Marvel's Princess - Chapter 54
Being called a “child of the sea” by Barbossa, Bella felt that even if she wasn’t skilled in naval combat, she should at least be capable of it!
After a quick preparation, she headed to the school’s indoor swimming pool to practice. To her surprise, she was shockingly fast in the water, seemingly unchecked by the water flow, which instead seemed to propel her forward, easily outpacing a few younger students in a swimming class—and that was using just a fraction of her strength.
She felt she could break world records even with one leg tied up. She left the pool before her swimming coach could be astonished by her skills.
Returning home, she instructed Ghost Shaw to keep out of sight and called Charlie to inform him she was handling some college admission matters. Soon after, Bella took a flight to Florida.
As the name Pirates of the Caribbean suggests, pirates primarily operated around the Caribbean Sea. In the United States, Florida is the closest to the Caribbean.
The flight was uneventful—no hijacking, explosions, and, thankfully, no viral outbreaks. However, she didn’t land in Miami as planned but ended up in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bella rented a car and followed the compass’s directions, driving south.
Just as she was about to leave Atlanta, she learned the reason for the plane’s early landing: a hurricane was passing through Florida, preventing any aircraft from landing there.
To Bella, a hurricane was a novelty, but to the locals, it was all too common.
The United States is known as “Tornado Alley,” facing 1,000 to 2,000 tornadoes annually, averaging about three daily!
With frequent winds on land and at sea, hurricanes form due to geographical location, climatic conditions, and atmospheric circulation. As for the exact formation? Sorry, Bella, who often delved into arcane studies, couldn’t grasp it either.
As she neared Florida, the hurricane’s intimidating force grew.
She had never seen a hurricane before in her past life; now, she was witnessing its ferocity.
Rain pounded on the windshield, and the strong winds tossed roadside trees and billboards around. Although she had dealt with the Grim Reaper, Bella was still somewhat anxious, cautiously watching the buildings on either side, fearing that a falling tree might strike her.
The compass needle pointed south, and although it seemed that direction led straight into the hurricane, she continued firmly.
Gainesville.
This city in north-central Florida is known for producing fruits, vegetables, and tobacco. It’s a trading hub with well-developed industry and one of the most livable cities on the East Coast when hurricanes aren’t a factor.
Along the way, the National Guard and local police were organizing evacuations, and Bella heard over the car radio that over a million residents were being moved.
The rain intensified. She found the wind strength had increased since entering Florida. The roads were in poor condition, visibility was low, and she frequently had to stop to recalibrate the compass, which slowed her progress.
At a crossroads, she stopped her car. One sign pointed directly south towards Gainesville, and another to the southeast featured a cartoon alligator, seemingly pointing to an alligator farm.
Checking her compass, unsurprisingly, the needle indicated southeast.
“You ancestors are just teaming up to trick me!” she muttered angrily, turning the steering wheel and taking the smaller road towards the southeast.
Less than three kilometers later, she had to park her car on the side of the road. The rain was too heavy, and the road was completely flooded. She couldn’t afford to damage the rental car, being broke as she was.
She put on her raincoat and continued on foot.
The pouring rain severely hindered her visibility and hearing. Using a flashlight, she walked south along the highway with difficulty.
Unable to find a dagger, she picked up a piece of rebar from the roadside, sharpening one end to prepare for any upcoming battles.
As the rain grew heavier, the roadside floodwaters rose above her waist. Even though Bella tried to move along higher ground and occasionally leaped between buildings like a ninja, her shoes still got soaked.
She was prepared with a raincoat, a flashlight, and even a weapon, but she hadn’t thought to bring rain boots. Who would have expected such heavy rain?
Walking on, she suddenly saw an inflatable boat with police markings in the middle of the road. Wading through the water, she climbed aboard and found it easy to control, though the bloodstains near the motor made her glance around nervously.
The choppy and murky waters, swirling with debris from residents’ homes, hinted at something unusual below.
From a distance, faint cries of “Help!” echoed from a house, but Bella ignored them, focusing instead on the water beneath.
The creatures in the water weren’t fast but were stealthy and numerous!
Considering the nearby signs and the environment, she guessed she was about to face all.
igators!
Which idiot had nothing better to do than raise alligators on a farm? After this ordeal, she swore to sue them!
She tried to communicate with the alligators using her psychic abilities. Winning without fighting was ideal, but unexpectedly, these creatures harbored great resentment, seemingly unappeasable until they had bitten a few people.
Bella theorized that if it wasn’t for the influence of Calypso’s divine power, it must be the idiotic farm owner skinning alligators for bags and belts, inciting a collective grudge among the alligators against humans. At any rate, the alligators were now in a frenzy!
“Since communication is ineffective, you’re all going to die!”
The water was extremely turbid, and without X-ray vision, she could only rely on her subtle perceptions to estimate the approximate positions of several alligators.
Recalling that alligators crawl underwater, she patiently waited. As one began to surface, she swiftly acted.
With the thickness of a finger, the sharpened rebar aimed precisely at the emerging alligator and plunged.
“Thud” — the alligator’s skin was tough, offering considerable resistance, but the rebar still pierced through the alligator’s body with her strength.
This was a nearly three-meter-long American alligator, weighing close to 800 kilograms.
The rebar entered through the alligator’s back and protruded from its abdomen. Taken by surprise, the alligator was furious, thrashing violently. Bella didn’t struggle with it; using a fencing technique to transfer the thrust, she stepped back and deftly withdrew the rebar from the alligator’s body.
