- Chapter 92 - I Don't. I Don't Know Him. Don't Speak Nonsense.
“It’s fine; just say it if you don’t know. Don’t make such a trashy excuse that even a fool won’t believe,” Billy continued with a sagely expression.
He then looked around and whispered closer to Fanny, “Do you know him or not? I heard that the Knight of Divine Punishment appeared at the ground of the incident not long after you left in a hurry yesterday. I promise I won’t tell anyone!”
Fanny just looked at Billy expressionlessly, glanced at the table, and then looked at his friend’s mouth. He wondered if this table would really fit in Billy’s mouth.
Fortunately, ‘Ars Magna’ didn’t suddenly activate to answer that question.
Billy was blissfully unaware of the terrible threshold that he had almost crossed. He was still thinking about the same thing he had spent the last night wondering. Fanny wasn’t the kind of person who would skip classes for fun, yet there had been two such abnormal incidents. Fanny would disappear moments before the Knight of Divine Punishment appeared. It was too much of a coincidence.
Billy initially also considered if Fanny was actually Knight of Divine Punishment, but he rejected that thought. As Fanny’s best friend, he really couldn’t imagine that Fanny was the Knight of Divine Punishment.
Especially after hearing Fanny’s own ‘confession’ right now, Billy was absolutely certain that Fanny couldn’t be Knight of Divine Punishment.
However, Billy was sure that Fanny at least knew how to contact Knight of Divine Punishment.
“Really, I swear to God that I will never tell anyone else.”
Fanny finally spoke after hearing Billy’s solemn vow, “Heh, do you think I didn’t know that you don’t believe in God? What could your vow be worth?
“You swore that you’d blow up the head of that dog that became Winry’s new boyfriend. I saw his head still attached to his neck the other day.”
“This is different!” Billy replied in embarrassment. Winry was a girl that Billy had a crush on, but another man beat him to become her boyfriend. He was so angry that he repeatedly swore in front of Fanny to blow up the son of a bitch’s head.
“How is it different?” Fanny squinted at Billy, waiting for an excuse.
“I didn’t say when I would blow it up!” Billy blurted after thinking for a while.
“…”
Fanny looked at Billy speechlessly. He waved his hand impatiently and said, “I just had something urgent coming up yesterday. How could I know Knight of Divine Punishment?”
Billy looked at Fanny skeptically and pushed on, “I won’t ask you about his identity. I just want to know a few simple questions.”
“For example?!” Fanny was a little curious about what Billy wanted to know.
“Which one of these do you think he will answer?” Billy excitedly summoned a notebook from thin air and opened a full page of questions. Fanny’s jaw dropped.
Fanny glanced at the list and saw that some of the questions were relatively basic. One of them was simply asking whether the Knight of Divine Punishment liked the color silver.
But some of them were rather… exotic. For example, can the armor be washed? Does the armor need to be repaired after a battle? What material was the armor made of? How heavy was the armor? Etc.
“How is it? Do you think he will answer these questions?”
Billy looked at Fanny, expectant. He had thought about all these questions on the list for the whole night after deducing that Fanny knew Knight of Divine Punishment. That was why there were two dark circles around his eyes.
“I think you are really bored!” Fanny closed the notebook and handed it back.
“You should be able to answer some of them, right?”
Billy laid his head on the table in frustration. He turned his head and stared at Fanny, whispering, “Fanny, how do you know Knight of Divine Punishment?”
“I don’t. I don’t know him. Don’t talk nonsense.”
Fanny didn’t push the truth about being the Knight of Divine Punishment after Billy denied him. It was easier than convincing Billy with the excuses he had prepared, and it had saved the school from losing a table.
“Hey!”
Humans are very subjective and stubborn people. Some people already made up their minds even with incomplete information, and they won’t budge from their conclusion no matter what proof you bring them.
Billy was one such person. Fanny’s ambiguous answer made him firmly believe that Fanny only knew Knight of Divine Punishment, not Knight of Divine Punishment himself.
“Sigh, how good would it be if I knew him!” Billy looked at Fanny with an envious and jealous expression and complained, “I don’t know what kind of dog shit luck you got to be recognized by this kind of existence.”
Fanny was stunned again. What kind of dog shit luck would he need to know about himself?!
“Alright, don’t worry about this. Class is about to start.”
Fanny wasn’t worried that Billy would blabber about this issue. There wasn’t any shortage of people who knew about him and his identity all across New York.
Even if Billy went to spill the secrets, he would only attract ridicule if he didn’t have any concrete evidence. The same with saying that Fanny personally knew Knight of Divine Punishment; nobody would take him seriously as long as Fanny played along.
The rest of that afternoon was torture for Fanny. Billy kept pestering him about the Knight of Divine Punishment in a roundabout way.
Endlessly in every class!
Fanny could only breathe a sigh of relief after he left school. At least for the next two days, his ears wouldn’t suffer Billy’s ceaseless nagging.
Skye was still seriously practicing by the time he got home. The equipment she received had helped her sharpen the control and precision of her shockwave ability.
Fanny did not disturb her. He simply packed up and opened a portal for his own training.
Fighting with Hulk had made him realize his limit. If they fought seriously, Hulk wouldn’t beat him only because the green giant couldn’t fly: he couldn’t defeat Hulk either.
Experience gains are maximized through winning a fight. It wouldn’t be easy to make the battle-obsessed Hulk admit defeat through trickery.
Moreover, trickery could only get him so far. Fanny wanted to defeat the obstacles before him with his true strength, subjugating them fair and square.
There should be a little lull in New York after the Abomination crisis. The next big threat would be when Loki opened the portal to space and brought down Thanos’ army.
Fanny hoped to extract the sixth or even seventh skill before that. He wanted to be strong enough to beat Thanos off the planet if he dared to descend.
The day passed quickly, and Fanny visited Banner the next day.
“How’s it going?” Fanny asked casually at the villa. The refreshed Banner actually looked like someone with seven doctorates instead of a dirty street beggar.
“The life of a rich person is really extravagant,” Banner said with a bitter smile. He didn’t have much time or resources to enjoy life during his years of hiding, so the sudden change in environment made him a little uncomfortable.
“That guy wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s just how he is.”
Fanny spread out his hands. If Tony could use the best one, he would not use anything less. In any case, to him, any problem that could be solved with money was not a problem.
