Marvel Shuttling the Heavens - Chapter 264
“No way, no way! I don’t want to die for no reason!”
Before Doctor Strange could respond, Wong immediately shook his head and refused.
“You’re kidding, right? I’m not afraid to die, but it should be fighting off enemies from other dimensions, not getting lost in a space-time vortex for no reason!”
“Well, I guess I’ll pass too. I’m just curious about the multiverse. Risking my life for curiosity isn’t worth it,”
Doctor Strange replied, seeming to forget his recent actions of “borrowing” the Eye of Agamotto to satisfy his curiosity. He suspected Li Yue’s warning might just be an excuse to avoid taking them along.
…
“Alright, let’s get back to serious business,”
Li Yue said, his tone becoming more serious as he addressed Doctor Strange.
“So, Stephen Strange, have you made your decision?”
“Will you accept the title of Sorcerer Supreme, take up the Eye of Agamotto, and protect Kamar-Taj and the Earth from other dimensional threats?”
Li Yue’s words carried a weight that made Mordo and Wong feel a sense of solemnity as if they were witnessing a momentous occasion. Indeed, the passing of the Sorcerer Supreme’s mantle was crucial, even if the average person had no idea what it meant.
Li Yue and the others fixed their gaze on Strange, awaiting his decision. The room fell silent, and the atmosphere became heavy with anticipation.
…
“I accept!”
Under the intense scrutiny of Li Yue and the others, Strange finally broke his silence, smiling confidently as he made his decision.
“Congratulations, you are now the Sorcerer Supreme of Kamar-Taj,”
Li Yue smiled relievedly, pleased that Strange had made the decision he had anticipated. Though the timeline was nearly five years ahead of the original events, Li Yue was relieved that Strange accepted his destiny rather than retreating to a simpler life as a surgeon.
Li Yue couldn’t forget that Strange’s hands were still intact, and without a tragic accident to motivate him, there was a risk he might never pursue magic. The idea of orchestrating an accident to push Strange into the role was distasteful to Li Yue, who was glad things worked out without such measures.
“Oh, by the way, Strange, since you’ve agreed to become the Sorcerer Supreme, I have a small gift for you,”
Li Yue suddenly said that an idea was coming to mind.
“A gift? Isn’t the Eye of Agamotto already a gift?”
Strange asked, puzzled. Mordo and Wong also needed clarification, wondering what else could be given besides the Eye of Agamotto.
“You’ll find out soon enough,”
Li Yue replied mysteriously before disappearing for a brief moment. When he reappeared, he held a bright red cloak in his hands.
“Alright, I’ve found your new owner. Go on,”
Li Yue said, directing the cloak towards Strange. The cloak seemed to understand and flew over to Strange, settling around his shoulders and affectionately brushing against his face.
“This is the Cloak of Levitation?”
Mordo exclaimed, recognizing the cloak’s distinctive characteristics.
“The Cloak of Levitation? Is that its name?”
Strange asked, astonished.
“Yes, I never thought it would choose you as its master,”
Mordo said, clearly surprised.
“Congratulations, this artifact is incredibly powerful. It allows you to fly without any other means and possesses a degree of sentience. It will be a great assistant to you,”
Mordo added, congratulating Strange.
“Thank you, Master Li Yue. I love it,”
Strange said, genuinely grateful.
“No need to thank me. Besides, I’m no longer the Sorcerer Supreme. You are,”
Li Yue replied, reminding Strange of his new role.
…
With Strange having accepted the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, Li Yue began preparing to leave Kamar-Taj. Despite having lived there for over two years and feeling attached, he knew he was just a passerby in this world and was eager to continue his journey.
“But before I leave Kamar-Taj, Strange, I have one more thing to tell you,”
Li Yue suddenly said, as if remembering something important.
“Now, on behalf of the Justice League, I officially invite you to join us!”
