- Chapter 44 - As It Is Well-Known, There Are Only Two Countries in The World
Since Kingpin decided to go legitimate, now was a perfect opportunity to show goodwill.
Like Tony Stark, you can’t say these people don’t understand the concept of grey; it’s just that in their minds, grey is never the primary approach. They see things in black and white. Kingpin didn’t hope for much, just that he wouldn’t be categorized in the black area.
Although Kingpin wasn’t afraid of Tony stirring things up—because people like him are usually straightforward—he knew avoiding such a significant hassle was beneficial.
However, demonstrating goodwill was also a delicate art; too little might be ineffective, and too much might make it look like he was weakening, which could invite even more trouble.
A day later, Tony had spent all his Main God points and merits.
Despite spending so quickly, Tony’s combat capabilities hadn’t improved much, as he mainly invested in auxiliary functions.
Firstly, detection skills. According to Alice, Tony had spent significantly in the Main God Space’s ruthless shop to purchase an essential detection skill.
After this purchase, Tony was even more eager for the population of the Main God Space to increase and for a free trade market to develop. The difference between the buyback and selling prices made Tony feel like he had been exploited.
Besides this auxiliary skill, Tony also enhanced his personal storage space. First, he used merit points to connect several compartments, then spent most of his remaining points on expanding the space.
Tony’s personal storage space was substantial enough for a small factory.
After these upgrades, Tony returned to the Marvel Universe.
His return location was a new villa built later.
“Sir, welcome back,” Jarvis’s voice sounded.
Tony exhaled, comforted by the familiar voice.
“Jarvis, what’s happened during my absence?” Tony asked.
Buzz, several screens appeared before Tony, displaying information organized by Jarvis.
“Eleven days ago, Miss Potts was required to attend a hearing led by the military…”
“During your absence, S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to contact Miss Potts privately seven times. Due to your orders, we did not monitor Miss Potts…”
“In this period, 34 individuals attempting infiltration were expelled. Based on identity analysis, most were affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D.…”
While listening to Jarvis and reviewing the data, Tony knew those guys wouldn’t give up so easily. They had targeted Pepper.
“Additionally, according to our data, Goldtooth Security has been blocking some of the pressure on Stark Industries in your absence,” Jarvis continued.
“Security company? You mean Stark Industries now needs help from a security company?” Tony asked, slightly amused.
“You misunderstand, sir. Goldtooth Security has proactively shielded Stark Industries without any known contact with Miss Potts or other senior executives. Furthermore, upon investigation, it appears that Wilson Grant Fisk, known as the Kingpin, is the hidden stakeholder behind Goldtooth Security,” Jarvis added.
Hearing this name, Tony’s expression darkened.
He had never liked Kingpin, but admittedly, Kingpin’s rule over New York’s underworld had somewhat been a blessing in its chaos, establishing new rules and reducing some violence.
However, no matter how much Kingpin tried to whitewash his actions, they were utterly reprehensible. Why, then, was he showing goodwill towards Stark Industries? This was a puzzle worth considering.
Compared to Kingpin’s sudden friendliness, the military’s actions were negligible—they weren’t doing anything new, just the same old tactics.
“Kingpin… Kingpin… Kingpin…” Tony muttered, then suddenly, an idea flashed through his mind.
“This guy might have joined the Main God Space and seems to have guessed my identity,” Tony mused, increasingly sure of this possibility.
“Jarvis, do we have any recent intelligence on Kingpin, specifically his prepared locations?” Tony turned to ask.
“Sorry, sir, Kingpin’s precautions are quite thorough. No relevant information meeting your criteria has been found,” Jarvis replied.
Despite lacking evidence to support his speculation, Tony felt he was right.
“This just got interesting,” Tony chuckled. “Jarvis, connect me to Pepper’s phone.”
“Hello, Pepper, where are you? I’m planning to hold a press conference…”
At the top of the building where Goldtooth Security was located, Kingpin indulged in his daily ritual—eating.
The table was still laden with the usual—burgers, steaks, and pizzas, perhaps with just a change in seasoning.
“Boss, Tony Stark has appeared. Stark Industries announced that there will be a press conference today at 3 PM, and Tony Stark will be speaking,” a subordinate reported, head bowed.
Kingpin nodded, downed a large bowl of mushroom soup, and then forcefully flipped the table.
The table flew over twenty meters, crashing against a wall and shattering into pieces, causing.
The subordinate trembles at the sound.
“Didn’t I say to change the type of food? Are you ignoring my orders?” Kingpin wiped his hands with a napkin from his collar as he spoke.
“Boss, you’ve already switched over two hundred dishes in the past few days. We really can’t find any more new types to fill a table,” the subordinate explained, clearly distressed.
Kingpin’s demands were high, even considering a pizza with a different filling as a new type. Finding over two hundred varieties under such criteria was challenging.
“Why haven’t you hired chefs from China like I asked? Where are they?” Kingpin turned around; eating repetitive food reduced the efficiency of energy production, and the only way to boost it quickly was to eat a variety of foods.
Compared to the richness of foods, China could easily outclass the West, a fact Kingpin was well aware of.
“They’re unwilling to come. As soon as they hear it’s for you, no one applies. Forcing them only got several martial artists to beat our guys out,” the subordinate complained. He would have dealt with those martial artists without the boss’s instructions to be polite and not use force.
Kingpin walked over to the subordinate and slapped him on the shoulder, softening his body and shattering his bones.
“You! Use another name to hire chefs. I want to see dishes today!” Kingpin pointed at another person, infuriated by the subordinate’s stupidity.
