Marvel: Randomly Load a Protagonist Template - Chapter 72
“Oh, God, what in the world are you?!”
Eddie watched as his arms were covered by a black, unidentifiable creature, uncontrollably steering his motorcycle wildly through the streets, pursued relentlessly by a dozen cars and several drones.
He could occasionally feel bullets whizzing past him, with shells exploding right beside him.
His mind was in utter disarray.
As a lead reporter for the Daily Bugle, famous for his reports on a golden warrior, and later through connections provided by his boss’s boss, he had gained entry into the International Avengers HQ for an exclusive interview with three superheroes.
Since then, he has been a notable figure in New York’s journalism circles.
A few days ago, a female doctor approached him with news that the infamous Life Foundation was secretly capturing homeless people for cruel human experiments, hoping he would expose their misdeeds.
For a journalist, this was a scoop to be noticed.
Thus, filled with excitement, he followed the doctor and stealthily infiltrated the Life Foundation’s headquarters, hoping to capture some evidence and make a groundbreaking revelation that would shock New York.
Everything went smoothly until, just as they were about to wrap up, he was unexpectedly parasitized by an alien organism resembling black goo in the laboratory.
This blew his cover and led to a frantic chase by the Life Foundation.
Even as he made it to the city streets, they relentlessly pursued him.
“It’s over, it’s over, I’m going to die!”
At some point, a Life Foundation vehicle had managed to cut him off, and a bald man inside sarcastically pulled out an RPG and aimed it at him.
“Boom!”
The motorcycle was blown up by a rocket.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you die!”
Once again, Eddie heard the alien creature’s voice in his head, and then his entire body was enveloped and transformed into a nearly three-meter-tall, muscular, fanged humanoid monster.
At this point, the alien organism took complete control of his body.
With a mighty leap just before the explosion, Venom propelled Eddie up and grabbed a streetlamp, swinging into a nearby alley.
The Life Foundation’s drones and pursuers followed him closely.
“You lovely little snacks, just right to fill up my Venom’s belly.”
In the alley, Venom stopped fleeing and instead turned around, extending his long tongue and fangs, roaring.
Cars halted, and Life Foundation personnel emerged, drawing weapons and opening fire on Venom.
The bullets hitting Venom merely caused ripples of black liquid to splash up before falling harmlessly to the ground, utterly failing to penetrate his defenses.
“Primitive weapons!”
Venom’s arms stretched like rubber, each hand seizing a person from the front line, pulling them close as if they were mere chicks.
“Heart, liver, spleen, and lungs all look good, but I still prefer eating heads!”
In an instant, the heads of the two men in his hands were devoured.
“Oh, hell, this is too delicious.”
“Die, monster, rat-tat-tat-tat!”
Seeing Venom devour the brains of two of their comrades, the Life Foundation personnel began to retreat in terror while still firing wildly.
Just then, strands of webbing shot down from above the alley, pinning both the Life Foundation people and Venom against the wall—it was Spider-Man, Peter, who had acted after reporting to Hawking.
“Avengers Spider-Man, please cease your current actions immediately, and do not make any other aggressive moves!” Peter called out as he flipped down from the air.
According to the first rule of being a superhero, upon discovering a crime, do not announce yourself like a police officer before acting; neutralize the threat first while they’re unaware, then proceed with the warnings.
“Rip!”
Venom, stuck to the wall, forcibly tore through Peter’s sticky webbing and fell to the ground.
“Interesting, your body looks quite good, probably tastier than the others!”
“What exactly are you?”
Peter’s face turned serious as he watched Venom quickly tear through his webbing. During his time at the company, he had seen many mutants come in for interviews with odd appearances, but Venom was a horror he had never encountered before.
“I’m not a ‘thing,’ I am Venom!”
Venom punched Peter, who quickly raised his arms to block.
However, despite Peter’s strength being equivalent to several tons, Venom outmatched him in sheer power and sent him flying back. Only Peter’s quick reflexes allowed him to shoot a web at a wall and swing back into action.
“What terrifying strength!”
Perched on the alley’s wall, Peter was shocked by Venom’s power. Apart from Hawking, he had never seen anyone with such formidable strength.
Seeing Peter unharmed, Venom immediately leaped to continue the attack.
But at that moment, Eddie, enveloped inside Venom, began to resist:
“Don’t hurt him, he’s a good guy.”
“Alright, then let’s leave this place!”
Sensing his host’s resistance, Venom relented and turned to devour two more heads to replenish his strength before leaving.
“Roar!!!!”
Just as he turned, a tremendous roar from above dazed him, leaving him weak and forcing him back into host Eddie’s body.
With Venom subdued, the floating Hawking ceased his loud shouting.
It turned out that upon receiving Peter’s call, Hawking had rushed over, and upon seeing Venom below, he amplified his voice with a sonic spell and roared at him.
Venom, an alien symbiote, is nearly immune to most physical and energy attacks, potentially developing strength up to a horrifying 200 tons.
However, it also has several critical weaknesses: it cannot survive long without a host and has a severe aversion to loud sounds and fire.
Its personality and thoughts are influenced mainly by its first host.
Thus, upon spotting Venom, Hawking’s immediate response was to intimidate it with sonic magic.
He had thought Venom would arrive on Earth years later when Peter was already working, but it had arrived much earlier and had not initially sought out Peter but Eddie instead.
Many things in this universe are not exactly as he knew from the stories, but generally, they bear some similarities.
“Leave these guys for Jessica and the police to handle; I’ll take Eddie back to the company to find out what’s happening.”
After instructing Peter, Hawking picked up Eddie and swiftly flew to his company.
Along the way, Hawking would shout it back into submission whenever Venom tried to emerge.
