Marvel: Randomly Load a Protagonist Template - Chapter 59
……
“It seems Mary Jane’s death wasn’t all bad.”
Seeing Peter agree so readily, Hawking nodded to himself, then started to console him:
“Peter, don’t be sad. Trust me, you will meet a girl more suited for you in the future.”
If he remembered correctly, Peter would meet Gwen Stacy in college—a genius girl who appreciated him for his academic skills, fair-skinned, beautiful, and the daughter of the New York police chief. She seemed more suitable for Peter than Mary Jane.
He wanted to tell Peter the next one would be better, but it wasn’t the right time.
“I guess not,” Peter said, looking somewhat bleak.
“By the way, didn’t you mention there was a girl at your school who had a crush on you?”
Hawking suddenly remembered the first time he went to Midtown High to find Peter.
Peter quickly waved his hands:
“A girl at school has a crush on me? Impossible, impossible.”
He had only one friend at school, Harry, and the girls called him a “nerd.” They didn’t like his type at all; they preferred someone like Flash, the star of the sports team.
Hawking laughed:
“Who says? Be confident. I remember she seemed to be called Jessica, a skinny girl with black hair.”
“Do you mean Jessica Campbell? She hasn’t been to school for over a month now. I heard from a teacher that she was in a car accident and is in the hospital,” Peter responded incredulously.
Hawking was momentarily stunned:
“It can’t be that, Jessica, can it?”
He faintly remembered that in the TV series, Jessica—named Jessica Jones—had gained super strength from being exposed to radioactive chemicals due to a car accident as a child. However, this girl was undoubtedly called Jessica Jones, and there was no mention of her being Peter’s high school classmate.
“Let’s visit her sometime; if it is her, we could invite her over.”
Jessica Jones’s powers seemed to match Peter’s; she could even fly, though she was susceptible to mental manipulation.
“Since you don’t want to rest, let’s go. Today, our target is Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan!”
After a month of training, their teamwork became very coordinated, and Peter finally learned to use pole flight under Hawking’s guidance, though his version was slightly different.
“Target, Central Park in Manhattan!”
Hawking removed an adamantium rod from his pocket, removed the shrinking spell to return it to its original size, and then cast a spell to enlarge it.
He adjusted its position, threw the adamantium rod forcefully, and in a flash, he was already standing on the rod.
Since he couldn’t use the Seamless Extension Charm to create a space bag, he temporarily used the enlargement and shrinking spells as substitutes.
The downside was that, unlike the Seamless Extension Charm, it couldn’t be maintained permanently; he had to reapply the magic every three hours or so, or it would revert to its original size.
However, once his mental strength improved, or he studied these two spells further, he could maintain it for days, months, or even years without reverting.
Meanwhile, Peter found his usual practice log and threw it too, but he couldn’t catch up with it as quickly as Hawking, nor could he stabilize himself on it as adeptly.
But he had his advantage—his web-shooters.
So, as his log flew, his web-shooter fired, sticking to the log.
Thus, the scene in the air looked like this:
Both riding side by side, Hawking stood on the pole looking quite sophisticated, while Peter, clinging to his web, was dragged through the air by the log, looking rather poignant.
“Boom! Boom!”
Both landed in the dirt. Hawking flipped and landed smoothly while Peter quickly shot out more webs to a nearby tree, stopping the downward momentum to prevent being driven into the ground with the log.
Hawking’s powers were developed slowly over three years, allowing precise control and easy use.
Peter’s powers, derived from a spider totem, appeared suddenly one night; naturally, he couldn’t control them yet, needing time to polish and familiarise himself with them.
“Tremble, Hell’s Kitchen scum!”
In the night, Hawking led Peter Parker on their first descent into the infamous Hell’s Kitchen, kicking off a new sweep.
This time, they weren’t facing the usual petty thugs and robbers but some of the world’s most potent and formidable gang members.
Of course, that was only a concern for ordinary people. It was similar for the equally cunning and powerful Hawking and his protege Spider-Man.
“Hawking, two groups are firing at each other on the street, and many bystanders are hurt. They all have guns!”
“I’m on my way!”
Hearing Peter’s voice mixed with gunshots over the communicator, Hawking waved away the last two guards, launched a blast wave that blew open the iron door, and freed a group of girls who were imprisoned and about to be smuggled abroad.
That night, he felt he had earned significantly more justice points than he had previously in Queens.
The next day, when he woke up and opened his computer, he found some new reports about him:
“Explosive News! Hell’s Kitchen will be no more!
Recent reports state that Iron Man and Spider-Man, frequently active in Queens, were seen last night in Hell’s Kitchen. Does this mark the end…”
“Exploration Aerospace’s Test Site 6 explodes, numerous executives and generals, including General Slocum, killed, plans for a humanoid exoskeleton armor project shelved, stock prices fall…”
“Is this Green Goblin’s doing?”
Looking at this news, Hawking fell into deep thought.
He remembered that General Slocum, the newly appointed, was not in favor of OsCorp’s human enhancement drugs and glider wings, planning to unilaterally terminate the treaty in favor of supporting Exploration Aerospace’s exoskeleton armor project, which angered Norman Osborn.
Norman Osborn, having injected himself with an imperfect human enhancement serum, suffered a split personality, with his evil side taking over.
The evil persona, controlling Osborn as the Green Goblin on his glider, directly bombed several top figures at Exploration Aerospace and General Slocum, thereby saving the orders for OsCorp.
“Then let’s meet this Green Goblin!”
He wasn’t planning to punish the Green Goblin but was considering a partnership.
In his view, although the Green Goblin emerged due to the imperfect serum, causing an evil personality, he was merely trying to expand OsCorp and eliminate a few competitors.
For him, eliminating the Green Goblin might yield fewer justice points than taking down a minor gang boss.
Instead, if there was a chance to collaborate with the Green Goblin, it could greatly assist his plans to establish an International Hero Alliance and utilize Green Goblin’s scientific abilities to develop a gravity room sooner.
Of course, eliminating him would still be an option if the other party was unwilling.
