Marvel Shuttling the Heavens - Chapter 242
From Sanctuary II, countless bright beams of energy shot down like raindrops onto the battlefield, launching a barrage of indiscriminate attacks on both armies.
However, after only a few seconds of relentless bombardment, the ship’s cannons suddenly changed direction. Instead of targeting the ground, they began firing incessantly into the sky like an unseen enemy approaching from above.
…
“Friday, what’s going on? Why is Thanos’ ship firing into the sky? What’s attracting their firepower?” Tony asked urgently. Seeing Sanctuary II’s rain of fire causing massive damage to their forces, Tony and the others were anxious but could only defend and evade.
But Tony felt relief and confusion when the ship’s cannons shifted their aim skyward. He was desperate to know what was causing the change in the ship’s attack pattern.
“Boss, an unidentified object is rapidly entering the atmosphere. The fire is aimed at her!” Friday quickly responded. Even with Friday’s advanced capabilities, there wasn’t enough time to gather precise information.
“Could it be her?” Tony muttered, recalling the brilliant figure who had saved him while drifting through space. “If she’s arriving at this crucial moment, combined with Mr. Li Yue’s strength, we might have nothing to worry about in this battle!” His heart filled with excitement at the thought.
…
“Hey, Ms. Danvers, can you stop for a moment to talk?” Li Yue intercepted Captain Marvel, barreling through the atmosphere towards the Sanctuary II. He hadn’t had time to explain to Rocket and Groot before using his powers to vanish and reappear in front of Carol, stopping her mid-flight.
“Who are you? Why are you blocking me? Are you one of Thanos’ minions?” On her urgent mission to join the critical battle below, Carol screeched to a halt, eyeing Li Yue suspiciously.
She had been on a distant planet, helping its inhabitants recover from the disaster caused by Thanos’ snap. She had been doing this for five years, assisting countless planets through their difficult times.
But just minutes ago, she noticed that the beings who had vanished due to the snap were suddenly reappearing. Shocked, Carol immediately thought of the Avengers on Earth. “Did they do it?” Only they could bring back those who had disappeared, she believed.
Driven by curiosity and urgency, Carol had raced back to Earth, only to be met by a barrage of powerful cannon fire from the Sanctuary II as she neared the Avengers’ base.
…
Hearing Carol’s words, Li Yue was exasperated. Did he look like one of Thanos’ grotesque minions?
“Uh, I think you misunderstood. I’m not one of Thanos’ men. Like you, I’m a friend of Tony and Cap,” Li Yue said, trying to calm her down.
“If you’re on our side, get out of my way. I need to destroy Thanos’ ship before it causes more damage to our friends below!” Carol said, attempting to bypass Li Yue, her body glowing as she prepared to dive toward Sanctuary II again.
“Come on, why are you stopping me again?” Carol demanded, irritated as Li Yue once more used his powers to block her path.
“Look, those cannons are already targeting you. Their firepower, which is lethal to others, can’t hurt you. So why not stop and listen to me for a second?” Li Yue implored, seeing Carol’s growing impatience.
“Why do you keep blocking me from destroying Thanos’ ship? Also, your powers seem quite impressive if you can withstand their firepower too,” Carol said, intrigued by Li Yue’s strength. Aside from Thor, she hadn’t heard of anyone this powerful among the Avengers.
…
“I just think destroying such a powerful spacecraft would be a waste,” Li Yue admitted, trying to be diplomatic.
“Oh, you want to keep the ship for yourself. No wonder you’re stopping me,” Carol said, understanding dawning on her face. She smiled, slightly amused.
“Come on, you don’t have to be so blunt,” Li Yue replied, feeling awkward at being so transparently called out.
“Look, there’s no one else here. You don’t need to feel embarrassed. But taking that ship intact from Thanos won’t be as easy as you think,” Carol said, her tone turning serious. Despite the heavy losses among Thanos’ troops, taking the ship intact seemed nearly impossible to her.
“So, what’s your plan? If it’s feasible, I might help. But if it endangers our people, I won’t agree. And I’m confident you can’t stop me if I decide to destroy that ship,” Carol warned, scrutinizing Li Yue.
“Don’t worry, my plan is as simple as snapping my fingers,” Li Yue said with a relaxed smile.
