Marvel Infinity Talent - Chapter 242
The cosmic upheaval and slaughter taking place were unknown to Wang Yan. He focused solely on the Chthon before him. Compared to the gods he had previously encountered, Chthon truly embodied the essence of a god, seemingly on an entirely different level.
Though all gods should be comparable, Chthon appeared vastly superior. However, there was a better time for such contemplation. Chthon stood before him, and despite Wang Yan’s efforts to attack, Chthon’s divine power seemed infinite. Any damage inflicted on Chthon was swiftly healed, making it clear that an attrition strategy was futile.
Wang Yan continued to gather his strength, ready to counter Chthon’s next move. Dark divine energy coalesced around Chthon in the cosmos, gradually causing chaos and negative energy that affected the universe to subside. However, the pressure on Wang Yan intensified, becoming almost unbearable.
Even in the distant S.W.O.R.D. headquarters, the agents felt the suffocating pressure despite the protective magical barrier surrounding Earth. They could hardly imagine the immense pressure Wang Yan was enduring.
Chthon, now radiating immense dark energy, looked at Wang Yan with renewed confidence. “Sorcerer, I must admit, your strength exceeds my expectations, but you are no god,” Chthon declared. “You may not have understood my meaning earlier, but do you now? This universe may have changed since my time, but my power remains unquestionable. The universe remains constant, and I am as powerful as ever!”
As Chthon’s body glowed with countless lights, he waved his hand, causing the void to tremble as if space itself was ignited, turning into a hellish inferno. “Do you think the dark magic recorded in the Darkhold is all my power? Behold the Death Ray!”
Chthon raised a finger, and a dark light, so intense it almost turned white, gathered at his fingertip. Even before it was released, Wang Yan felt a chill run down his spine. The aura was terrifying, reminiscent of facing one of the five primordial entities.
Wang Yan summoned his powerful magical shield, the Seraphim’s Shield, enveloping himself in its protective wings. As the Death Ray struck, the shield turned black. “System, detected Death Ray fragment, initiate fusion?” the system prompted. “Warning: This powerful dark magic may result in a failed fusion!”
Wang Yan was taken aback; this was the first time a fusion had a chance of failure. Nonetheless, he decided to attempt it. “Fuse!”
Instantly, a vision of a woman, representing death, appeared in his mind. Was it Hela, the Goddess of Death?
A buzzing sound followed. “Fusion failed. However, some immunity to death energy has been acquired.”
Wang Yan sighed; the fusion had failed. Still, there were benefits. The Seraphim’s Shield, now partially immune to death energy, began to recover, resisting the dark invasion. Chthon, expecting a decisive kill, was shocked. He had used the Death Ray, mimicking the power of Hela, the Goddess of Death. Though not as potent as Hela’s original power, it was still solid.
“How can you be unharmed?” Chthon exclaimed. “No being below a god should withstand my attack!”
He raised his hand, conjuring an even more powerful Death Ray, which he launched at Wang Yan. This time, the Seraphim’s Shield, having already developed immunity, withstood the attack more easily, recovering quickly and maintaining its integrity.
Chthon was dumbfounded. Twice now, his attack had failed to break through Wang Yan’s shield. “Impossible!” he muttered, struggling to comprehend how a mortal could thwart his devastating magic.
Chthon’s hand radiated an intense black light as he prepared a more potent attack. The black light, now massive, enveloped Wang Yan and the Seraphim’s Shield entirely. Chthon believed this time, he would surely succeed.
Inside the shield, Wang Yan felt the overwhelming force. Though the shield had evolved multiple times, the attack posed a significant challenge. However, he trusted in the shield’s enhanced strength to protect him.
“System, detected Death Ray fragment, initiate fusion?” “Fuse!” Wang Yan commanded.
With the third attempt, the image of the deathly woman in his mind grew clearer but then vanished. “Fusion successful. Enhanced immunity to death energy, increased defensive power.”
The Seraphim’s Shield turned pure white, more vital than ever. It absorbed the dark energy, becoming more robust. Chthon, anticipating victory, was stunned. His most concentrated attack had failed once again.
“How can this be?” Chthon questioned, unable to accept that his powerful magic seemed to scratch Wang Yan’s defences merely.
