Marvel Shuttling the Heavens - Chapter 268
After the “Life Wall” collapsed, Li Yue looked at the old man before him with a curious gaze, wondering if he would show any embarrassment.
“Young man, what are you looking at? Run quickly; the monster will be here soon! I’m old, so I’ll run first!”
However, the older man’s thick skin showed no embarrassment. He turned and ran swiftly, disappearing into the fleeing crowd with surprising agility for his age. At least he had the courtesy to warn Li Yue.
“Hehe, this old man is quite interesting!”
Watching the agile older man blend into the crowd, Li Yue chuckled.
“But, a ‘Life Wall,’ a giant monster… if a huge mech appears next…”
Just as Li Yue thought this, the sound of helicopter rotors reached his ears.
“Ahem, now it’s complete!”
Li Yue looked up to see a giant steel mech being airlifted by several helicopters.
…
By now, Li Yue understood the world he had arrived in. Giant monsters and towering mechs—it was the world of “Pacific Rim.”
In this world, everything was normal until a rift appeared on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. Through it, a colossal creature emerged, causing widespread destruction in cities. Initially, unprepared nations suffered heavy losses, with several towns destroyed before they managed to kill the monster. However, peace was short-lived as even more giant monsters emerged from the rift.
Humanity realised that survival required a proactive approach, leading to the Jaeger Program—a massive international effort to build giant humanoid mechs to combat the monsters. The mechs initially succeeded, but the escalating strength of the monsters and the exorbitant costs of maintaining the Jaegers soon made the program unsustainable. Nations began diverting resources to build “Life Walls” to keep the monsters at bay. However, the walls proved ineffective, easily breached by the relentless monsters, as Li Yue had just witnessed.
…
Li Yue recalled the plot of the “Pacific Rim” movie and noted discrepancies. The first Life Wall to be breached was in Sydney, but he was out of Sydney now. The fleeing crowd had Asian features, and the older man had spoken in Chinese. The surroundings suggested he was in Hong Kong.
For Li Yue, these deviations from the movie plot were inconsequential. He no longer needed to rely on his knowledge of the plot to gain an advantage. Instead, he pondered what he could gain from this world.
…
Advanced technology? Giant mechs? Or the alien technology behind the monstrous kaiju?
Li Yue weighed his options. The technology here was advanced but could have been more enticing compared to what he already possessed from the Marvel universe. Given his current strength, the cumbersome mechs required synchronised piloting by two people, which didn’t appeal to Li Yue.
This left the kaiju. Li Yue was intrigued by these massive creatures and, more importantly, the aliens who created and deployed them. Acquiring the technology to mass-produce powerful kaiju could be fascinating, especially with his access to Pym Particle technology, which could make the kaiju even more formidable.
…
Li Yue imagined commanding a kaiju like Godzilla with a simple gesture, releasing it to incinerate enemies with atomic breath.
“Ahem, I might be getting ahead of myself. Let’s focus on acquiring the kaiju technology first.”
Shaking off his fantasies, Li Yue noticed the crowd had fled, leaving him alone. The mech had already engaged the kaiju but was struggling. The kaiju’s raw power quickly overwhelmed the mech, which soon found itself on the defensive. One powerful blow from the kaiju sent the mech sprawling, and as it lay vulnerable, the kaiju charged again, ready to deliver a crushing blow.
…
“It seems I have a prime opportunity to make an entrance right after arriving in this world!”
Smiling, Li Yue vanished from his spot.
