Marvel Rise of Lord God - Chapter 48
“Director, there has been an unusual occurrence in New Mexico,” Coulson reported, entering Nick Fury’s office with a stack of documents.
“I’m already aware of it,” Fury replied, eyes fixed on his computer screen displaying the situation near Thor’s Hammer, including how many people had touched it and any other unusual occurrences associated with the hammer.
“Coulson, take a team there, secure the item, and bring in some experts to see if they can discover anything. Also, any response from Tony Stark after seeing the information?” Fury continued.
“No, he said he was too busy. Just hand me a red button and leave,” Coulson said, pulling out a red button.
“Alright, head over there,” Fury responded, rubbing his forehead. Lately, the increase in the number of Main God Space participants and those using special abilities for crime has been giving him headaches.
“No problem,” Coulson nodded.
A day later, in New Mexico, Coulson’s team had securely locked down the area around Thor’s Hammer and retrieved some leaked data to researchers.
“Melinda, how’s the hammer doing?” Coulson asked about the seized information upon returning with the team.
“It’s the same as before. Nothing we’ve tried can lift it from the ground,” Melinda replied, shaking her head.
“How is that possible? That defies all logic,” Coulson said as they approached the hammer.
Near Thor’s Hammer, two scrapped cranes showed evidence of failed attempts to lift it; even working together, they hadn’t managed to move the hammer at all.
“If it’s that heavy, why hasn’t it sunk into the ground?” Coulson pondered aloud as he circled the hammer.
“Who knows, my worldview has been rebuilt many times over by now,” Melinda sighed. Just a few days ago, she encountered someone who could move objects remotely and used this ability to steal from a convenience store. Unfortunately, this intellectually challenged individual didn’t think to avoid surveillance, so S.H.I.E.L.D. readily apprehended him, and he was now under study in their labs.
“Let’s beef up the security here. Coulson, I got word from Tony that he’ll make time in a few days to check things out here,” Coulson said resignedly.
At present, the only person they could contact who had enough influence and advisory capacity on these matters was Tony Stark, who wasn’t even a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent; getting his time took a lot of work.
That evening, outside the defense base, a muscular man with somewhat golden hair carefully lay atop a nearby hill. This was Thor, whom Odin had banished to Earth. Without his hammer, he was just a robust Asgardian with regenerative solid abilities.
After a long observation, Thor finally spotted a part of the patrol routine. He wanted to continue watching, but fully understanding the patterns would likely take until the next day.
Thor stayed low, carefully approaching the defense base and using wire cutters to create an opening in the fence. Coulson’s sometimes lax security measures were evident despite the tight times.
Thor advanced toward Thor’s Hammer, avoiding soldiers until the patrolling soldiers noticed the cut fence.
Suddenly, an alarm sounded within the base.
Realizing he had been spotted, Thor quickened his pace, charging directly towards the location of Thor’s Hammer. The clouds gathered ominously above, adding a grave air to the atmosphere.
After swiftly passing through several plastic-covered pipes, Thor was very close to his target.
Whoosh—a feathered arrow shot from above, landing accurately in the soil before Thor as a warning from Hawkeye. Thor looked up to see Hawkeye perched at the highest point of the base, bow drawn and aimed in his direction.
The rain intensified suddenly, enveloping the entire base in a water curtain. The footsteps of nearby soldiers grew louder as Thor rolled into a conduit and then, without care, sprinted towards Thor’s Hammer.
He believed he could break Odin’s seal once he retrieved Thor’s Hammer and return to being the invincible God of Thunder!
Coulson watched Thor’s advance in the monitoring room and pressed the intercom button, “Hawkeye, let him through. I want to see what he plans to do.”
Hearing the order, Hawkeye relaxed his grip, allowing the skilled soldier below to proceed. An ordinary person would have been shot down by now.
Coulson watched intently, feeling that Thor was no ordinary man. He sensed an aura from Thor that he had recognized in others who had joined the Main God Space. Thor could lift the hammer.
Unhindered, Thor reached Thor’s Hammer and slowed his approach, his nerves taut.
Taking a deep breath, Thor stood before Thor’s Hammer and gripped it with his right hand.
“Ah!” he shouted, exerting all his strength.
Yet, Thor’s Hammer remained immovable.
.
Feeling something was amiss, Thor looked down as rainwater slid down his cheeks and fell to the ground.
Unwilling to give up, Thor gripped the hammer’s handle with both hands and roared again.
Despite his efforts, Thor’s Hammer did not budge. After several minutes of trying, Thor finally gave up.
He knelt on the ground, looking up through the rain at Asgard, raindrops striking his face.
“Why!!!” he exclaimed.
Hearing Thor’s voice, Coulson stepped out and sighed, wishing that things could go as he planned.
He waved his hand, and two soldiers approached to detain Thor. After being so profoundly struck, Thor’s spirit fell to the dust, offering no resistance along the way.
Tied to a chair, Thor awaited Coulson but was met by his brother, Loki.
Coulson remained outside with a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, busy with unknown tasks.
Feeling something warm on his neck as if something was heating up, Coulson instinctively reached up and pulled out an amulet given to him by Nick Fury before arriving here. This item, known as the Amulet of Serenity, was redeemed by S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel from the Main God Space store. Though the name was tacky, its significant effects allowed the wearer to maintain long-lasting clarity.
Crack, the amulet suddenly broke, a fresh, crisp essence rushing to Coulson’s forehead, snapping him back to full alertness.
