- Chapter 79 - The Thunder God Is Dead! Wait, I Think He Got Back Up!
Anyway, Fanny didn’t want anyone to do weird things in his name. Followers and believers like these won’t do him any good.
Moreover, these people worshipped ‘Divine Punishment.’ This kind of destructive faith would only get in the way of his attempt to save the world. Hell, wouldn’t it conversely try to destroy the world?!
Might as well let Thanos come here!
Fanny continued on his way to the school, carrying his irritation.
Billy immediately intercepted him again when Fanny arrived, making him wonder if this classmate of his had lost interest in women after getting dumped last time. Why would he pester him otherwise?!
Fanny involuntarily shivered in fear. He kept a vigilant watch over Billy and kept a certain distance.
Billy didn’t know nor care what Fanny was thinking. He excitedly showed Fanny the piece of paper in his hand. “Fanny, I’m planning to build a fan club for ‘Knight of Divine Punishment.’ Do you want to join?”
“What?” Fanny was stunned, speechless.
“It’s just like any other club,” Billy explained, “The daily activity would consist of gathering and sharing information about the Knight of Divine Punishment. If he ever needs help, we would gather our strength to help him. The ultimate goal is to meet and talk to him!”
“You’ve met and talked to him every day!”
Fanny silently rolled his eyes in his heart and asked with a headache, “Why do you want to build this fan club?”
“I learned about the Church of Divine Punishment. I don’t really like what they’re doing, but there wasn’t any alternative. That’s why I want to build one myself.”
“The school won’t agree,” Fanny replied expressionlessly. The establishment of a school club wasn’t such a casual matter. Nobody would sign off on this kind of thing.
“No, the school already agreed. They even assigned us a special activity classroom. We already had seven members that confirmed to join; Fanny, you should join too,” Billy said excitedly.
Obviously, Fanny never expected it to be so simple.
“Is there no sane person left in this school’s faculty?” Fanny blurted out.
What could be the point of this kind of club?!
Fanny had no idea what the school faculty was doing, but he decided to give up on the matter. He leaned on the table and replied weakly, “I’m not interested in him.”
“C’mon.” Billy obviously didn’t want to give up his best friend. He whispered, “A lot of girls already joined. Come with us; I’ll make you a Vice-President.”
This tiny perk was obviously not enough to sway Fanny’s mind. He glanced at Billy, who was practically begging him, and firmly refused, “No. This fan club has no future.”
Billy was enraged. He slapped the table and half-shouted, “Fanny, I don’t care if you insult me, but you can’t insult my idol, Knight of Divine Punishment!”
“How about you think of it as your idol insulting you?” Fanny asked, bemused. He ignored Billy’s anger; it was not like their friendship would be broken from such a small disagreement.
“My idol could never insult me!” Billy proudly raised his head. It was unknown whether he meant that his idol was incapable of insulting anyone—or that he was not worthy of his idol’s insult.
“Hehe!”
Billy had no idea that his ‘idol’ was insulting him right there and then.
Fanny’s circular sarcasm finally made Billy give up on inviting him, but Billy continued his effort to recruit others. Fanny sighed silently.
What expression would Billy make when Fanny exposed his identity one day?
The rest of the school experience was dull and boring, as usual. Fanny prepared to return home after finishing the morning classes; no lesson was scheduled for that afternoon. He wanted to help Skye continue her training.
A phone call interrupted his plans. Fanny frowned when he saw the caller ID.
“Hello?”
Fanny picked up the call on an empty corner.
“The Thunder God is dead!” Nick Fury’s voice from the phone was cold and calm, but Fanny was utterly shocked by what he said.
“What? How is this possible?!” Fanny panicked. Thor was dead. What about the future Avengers? What about Asgard? What happens if Loki loses his brother?!
“He was killed by a steel robot,” Nick Fury explained curtly.
“Ah!”
Fanny had a moment of epiphany and sighed in relief. Nick Fury’s voice returned from the phone, this time shocked and surprised, “Wait, I think he just got up again.”
A few seconds later, Nick Fury continued, “Alright, it seems fine now. Keep your phone on standby.”
Nick hung up the phone after that, leaving Fanny with his irritation. He could already guess what was going on.
If nothing went wrong, Loki should’ve sent the Destroyer, which momentarily sent Thor unconscious. Thor would then break through Odin’s seal, allowing him to regain his divine power.
Nick Fury must’ve watched the battle in real time and contacted Fanny out of panic the moment he saw something alarming.
Fanny was still annoyed, despite knowing what had happened. He felt that Nick Fury had treated him too much like a subordinate.
“Let’s make him understand not to casually call me next time.”
Fanny silently thought to correct Nick Fury’s stance against him. He was an external consultant, not an Avenger.
Nick Fury’s call gave Fanny insight into how far along he was on the original plot and how much (or little) it had deviated. He was a little worried about this progression.
The knowledge about Asgard would lead Nick Fury to restart the research on the Tesseract, which contained the Space Stone. This would attract Thanos’ attention to Earth.
Warning Nick Furry to stop meddling with the Tesseract seems almost impossible for Fanny.
Even if Nick verbally agreed to stop his research, he would just continue it in secret. That’s how a secret organization operates. The other solution would be stealing the Tesseract, but that would lead to a breakdown in the relationship between Fanny and SHIELD.
With his identity recently exposed, if such a breakdown occurs, Hydra would definitely get involved. The three-way battle would plunge the world into chaos.
And if Thanos invaded Earth during such a moment, he wouldn’t need the infinity stones to kill half of the Earth population.
Fanny sighed; worries filled his heart. All kinds of internal and external problem plague this planet. It’s not easy living here.
Nick Fury called again right after Fanny returned home. He deliberately ignored the call for half a day. There wouldn’t be anything he could do if Thor actually died anyway.
“Why did you take so long to answer?” Nick Fury’s voice was irritated.
“Ah, I never promised that I would pick up your call,” Fanny sneered. “Director Fury, we are business partners, not superior and subordinate. I don’t need to listen to your orders.”
Nick Fury went silent for a moment before reluctantly continuing, “They had left. They probably used the Bifrost you mentioned.”
“Isn’t that good? You’ll have more things to worry about if they had stayed,” Fanny replied lazily.
