Marvel Rise of Lord God - Chapter 52
“Loki!” Thor shouted and stepped forward from the crowd. “You are here only to find me. I am right here. Creating bloodshed without reason is pointless!”
The Destroyer halted its attack preparation, its outer shell rotating, front turning to back, facing Thor directly.
Thor just stared at the Destroyer with no fear or cowardice in his eyes.
“Come on! Make your move!”
“Do you think I will let you go by saying that?” Loki’s voice came from inside the Destroyer.
“I have no such plan. You overthink,” Thor raised his hand, “Since you want to be king, then you should do what a king ought to do: manage Asgard well after all this ends!”
While speaking, Thor was very calm. He never wanted to be king; it was just that as the only legitimate heir of Asgard, everyone had always seen him as the king and held him to the expectations of one.
Loki did not continue to respond. Compared to Thor’s open-mindedness and resolution, he felt like a petulant child, and his mischief had much more significant consequences.
Under Loki’s control, the Destroyer began to charge up, preparing to give Thor a grand funeral.
Thor closed his eyes, “Father, I understand what you mean. I was not up to the mark before, neither as a king nor a brother.”
Heimdall watched Thor from the side, and within that brief minute, the fluctuations around Thor became increasingly apparent.
“Odin, you won your bet,” Heimdall said with a slight smile, as Thor ultimately did not let Odin’s expectations down.
Boom! The Destroyer’s energy beam targeted Thor and fired, scorching the ground it crossed.
Sizzling! Inside the defence base, Mjolnir began to move on its own.
The massive energy affected the surrounding measuring instruments, and storm clouds started forming over Mjolnir, with lightning flashing between the clouds.
Crack!
Lightning struck down precisely on Mjolnir, activating Odin’s contingency plan and re-establishing the link between Mjolnir and Thor.
The moment the laser reached him, Thor opened his eyes in confusion and turned his head toward the direction of the defence base.
Boom!
Purple lightning burst from Thor’s body, colliding with the Destroyer’s beam.
“Thor has returned!” Sif sighed in relief upon seeing the situation inside.
“Hehe… I knew it. You wouldn’t just watch him die. All this was prepared by you, right?” Loki, in Asgard, shouted in the direction of Odin, who lay in slumber.
“I refuse to accept this! How am I inferior to him? Just because I am born of the Frost Giants’ lineage?!” Loki’s face grew uglier, his envy twisting his spirit.
Bathed in the electric light, Thor felt his body surge with power.
Mjolnir flew out of the defence base like a cruise missile, tracing a beautiful arc in the air, landing in Thor’s hand.
Thor’s battle armor reappeared along with Mjolnir.
“Take my hammer!” Thor swung the Mjolnir, aiming to strike at the centre of the laser.
The powerful impact deflected the beam.
“I am back!”
Lifting Mjolnir high, Thor soared into the sky, surrounded by numerous lightning bolts as if held up by the stars.
Charging up again, Mjolnir, with terrifying force, smashed directly down, sending the Destroyer flying.
The shell finally deformed beyond instant repair due to the attack.
“Prodigal!” Heimdall cursed under his breath as Thor was intent on dismantling the Destroyer completely.
This casual observer’s heart bled at the sight. If the Destroyer had been at full power, not even a restored Thor, and perhaps not even Odin, could handle it without significant effort.
Feeling the long-missed power, Thor swung Mjolnir, joyously releasing energy, charging directly at the Destroyer.
Just as his attack was about to land, the Destroyer suddenly vanished from its spot.
Thor halted abruptly in mid-air, cautiously surveying his surroundings.
The Destroyer appeared on the ground not far from Thor, wholly incapacitated, as Heimdall had cut off Loki’s control in those few seconds. Given Loki’s poor control skills, Heimdall found it as easy as eating or drinking to take over.
“Cough, cough.” Heimdall appeared beside the Destroyer.
“It’s all restored. Stop acting like a fool and breaking things now and then. This thing is hard to make,” Heimdall patted the Destroyer, saying.
“It’s you!” Thor stared at Heimdall, “You were the man at the bar yesterday.”
“Haha, your memory isn’t bad,” Heimdall chuckled, “Well, about the
Destroyer, I’ll keep it for now, safekeeping it for you. If you want it back, let Odin come to me.”
With that, Heimdall waved his hand, taking the Destroyer away.
Such a critical item falling into the hands of a stranger, Thor could not just let it go.
Divine power surged, and Mjolnir flew out of his hand, directly aiming at Heimdall.
Clang, Heimdall snapped his fingers, and all the lightning suddenly dissipated. Mjolnir also fell from the sky.
“Don’t be so impulsive, fighting and killing, how hurtful,” Heimdall caught Mjolnir and tossed it back to Thor.
Taking back the hammer, Thor landed on the ground, with Sif and others nervously gathering around him, all eyeing Heimdall with hostility.
Heimdall ignored their hostility and looked up at the sky, not noticing any reaction from Odin, so he assumed Odin had tacitly agreed.
Coming out and picking up a divine artefact was quite a win, although it seemed like taking advantage of a crisis.
However, Heimdall could return the item once Odin awoke, although he would have thoroughly researched the Destroyer by then.
Thus, Heimdall flashed a sly smile at Thor and the others and disappeared along with the Destroyer from their sight.
Thor immediately threw Mjolnir, striking Heimdall’s former position, but only managed to create a large hole in the ground.
“Gone?!” Sif exclaimed in shock.
“That’s enough, stop searching!” Thor stopped Sif and the others, “We have more important things to do!”
Though he said that, Thor’s honest thoughts were different; he had sensed from Heimdall a presence and fluctuations stronger than his own father’s.
This might be a figure not inferior to his father; clashing with such a person at this moment was not wise.
