Marvel Saiyans - Chapter 28
“Carlos has finished. Because of the recent riots in Mexico City, his government connections are destroyed, and his gunmen have suffered heavy losses under Barlo Mata’s assault. Now he’s like a lion that’s been declawed and defanged.”
Broly meticulously recited the script Matt had prepared for him. These words were valid; Carlos was indeed unprecedentedly weak.
A flicker of intent passed through Benjamin’s eyes. Apart from Carlos, he was the most decisive leader in the Reyes organization. He was undoubtedly the man if anyone could replace Carlos to lead the Reyes group.
No, it wouldn’t be long before the Reyes group should be renamed the Felix group.
However, Benjamin wasn’t completely blinded by ambition.
“This situation isn’t so simple. We don’t have anyone in the Mexican government, and Barlo Mata won’t just let us reorganize. The other leaders won’t agree to have me as their boss either. Most crucially, what if Kingpin still supports Carlos?”
He voiced his concerns.
“Friend, it’s not just Carlos who’s been hit hard; Barlo Mata has also suffered significant losses. Those politicians won’t allow Barlo Mata to monopolize the drug trade in Mexico; without a balance of power, these politicians won’t have a foothold,” Broly continued: “If you don’t take control, someone else will step up to replace Carlos. Do you want to spend the next decade working for others, settling for the scraps they leave behind?”
Broly stuck to his lines, not knowing who Kingpin was, so he didn’t mention him.
That statement completely dispelled Benjamin’s hesitation; he was ambitious and didn’t want to be subordinate to others anymore.
Thirty years ago, Mexican politicians controlled the drug trade in Mexico. But these politicians wouldn’t get their hands dirty; that was too indecent. They used their power to prevent drug traffickers from dealing drugs for them and enjoyed a cut of the profits. However, after the Cold War ended, this situation completely changed.
With the Soviet Union no longer a rival, Mexico disbanded many spies and military police. Just as the disbandment of post-stations during the reign of Emperor Chongzhen left many jobless, these unemployed spies and police officers were quickly absorbed by the drug cartels. With the help of these former armed personnel, the cartels rapidly became more organized and entirely out of control.
The politicians had made a mistake once; they wouldn’t make it a second time.
“What do you want, Alarcon?”
He knew Alarcon’s keenness to push him into power must come with his own needs.
“I want my territory back, my men back, Benjamin. Barlo Mata killed my wife and children. If he takes over the entire Mexican drug share, my chances for revenge are zero.”
Broly said that his acting was poor and did not convey the deep vengefulness of a man whose family was destroyed. But Benjamin was already immersed in his wild ambitions, completely overlooking the inconsistency in Broly’s demeanor.
“Ha ha ha, I will help you get your revenge, friend,” Benjamin’s warmth returned, and he hugged Broly affectionately, patting him on the shoulder: “Now, let’s contact the others, make them see who the new BOSS is.”
He almost couldn’t wait to pick up his phone calling several others.
“Carlos is done for; we need to meet to discuss how the organization will develop. I have a place in Ensenada. How about there?”
…
…
Leaders of the Reyes group’s affiliated gangs gathered at a seaside mansion. The events in Mexico City had made them all nervous.
To this day, the President of Mexico still dared not return to Mexico City for work. Thousands of American soldiers had blocked a quarter of Mexico City and still had not found Green Demon’s trace.
It was as if he had vanished into thin air. They wouldn’t forget that ever since Green Demon appeared, he had been causing trouble for the Reyes group, even kidnapping Carlos’s daughter.
Wade held a glass of champagne, mingling and drinking with the other gang leaders’ drivers, casually gathering information. Matt stood at a higher vantage point, keeping watch over the surroundings.
The leaders were seated around a conference table in the courtyard below. This meeting was set to strip everything away from Reyes; he didn’t believe that the old and cunning Carlos was utterly unaware.
“Carlos can no longer protect us. He can barely protect himself,” Benjamin’s first statement stirred everyone. While all began to scheme and speculate about the purpose of this gathering, the respect built by Carlos over fifteen years of ruling the Reyes group still instilled fear in them.
“We can protect ourselves, and with fewer people to share the money, we could earn more than before. Why work for someone else when you can be your boss?”
Broly glanced at Benjamin; this differed from what they had discussed before. Benjamin wasn’t immediately pushing to be the boss but kept stating that the Reyes brothers were no longer helpful to the organization.
Nobody could become a leader just by being bold and violent.
The earpiece in Broly’s ear buzzed with Matt’s voice, and Broly discreetly gestured an acknowledgment before saying:
“What about the Mata group? Without a boss, we won’t stand a chance against Barlo Mata. He will pick us off one by one.”
All the leaders nodded in agreement.
Barlo Mata was a power beast; he didn’t just want to make money quietly and rule the entire Mexican underworld to become the Druglord of Mexico.
“As for Barlo Mata, I’ll stand against him. Of course, war is expensive, and I’ll need to take a portion of the profits as war funds,” Benjamin said, very pleased with Alarcon’s compliance, planning to give him a piece of territory once he took over.
“What’s the difference between you and Carlos then?”
Someone discontentedly spoke up.
“The difference is that I’ll do it better than Carlos. Carlos is too weak! I will take the offensive; Barlo Mata is not as strong as we think! I will seize more territory, more shares!” Benjamin declared.
“What about Kingpin?”
Someone mentioned Kingpin again.
“Kingpin does not support losers!” Benjamin said spiritedly.
Suddenly, the sound of helicopter blades filled the sky, and a helicopter approached. The bodyguards started to panic and shout. Hundreds of gunmen, appearing out of nowhere, surrounded them. Caught off guard, they were almost effortlessly subdued and disarmed.
The helicopter landed in the courtyard, its doors wide open.
“Clap, clap, clap…”
Carlos descended from the helicopter, clapping and pointing to the earpiece on his ear.
“Wonderful, absolutely wonderful speech, Benjamin. I was very moved listening to it,” he said as he shook hands with Benjamin, who sat at the head of the table.
“How’s your family doing now, huh?”
Benjamin opened his mouth but couldn’t speak.
“Stand up! This is my seat!” Carlos suddenly roared like an enraged lion.
