Marvel Saiyans - Chapter 74
An Apache attack helicopter belonging to the 101st Airborne Division Combat Aviation Brigade was refueling at a frontline fuel and ammunition supply station.
Helicopter bases are usually located far from the front lines. When flying to attack targets, they consume a significant amount of fuel. Therefore, helicopters generally do not enter combat zones directly from their bases.
Frontline fuel and ammunition supply stations are typically located about 50 km from the attack position, responsible for refueling and ammunition replenishment, and sometimes serve as forward command posts.
At this moment, the helicopter had not shut down its engine. Once the engine stops, it cannot be restarted until the turbine cools down, which is very time-consuming.
Armed helicopters generally have the capability to refuel while the engine is running. It takes only fifteen to twenty minutes to refill the fuel tank.
“Something big seems to be happening?”
The ground crew chatted with the two crew members on the helicopter while refueling.
“Fifteen Special Forces members, two patrol teams, and fifteen Afghan villages, not a single survivor.”
Hodge, the weapons operator in the front cockpit, flipped through the mission briefing.
The briefing stated that the attacker was a single individual using a strange cold weapon and moving extremely fast. The command was evidently enraged and dispatched an armored mechanized unit to eliminate the attacker, with the helicopter providing air support.
After refueling, the Apache immediately moved to the standby position, hovering in the air. They were 20 km from the target area, ready to move to the attack position and launch an assault as soon as reconnaissance helicopters and Global Hawk drones located the target.
“Mike, what do you think the attacker is?”
Hodge still couldn’t believe that one person could cause such significant losses to the US military. Patrol teams equipped with tanks had been decimated. He thought the Green Goblin had caused heavy losses to Mexico purely because their military was too weak.
“According to the Pashtuns, it’s the resurrected spirit of Genghis Khan, possessed in a sword.”
Mike, the pilot in the rear cockpit, said.
Rumors spread quickly, and some villages were fleeing the area in fear.
While the two men chatted in the helicopter, the ground forces encountered Wang Xuan-Zhe, controlled by the demonic sword, Starflash.
Three M1A2 main battle tanks aimed at the enemy two kilometers away. The tanks’ fire control systems used command optics, installed independently and separately from traditional fire control systems.
Once the gunner used the H-grip to align the sights with the target, the fire control computer automatically measured wind speed, propellant temperature, target distance, angular velocity, and inclination, calculating the lead and driving the cannon to the calculated position.
Soon, the sight showed the cannon was in position, ready to fire.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
The tanks jolted with the recoil.
Through the sights, the gunner saw three flashes almost hitting the target.
Get blown to pieces, monster!
He prayed silently.
A burst of sparks exploded, and the three M908 shells were cut like tofu, the fuses, and detonators destroyed by the sword’s energy. The remnants of the shells hit the ground, kicking up dust.
No explosion!
“Reload! Switch to depleted uranium armor-piercing rounds!”
The commander, horrified by what he saw, ordered. The shell speed exceeded 1400 m/s, much faster than rifle bullets and grenades, yet it was still cut.
The burly black loader immediately pulled an M829A2 armor-piercing round from the rack and loaded it into the cannon.
“Up!”
The loader shouted, indicating the reload was complete.
Accompanying infantry fighting vehicles began firing, their M242 Bushmaster chain guns at maximum rate, tracers lighting up like fireworks.
It was a deadly iron rain.
Wang Xuan-Zhe, like a storm petrel in the rain, weaved through the shells, charging at the armored unit.
“He’s too fast! Can’t aim!”
The gunner’s desperate voice echoed, the sight’s field of view too small to track the charging figure.
“Reverse! Fall back, increase distance!”
The commander’s voice trembled.
“Where’s our armed helicopter? Where’s our air force controller?”
“Bang!”
The tank’s hull jolted violently, the sharp sound of metal piercing nearly rupturing everyone’s eardrums. The driver stared in disbelief at the sword tip protruding before him.
“Motherf—”
The M1A2 main battle tank’s over 700mm thick frontal armor was pierced. Even armor-piercing rounds would melt into fluid after penetrating such composite armor.
Most rocket-propelled grenades couldn’t breach this wall of sighs.
Yet, a sword had pierced it.
The surreal reality made him think he was dreaming.
“Grr…”
Wang Xuan-Zhe pulled Starflash from the tank. The sword was too short to do more than pierce the armor.
Leaping into the air, he swung down, three sword beams piercing the weak top armor, killing all four crew members inside.
The accompanying infantry fired at him in the air.
Wang Xuan-Zhe’s demonic energy eroded all incoming bullets. Moving with demonic agility, his sword light shredded the soldiers like a meat grinder.
The tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, like clumsy beasts, couldn’t target Wang Xuan-Zhe up close.
Their engines roared as they tried to distance themselves from him.
“Ha!”
A sword beam snaked around, piercing the side and shredding the tank’s crew. Modern weapons were powerless against Starflash.
Gasps echoed in the command center.
They watched a powerful mechanized unit be slaughtered in minutes, defenseless.
They were annihilated so quickly the armed helicopter 20 km away couldn’t support them in time.
If it were the Taliban, they’d need 3,000 men for such results.
“Where’s our armed helicopter, artillery! Flatten this area! Even if it’s Genghis Khan’s ghost, send him to hell!!”
US Forces Afghanistan Commander John Scott roared, masking his inner fear.
