Marvel: Randomly Load a Protagonist Template - Chapter 84
“Mr. Erik, coming to see me at this time, it must be more than just small talk. What is this essential matter you mentioned?”
While drinking coffee and listening to Magneto’s usual spiel about mutant ideology, Hawking didn’t want to waste time and directly addressed the main issue.
In conversations, the one who loses patience first often ends up at a disadvantage, losing the initiative. However, Hawking believed that as long as one is powerful enough, one always retains the initiative.
Even without transforming into his Giant Ape form or using any protagonist templates, he could suppress Magneto, so there was no need to waste time competing in patience. What he wanted was to finish the conversation and return to his family.
Seeing Hawking press the issue, Magneto decided to get to the point instead of playing coy, and with a severe expression, he said:
“Hawking, S.H.I.E.L.D. is preparing to move against us mutants!”
“What, are you joking?” Hawking’s brow furrowed.
With Nick Fury’s current subordinates, aside from Captain Marvel, few were a match for them—Carter, Hawking, and Black Widow could only compete with the average X-Men member.
Against him, Magneto, and Professor X, just Captain Marvel alone wouldn’t be enough.
That was also why Nick Fury initially agreed to the three-party talks.
Moreover, at this point, Avengers like Thor, Hulk, Iron Man Tony, and Doctor Stephen Strange had yet to appear or be recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D., so it didn’t make sense.
Could it be that Magneto himself wanted to stir up trouble? Given the situation, Nick Fury would unlikely cause issues if he had any sense. Hawking thought it was more likely that Magneto was in front of him and trying to stir things up.
Anticipating Hawking’s suspicion, the cunning old fox Magneto gestured to Mystique beside him, who nodded, took some documents out of her handbag and placed them on the table.
“These are some documents I obtained from infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Magneto said.
“True to her reputation as the number one mutant spy, even S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t safe from her,” Hawking commented as he quickly skimmed through the documents, his expression growing more severe by the minute.
“I didn’t expect it, but S.H. I.E.L.D has taken the mutant child who can nullify superpowers.”
In X-Men 3, there was a mutant child codenamed “Cure” whose proximity could nullify the powers of other superpowered beings, which would only return once they moved away from him.
Later, Worthington Labs used this mutant’s ability to develop a serum that could turn mutants into normal humans, along with corresponding weapons.
Magneto, fearing that humans would use this serum to eradicate all mutants, rallied a large number of mutants to try to destroy it.
However, the serum could not permanently turn mutants into normal humans; it only temporarily suppressed their abilities.
He had previously sent people to look into this company. Still, he found that Worthington Labs was a regular biotech company with no research on the mutant child’s abilities in this universe.
He thought it was because of different universes, so this storyline did not exist here.
It turns out that S.H.I.E.L.D. had intercepted it early on, and they had developed corresponding weapons and created collars and handcuffs that could suppress mutant powers.
Hawking looked at Erik with surprise and asked, “Mr. Erik, you came to see me specifically at this time. Surely, it’s not just for a chat. What is this essential matter you mentioned?”
While sipping his coffee and listening to Magneto persist with his usual spiel on mutant ideology, Hawking decided not to waste any more time and went straight to the point.
Typically, the one who loses patience first in a conversation is at a disadvantage, losing the initiative. However, Hawking didn’t subscribe to this belief; he felt that as long as one had sufficient strength, one would never lose the upper hand.
Without transforming into his giant ape form or loading any hero templates, Hawking could still suppress Magneto. Therefore, he saw no need to outlast Magneto in a battle of patience; he wanted to finish the conversation quickly and return to his family.
Seeing that Hawking was the first to break, Magneto decided to cut to the chase, his expression turning serious: “Hawking, S.H.I.E.L.D. is preparing to take action against us mutants!”
“What? Are you joking?” Hawking’s eyebrows immediately knitted together.
Considering Nick Fury’s subordinates at the moment, apart from Captain Marvel, not many could pose a real threat. Agents like Carter, Hawking, and Black Widow could only compete with average X-Men members.
Against him, Magneto, and Professor X, Captain Marvel alone wouldn’t be sufficient. This was why Nick Fury had previously agreed to tripartite talks.
Moreover, at this point, Avengers like Thor, Hulk, Iron Man Tony, and Doctor Stephen Strange had yet to appear or be recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D., so it made even less sense.
Magneto himself was seeking to stir things up. Given the circumstances, Nick Fury would not have initiated conflict if he had been wiser. Hawking considered it more likely that Magneto was in front of him seeking to stir up trouble.
Anticipating Hawking’s skepticism, the cunning old fox Magneto signaled to Mystique beside him, who nodded, took some documents out of her bag and placed them on the table.
“These are some documents I obtained by infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Magneto explained.
“As expected of the number one mutant spy, even S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t safe from her,” Hawking remarked as he quickly skimmed the documents, his expression growing increasingly grave.
