Lee Sin's Bizzare Adventure - Chapter 32
The taxi carrying Diavolo… no, carrying Doppio, slowly left the airport.
The taxi driver glanced at Doppio’s introverted young face through the rearview mirror and casually asked, “Young man, where are you headed?”
Doppio gave a shy smile:
“Just drive towards the coast near Mount Vesuvius. I’ll give you more specific directions when we get closer.”
“Oh, and…”
His tone suddenly became urgent: “Please drive as fast as you can.”
“My boss gave me a very important task, and I need to get there quickly.”
“Got it.”
“It’s tough working for someone else. I’ll try to speed up.”
The driver nodded cheerfully and slightly increased the throttle.
The taxi accelerated through the bustling city streets, moving noticeably faster.
Doppio casually looked out the window at the ever-changing bustling scenery, nervously muttering to himself:
“The boss told me to find a bald guy there… but what does this bald guy look like?”
“When I get there, will the boss contact me again?”
He felt anxious about the important task he carried, completely unaware that the boss he revered was actually “himself.”
Meanwhile…
As Doppio unconsciously gazed out of the window, he unexpectedly noticed a peculiar sight on the roadside:
“A stone?”
“Why is there a stone on the side of this street?”
Amid the lively hustle and bustle of the street, there was a pumpkin-sized round stone, standing out among the passersby.
This stone had a rough, unpolished surface, and if not for the large character “?” (ominous) carved into it, it would look like a piece of junk moved from some desolate mountain.
Placed in such a lively street, it seemed completely out of place.
Doppio instinctively found it odd, but the taxi was moving fast, and he didn’t have time to take a closer look before the strange stone was out of sight.
However, about half a minute later, as the taxi drove onto another street…
He saw another stone identical to the first one.
“Another stone on the roadside?”
“Who’s so bored as to place these useless stones on the road?”
Doppio found it increasingly strange. Then…
“Ring ring, ring ring, ring ring ring ring~”
“Ring ring, ring ring, ring ring ring ring~”
This seemingly normal pink-haired boy suddenly behaved as if he had lost his mind… mimicking the sound of a phone ringing with his mouth while talking to himself:
“Huh?”
“Where is that phone ringing?”
“Ring ring, ring ring, ring ring ring ring~”
“Uh?”
The driver, startled by the bizarre behavior, asked with concern and fear:
“Hey, young man, what’s wrong?”
“Why are you suddenly making such weird noises?”
Doppio ignored the driver’s concerned and frightened inquiry.
He hurriedly rummaged through his briefcase, eventually grabbing a wallet and putting it to his ear as if it were a phone:
“Hello?”
“Boss, is that you!”
Doppio spoke into the non-existent phone, conversing with Diavolo.
Though they were the same person, Diavolo and Doppio could communicate through this bizarre method.
“Doppio.”
Diavolo’s voice echoed directly in his mind:
“You need to be careful.”
“The enemy is likely nearby.”
“What?”
Doppio spoke aloud, seeming to talk to a wallet from an outsider’s perspective:
“The enemy is nearby?”
“Could it be… that stone I saw earlier?!”
“Exactly.”
Diavolo’s voice in his mind was serious:
“A large stone appearing out of place on a busy street would draw anyone’s attention, right?”
“But none of the passersby noticed it, as if the stone didn’t exist.”
“Clearly, this is…”
“A Stand attack!”
Doppio gripped the wallet tightly, his face turning grave:
“Ordinary people can’t see Stands, so only I noticed the stone!”
“So, what do I do?”
His tone became panicked:
“Boss, will you help me?”
“Of course, I’ll help you, my dear Doppio.”
Diavolo soothed his other self, then commanded him like a tool:
“But with the enemy’s identity and position still uncertain, it’s inconvenient for me to show up.”
“So, you’ll have to deal with this enemy for now.”
“Don’t worry…”
“I’ll lend you my future-predicting ‘Epitaph’. You can handle it.”
Doppio, the secondary personality, was Diavolo’s last line of defense in hiding his true identity.
Unless he could guarantee his safety and ensure that anyone who saw his true identity was silenced, Diavolo would never reveal his true form.
So, with the mysterious enemy not yet visible, he chose to let Doppio take action.
“Understood…”
Doppio seriously accepted the task given by his boss.
Simultaneously, a small face, invisible to ordinary people, gradually emerged on his forehead under his pink bangs—this was the sign of “Epitaph,” the ability of King Crimson.
“That stone… will it appear again?”
Doppio focused intently on observing the scenery outside the car window, wary of the stone’s reappearance.
Then, the stone did reappear.
But this time, it wasn’t on the roadside but… inside the moving taxi.
Yes, without Doppio noticing, the stone silently appeared on the back seat, just inches away from him.
“Damn it!”
Seeing the stone just half a meter away, Doppio felt a chill down his spine.
“Epitaph!”
Doppio immediately activated his only usable ability, peering into the potential actions of the enemy in the next few seconds.
First second.
The rough-looking round stone suddenly quivered oddly.
Second second.
The stone, moving firmly and slowly, inched closer to Doppio.
Third second.
Doppio instinctively kicked the approaching stone.
Fourth second.
Doppio died.
He died silently, like an old man peacefully passing away.
“What?!”
Both Doppio, currently in control, and Diavolo, lurking in his mind, were startled by the terrifying future they saw:
“Touching this stone means death!”
“I need to… get away from it…”
“Stay away from me!!”
Like a frightened rabbit encountering a predator, Doppio jumped from the back seat to the front passenger seat.
The driver, focused on driving, was pushed so hard by Doppio that he nearly lost control of the steering wheel and crashed:
“Hey!”
“Why did you jump to the front seat suddenly? Are you crazy?!”
The driver shouted at Doppio in fear while instinctively hitting the brakes.
Meanwhile, the stone, unaffected by inertia, continued its slow, steady movement towards the front seat.
“Boss, what do I do…”
“Touching it means death. How do I fight back?”
“Should I run?”
Doppio nervously asked the “phone” about Diavolo.
“Don’t be afraid.”
Diavolo’s voice was calm:
“So far, this stone’s only strange feature is its deadly touch. Its destructive power and speed aren’t impressive.”
“You don’t need to run. Just try to destroy it.”
“Destroy it?”
“But…”
Doppio looked around for a suitable tool, doubtful:
“I can’t touch the stone directly, and I don’t have a weapon…”
“Who says you don’t?”
Diavolo coldly rebuked:
“My dear Doppio…”
“Look beside you, the driver—”
“Human skulls are harder than most stones. Isn’t that weapon enough?”
