Marvel Rise of Lord God - Chapter 45
“Dear, what do you want to say at this press conference? You haven’t told me anything. How can I help you prepare your speech?” Pepper sat down across from Tony, looking at him with curiosity.
Hearing Pepper’s voice, Tony snapped out of his daze, stood up, and embraced her. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this covered. It’s just about announcing one thing.”
Pepper looked into Tony’s eyes, imagining all sorts of things, and suddenly became shy. “Oh, you don’t have to make such a big deal out of proposing.”
“How could I? How could I propose at such a simple venue? Even if I don’t use a hydrogen bomb as fireworks, I won’t propose without any preparation,” Tony said with a laugh, embracing Pepper. Their relationship was naturally progressing to that point, and it was indeed time to think about proposing.
“What hydrogen bomb as fireworks? Who does that?” Pepper playfully hit Tony.
“Mr. Stark, the press conference is ready. When would you like to start?” Happy poked his head in the door, pausing to see Pepper and Tony together.
“Eh? Where are they? Why aren’t they here?” Happy’s mind raced as he pretended not to notice; he certainly didn’t want to get fired for overstepping into the office the wrong way tomorrow.
“That’s enough, stop it,” Pepper said to Happy.
“Dear, you go ahead,” she said after straightening Tony’s clothes.
“Alright, wait for the good news,” Tony adjusted his stylish hair and walked towards the podium.
To most ordinary people, this press conference was just Tony Stark popping up to show he was still alive, but it held a different significance for some.
Crunch. Kingpin bit into a large beef sandwich, leaning back on the sofa, watching the live broadcast of the press conference.
What exactly is he planning?
Kingpin pondered. If Tony tried to sway public opinion, he was overthinking it. Those kinds of tactics were best left to official organizations like S.H.I.E.L.D.
Like him, others such as military General Ross, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury and the head of Hydra’s U.S. branch, Pierce, also watched the broadcast.
On the screen, Tony, dressed in a sharp suit, slowly walked up to the podium.
The reporters quieted down, all cameras focused on Tony, everyone waiting for him to speak.
“Ladies and gentlemen, today, I just want to announce one thing,” Tony adjusted the microphone and looked directly into the camera.
Kingpin watched intently as if making eye contact with Tony through the TV.
“I am the Mechanic!” Tony declared resolutely.
As he spoke, three suits of armor flew out towards the front of the stage, their spectacular appearance stunning everyone present.
The reporters, unclear on the meaning of “Mechanic,” were immediately captivated by the armor suits.
Click-click-click flashes lit up the press conference venue.
“Mr. Stark! What does ‘Mechanic’ mean?”
“Mr. Stark! Are these armors Stark Industries’ latest weapon products?”
Questions from the reporters flew one after another.
Tony stood on the stage without responding while the armor displayed their weapon systems, densely packed gun barrels, and missile launchers, confirming that these were not just for show.
After flexing this ‘muscle,’ Tony didn’t answer any questions and turned to walk backstage.
Gulp. Kingpin downed a plate of Mapo tofu, then flung the plate aside.
“Interesting, declaring his identity like that, he’s aiming to be a leader,” Kingpin laughed heartily.
The minions beside him dared not speak, watching Kingpin laugh while unsure of his true thoughts.
“Go, send a public letter to Tony Stark on my behalf,” Kingpin instructed as his mind replayed the images of the armor Tony had just displayed. “Yes, but sir, what should the main content of the letter be, or under what pretext should we send it?” the minion asked.
“It doesn’t matter what it says. Just get him to meet me once. If that doesn’t work, ask if he’s selling the armor,” Kingpin ordered.
“Understood!”
At S.H.I.E.L.D.’s headquarters, Director Nick Fury’s office, he watched the chaotic scene at the press conference and tapped his desk.
Under his fingertips lay a plan to form the Avengers team.
“Coulson, bring me that box and arrange my schedule; I need to talk with Tony,” Fury picked up the phone and spoke softly.
The world was becoming increasingly chaotic and challenging to manage. Some unambitious Eligibles had already caused significant trouble and casualties.
Nick had planned to find a quiet time to discuss the Main God Space with Tony privately, but since Tony had publicly disclosed his identity, it was time to adjust those plans.
In the military
General Ross’s mood darkened as he listened to Tony’s assertive words.
He had always been reluctant to acknowledge that Tony might have been the first on Earth to join the Main God Space, but now he had no choice but to accept it. Denial was futile.
“Main God Space… what exactly is it? What do they want?” Ross thought, picking up a document from his desk.
Four individuals who had joined the Main God Space were discovered so far under his command, each a top expert in their field.
Unfortunately, the survival rate for their first mission was only fifty percent; two elite soldiers had vanished without a trace and never reappeared.
To find out what happened to these two, Ross had to humble himself and conduct a thorough investigation with S.H.I.E.L.D., confirming both soldiers had died.
“Sir! There’s been progress in our research!” The aide burst into the office, smiling broadly as he reported to Ross.
“Really? Come on, take me to see it,” Ross stood up from his chair.
Their leading research involved the controllable fusion of the Super Soldier Serum, Hulk’s blood, and the T-virus from Resident Evil.
Simply put, they tried combining the advantages of Captain America, Steve Rogers, the Hulk, and Alice to create the world’s strongest mutant.
Rogers’s advantage was his adaptability and self-genetic optimization, Hulk’s was his limitless strength growth, and Alice’s was her stable genetics and robust mental development.
If they could eliminate the adverse effects and merge the positive ones, Ross’s position would undoubtedly skyrocket. Then, would S.H.I.E.L.D. dare to oppose him? They could be crushed in minutes, but the created mutant had to be obedient enough.
