controlled low-altitude flight, was still faster than Lee Sin’s Resonating Strike.
“Shhh!”
The blob became agitated instantly.
Compared to the “slow-moving” Lee Sin, it preferred the faster iron bird soaring above.
Thus, this beast, entirely driven by instinct, immediately abandoned Lee Sin, who was within its grasp, and explosively accelerated towards the vast sky above.
“Phew…”
Lee Sin exhaled a long breath.
He knew he had survived.
With a sigh of relief, he killed the unfortunate pigeon, while the blob successfully caught up with its new, juicy prey—the “Hornet.”
Clinging tightly to the perfectly designed and meticulously crafted wing, the blob quickly caused this pinnacle of human engineering to exhibit a clumsy and powerless posture.
The “Hornet” began to lose control, and its fuselage showed severe tilting.
Of course, this had nothing to do with Lee Sin anymore.
“Sorry.”
He glanced up at the black shadow speeding above him:
“Although redirecting the danger was a bit unkind, I really had no other choice.”
“Besides…”
Lee Sin chuckled maliciously:
“As the beacon of humanity and the world’s police, it’s only right that you save people, right?”
Although only a moment had passed, the fast-flying jet had already traveled at least a hundred meters away with the blob clinging to its wing.
Lee Sin had completely left the blob’s sensing range, and the distance between them was rapidly increasing.
Then, he began to fall under the influence of gravity.
Falling from over a hundred meters wouldn’t be pleasant; Lee Sin could only hope that the health he had preserved was enough to survive, avoiding an embarrassing death by “suicide jump.”
During his fall, he suddenly noticed…
“Huh?”
“It seems I can use ‘Safeguard’ on that kid?”
Thus, just as he was about to make a hard landing on the concrete ground…
Lee Sin’s falling body abruptly veered, shooting straight towards Giorno on the ground at a seemingly impossible angle.
The translucent glow of Safeguard enveloped both Giorno and Lee Sin, allowing Lee Sin to land unharmed on the ground.
“This…”
“So, you had this ability too.”
Giorno curiously observed the gradually fading spherical shield around him but quickly refocused:
“But…”
“Is it really over?”
He looked up at the rapidly descending fighter jet, his expression serious:
“Although the jet has drawn away the blob, we don’t know if the monster can survive the crash.”
“If it survives and absorbs the energy from the jet engine like it did with the bus engine, rapidly growing stronger, then…”
“Naples could face a disaster.”
“This…”
Lee Sin didn’t rush to respond.
He quietly exited his digitalized mode and took a closer look at his new “teammate”:
Indeed, matching his youthful voice, Giorno was just a 13-year-old blond boy wearing a middle school uniform.
“This kid… being suddenly dragged into a disaster, witnessing such terrifying scenes, and experiencing the brink of life and death, yet not showing a trace of fear or anxiety…”
“And he’s not even 14 yet!”
“Giorno Giovanna… is there really a naturally born ‘protagonist’ like this in the world?”
Lee Sin marveled internally before finally addressing Giorno:
“It should be over.”
“When I considered using the jet as bait, I anticipated what might happen afterward—”
“A jet is huge and can’t be consumed immediately.”
“And this place is only a stone’s throw from the sea. The pilot would definitely steer the jet towards the ocean once realizing the plane is out of control.”
“By then…”
“I understand!”
Giorno quickly caught on without needing further explanation:
“The blob is a brainless creature that targets based on ‘movement speed,’ and the sea is full of constantly moving tides.”
“Once it’s in the sea, the monster will perpetually chase the endless waves, forever sealed in the infinite ocean.”
“Although I feel sorry for the unlucky pilot…”
“This was indeed the most sensible course of action we could take just now…”
Giorno genuinely praised.
However, just as he finished, he added another “but”:
“But…”
“How can you be so sure the plane will be steered into the sea?”
“Ah?”
Lee Sin scratched his head, puzzled:
“The shore here is Naples…”
“Would they let the plane crash into the city instead of steering it into the sea?”
…………………………………………………………………………………………….
The pilot of the “Hornet” was Lieutenant Sam from the 6th Fleet’s Roosevelt Carrier Air Wing.
He had just flown with his comrades, piloting his beloved aircraft, joyfully soaring over the Balkans across the sea.
Thanks to the overwhelming air superiority of the “Cornfield Empire,” they effortlessly tore through the enemy’s weak air defenses, unscrupulously spreading “love and justice” over the opponent’s cities.
“What a boring game.”
“Those useless guys should surrender sooner. Air-to-ground missiles are expensive—this is all taxpayers’ money!”
Patriotic Lieutenant Sam thought.
He piloted the returning jet, flying low over Naples, roaring like a tsunami, heading towards the carrier anchored at sea.
“Jennifer always worries about my safety here…”
Lieutenant Sam thought of his girlfriend back home:
“Hahaha… what’s there to worry about?”
“I’ll call her later and tell her to relax while waiting for my proposal in Texas.”
He laughed heartily, his neck turning red.
However, at that moment…
BANG!
A metallic distortion sounded from the right wing of the jet.
Without needing to look at the flashing warning indicators, Lieutenant Sam slightly tilted his head to see:
The high-strength alloy wing was deforming mid-flight!
“Holy shit!”
“Those corporate bastards, cutting corners even on fighter jets?!”
Lieutenant Sam’s face turned pale.
He desperately tried to stabilize the severely tilting and descending jet but quickly discovered something even more terrifying and bizarre:
The wing wasn’t just deforming.
It looked as if something invisible was biting it, tearing and consuming it bit by bit.
And this “invisible monster’s” tentacles extended deeper, causing the unnatural metal distortion to spread from the wingtip inward, threatening to consume the cockpit.
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”
“Motherfucker!”
Lieutenant Sam burst into a string of curses.
Even without seeing a Stand, he understood that the jet was about to disintegrate mid-air.
“The distortion is spreading towards the fuselage…”
“If this continues, even the ejection system might fail!”
“I might die!”
Taking a few extra seconds to change direction wouldn’t necessarily kill him, but this uncertainty was the most frightening part.
“But…”
Staring at the chaotic instrument panel, Lieutenant Sam faced a dilemma:
“I can’t eject yet!”
“I haven’t redirected the jet. If I bail now, it’ll crash into the city!”
In that moment, Lieutenant Sam thought of sacrifice.
He envisioned the glory of being buried under the Stars and Stripes after his death, anticipated the honor when the media hailed his name.
His beloved Jennifer and his doting parents would shed tears while the community priest read a beautiful eulogy at his funeral:
“Sam Marlis was an outstanding soldier, a true embodiment of the cornfield nation’s spirit.”
“He spread freedom and light in a foreign land under the call of justice, ultimately sacrificing his young and beautiful life to save the innocent citizens of Italy…”
“Wait…”
Lieutenant Sam suddenly realized something:
“What do the ordinary citizens of Italy have to do with me, a cornfield nation citizen?”
A second later…
The cockpit opened, and the ejection seat shot skyward.
