- Chapter 67 - Welcome To League Of Legend
This is no big deal; Hawking can afford the minor losses. The trio now enjoys celebrity status, and taking time out for advertisements and endorsements can bring in significant money.
Additionally, Oscorp Industries has transformed to produce various merchandise like clothing and dolls bearing the trio’s likeness, yielding high profits.
If all else fails, Hawking could simply cast a repair spell himself. He could enhance the spell’s effects if the damage is too severe by loading a Harry Potter template.
“Do you guys have a plan for the rescue?”
On the way there, Peter shouted from behind.
Jessica turned back, looking puzzled at Peter:
“That’s easy. We board the plane, take out the terrorists, and then drag the plane down. It’s just like Superman does in the comics!”
“That won’t work. Superman can emit a force field to protect the plane, which we can’t do. Also, there’s no solid footing in the air, and even if you two could fly and support the plane, it would still disintegrate, and the passengers wouldn’t survive.”
As a genius college student, Peter understood this introductory physics.
Some things can’t be taken for granted; otherwise, they could do more harm than good.
“Peter is right. We need to think more about how we save people in the future. But don’t worry, I have a solution,” Hawking chimed in, laughing at the conversation between the two.
Compared to Jessica, Peter was much more reliable, generally completing missions successfully without causing damage, which Jessica tended to do less consistently.
Based on the news report, the trio quickly located the plane flying towards New York over the sea.
“Alohomora!”
When they flew level with the plane’s door, Hawking instantly unlocked and opened the door with a spell, and the three of them entered the plane and quickly subdued the gunmen holding the passengers hostage.
“Spider-Man, Gold Flash, Flying Valkyrie!”
Seeing the trio appear, the passengers screamed and started snapping pictures with their phones.
They were more famous and popular than many Hollywood stars, helping the police fight crime, doing ads, endorsements, glamorous photo shoots, and various commercial promotions.
Iron Man, once dismissed by Wanda, had changed his name to “Gold Flash” when the company was established.
To the public, the name didn’t matter; it was all the same person.
However, just as Hawking and the others had dealt with the four terrorists in the cabin, several gunshots suddenly came from the cockpit.
Hawking quickly led Peter and Jessica into the cockpit.
Inside, they found the pilot and co-pilot had been shot dead, and the last terrorist had committed suicide.
The more significant issue was that the last terrorist had damaged the plane’s control panel, was now smoking, and obviously could not operate normally.
“What do we do?” Jessica frowned upon seeing the situation.
“No problem, reparo!”
Hawking cast a spell to repair the control panel perfectly, then asked Peter:
“Do you know how to fly a plane?”
“No, I can only try to use the auxiliary systems to maintain its current flight path.”
Peter immediately shook his head. While he was good at academics, that didn’t mean he could pilot a plane; that required professional skills.
“Jessica, go calm the passengers. Peter uses the intercom to contact the control tower and inform them of the situation. Tell them to prepare a pilot who can fly the plane; I’ll bring him over.”
Hawking quickly instructed Peter and Jessica, then left the cabin door.
He could have used a shrinking spell to reduce all passengers in size and take them out of the plane, but that would have caused damage and wouldn’t have looked good. Besides, casting over two hundred shrinking spells would be exhausting.
As for the two pilots who were killed, there was nothing he could do about that. He wasn’t a god; he couldn’t save everyone every time. Save who he could, and if he couldn’t, it wasn’t a big problem.
If any criticism arose, they could let Green Goblin’s PR team handle it. They were very skilled at this.
Many things just need a change of perspective to generate a different public response; it’s all about how you present it.
It’s like asking a priest if you can smoke while praying and confessing. He definitely would disagree, but if you tell him you want to pray and confess while you’re smoking, the priest’s answer might be different.
The same situation, expressed differently, can have entirely different effects. That’s the power of public relations.
“Whoosh!”
Hawking fully activated his energy, increasing his Levitation spell to the maximum speed, and quickly reached the agreed control tower.
He had mastered Levitation four months ago, but even with his current strength, flying at full power was slower than using Nimbus.
Moreover, he would only fly at full speed if necessary because it was too exhausting!
With his current battle power of less than two hundred, he couldn’t compare to Goku during the Saiyan Saga. His energy was limited.
When Raditz attacked, even Goku, with a power level of just over nine hundred, preferred to fly on Nimbus because it was faster than his Levitation technique and didn’t consume any of his internal energy.
“This pilot is willing to help!”
Hawking had just made a superhero landing, and several sheriffs brought an elderly man, who appeared to be in his fifties, up to him quickly.
“Sir, don’t be nervous. The plane has been fixed. You just need to control it to land normally.”
He reassured the somewhat nervous old man, used a shrinking spell to make him small enough to fit in his hand for protection, and then quickly flew back to the plane over international waters.
“This is amazing!”
The surrounding police, staff, and reporters were somewhat stunned to see someone being shrunk to the size of a palm; such an ability had never been heard of before.
Once back on the plane, Hawking reversed the shrinking spell on the pilot, and soon, under the skilled control of the pilot, the aircraft entered a typical flight path and landed smoothly at the nearest airport.
Cheers from the crowd greeted them, and flashes from cameras.
Already accustomed to this, Peter and Jessica immediately started working with Hawking to increase the company’s influence, helping more people recognize them and facilitating their operations. This was a strategy Hawking had set from the beginning, and he always led by example, so they had no reason to refuse.
And since they were wearing masks and hoods, no one knew their identities, so it didn’t matter.
“Gold Flash, do you have any comments about this operation?”
Looking at Eddie squeezing in front, Hawking picked up his microphone and spoke to the camera:
“Although everyone was saved, I am deeply saddened because when we arrived, the pilot and co-pilot had already been killed by terrorists.
Therefore, I sincerely hope the government can cooperate further with our company to notify us immediately when incidents occur so tragedies can be prevented.
Lastly, to those on Earth with unique abilities, if you want to join our great cause, please come to xxx Street, xxx number for an interview selection. We welcome you to join the League of Heroes!”
