Marvel's Princess - Chapter 52
Treating comrade 006 was just a minor episode in Bella’s life. Leveraging his intelligence network to learn about Ghost Rider’s past life was good news, but for her personally, changing from Miss Ghost Rider to Miss Ghost Shaw made no difference.
Who betrayed her or how she died remains unknown.
Even knowing wouldn’t change anything. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust—did her life also belong to America and her afterlife?
Life goes on, with students attending school and spirits continuing their haunting.
Using her psychic abilities and the ghost’s negative energy, they jointly sealed away comrade 006’s memories of the past two days.
The identity of the ghost must remain hidden for now. Bella’s actions in dodging bullets were also clearly seen by comrade 006, so these memories had to be securely locked away.
To ensure the seal was robust, Bella added a passphrase. Considering local customs, she chose to “drink more hot water.”
Theoretically, saying “drink more hot water” in any language could semi-activate the memories, but considering that locals regularly drink iced water, Bella felt this passphrase was safe.
With a passphrase and a powerful negative energy barrier, there was no way comrade 006 could recall these two days, not even with the top hypnotists.
The Earth is vast; encountering a paranormal event isn’t easy, especially involving a spirit of a higher rank than Miss Shaw.
Miss Shaw herself was an elite agent, betrayed and filled with vengeful thoughts upon death, which allowed her to form a spirit. Ordinary people can’t match an agent’s mental and willpower, let alone accumulate enough resentment to become a ghost and now surpass Miss Shaw in rank?
Bella thought the chances of comrade 006 encountering such an event were minuscule. Even the unluckiest have their limits, right?
The pension case brought Bella considerable social attention and fame.
At the end of June, Victoria Hand took her to Stanford University in California to meet with several professors from the history department.
Such an esteemed institution welcomes celebrities, and with Bella’s good grades, Stanford’s doors were wide open to her. By the end of August, she was ready to report to Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After bidding farewell to Victoria Hand, Bella drove north from California back to Forks, Washington.
The next day at home, using the materials left from last time, Bella set up a séance, reigniting the fire pit to attempt communication with her ancestors again.
Having dealt with the Grim Reaper, she felt it right to report to her ancestors, useful or not, as a form of respect.
This second séance was much harder than the first. She had a hunch that continuing to use the Quileute tribe’s method would make the next attempt nearly impossible. But once she entered the Spirit Sea, it felt completely different. As a psychic, she felt in her element here—if comfort in the material world was one, it was ten in the Spirit Sea.
She comfortably hummed, moving deeper into the Spirit Sea twice as fast as before.
Various spirits showed her goodwill, and she expressed her gratitude clearly.
She didn’t see Will Turner or Elizabeth Swann and wondered where these old ancestors had gone. In the Spirit Sea, Bella only encountered Hector Barbossa and his daughter, Carina Barbossa.
Exchanging thoughts in the Spirit Sea was quick. They understood the entire process of Bella defeating the Grim Reaper in just two thoughts.
“Hmph, such a small fry gave you so much trouble? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!” With Bella’s enhanced psychic abilities, Barbossa’s spirit was much clearer to her.
Dressed in a heavy coat and a black tricorn hat, Barbossa maintained his appearance from his final days—wrinkled face, unkempt beard, scars across his neck and arms, rough nails, and a prosthetic leg.
Carina Barbossa’s attire was more conventional, wearing a Baroque-style corset dress with a slender neck and graceful figure.
“Don’t mind him. That’s just how he is. Even if you defeated Zeus, he wouldn’t praise you,” Carina Barbossa said, smoothing things with a smile.
Bella wasn’t offended; her methods against the Grim Reaper were cunning: “Well, it’s okay. Seeing how close you and your father are makes me happy. I just came to say hi. I’ll be returning now.”
“Please wait a moment,” Carina Barbossa stopped her.
She seemed to exchange some information with Hector Barbossa before turning back to ask Bella, “How’s your relationship with your father?”
Her relationship with Charlie?
Bella thought for a moment: “It’s not bad. My father and mother divorced—you had the concept of marriage in your time, right? I’m discussing introducing a new girlfriend to Charlie, my father, with another girl.”
It was
It was a secret, so she shared the plan she and Natasha had roughly.
She hadn’t lied; Charlie and Natasha’s mother, Samantha, did have a bit of a thing, secretly calling and texting each other, thinking they were fooling Bella and Natasha, but the two had long noticed.
“Hmm? That’s interesting! I’m starting to like you, young lady!”
Men’s points of interest are different from women’s. Old Barbossa’s expression changed visibly, but seeing Carina Barbossa by his side, he wisely did not delve further into the topic.
Carina Barbossa looked a bit speechless. In her era, people’s lifespans were short, and it was common for children to lose their parents before reaching adulthood, just as she had. She had just found a boyfriend when her father passed away, although he was an unnatural death.
She organized her thoughts and said, “We’re not in your world. We died in our times, and now we only meet briefly through the spirits’ connection.”
This statement seemed to delve into concepts of time and space, and Bella didn’t quite understand, waiting silently for the other to continue.
Carina and Hector Barbossa’s hands clasped tightly together: “We had just met when he left me. I never enjoyed a day of fatherly love.”
“It must be Calypso, that bitch cursing us!” Barbossa’s tone conveyed resentment when he mentioned the sea goddess, surprising Bella. What did this mean? Her small arms and legs, was she supposed to take on a sea goddess?
Carina Barbossa stated her purpose: “My spirit is here, along with my memories, love, and knowledge. But I’m not exactly Carina Barbossa anymore. The mortal part of Carina Barbossa died long ago, in Havana, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.”
