Marvel's Princess - Chapter 60
Brother! My personality has changed so much, and you still have feelings for me? What do you see in me? Can I change it?
Bella intended to refuse, but the dance had already begun, and within her line of sight, she saw at least five male students approaching her.
It would be too strange not to dance at all, so if she was going to dance, she might choose someone pleasing to the eye.
“Okay,” she said, extending her hand.
Under Bella’s conscious effort, her interactions with Edward Cullen had been minimal, hardly more than nodding acquaintances. However, having recently been practicing swordplay with Carlisle Cullen and occasionally chatting at the vampire’s mansion, she had gradually become somewhat acquainted with him.
They were not strangers, but their relationship was far less intimate than in the original timeline.
Given the current relationship, the invitation to dance was a bit abrupt but still within an acceptable range.
As the music started, the two slowly entered the dance floor.
At this moment, there weren’t strict rules about what type of dance to perform; Bella and Edward chose a slow waltz.
Bella noticed that Edward’s gaze lingered on her face, and she deliberately steered the conversation, asking playfully, “Are you trying to read my mind again?”
“No.”
“Hmm, your words don’t match your thoughts.”
Bella tried to read his mind in return, but her ability in this area was weak unless dealing with pure spirits like Shaw, whose thoughts were completely open without any defenses. After two attempts without gaining any information, she gave up.
They danced gracefully together, the handsome man and the beautiful woman creating a visually appealing scene with their movements.
“What is your relationship with Jacob?” Edward suddenly asked.
Jacob? Bella couldn’t help but give him a scrutinizing look. Without her in the middle, these two shouldn’t have had any interaction. Now, what?
“You know Jacob? From the Quileute tribe?”
Edward smiled, his pale face and somewhat vacant eyes giving off an overpowering CEO vibe.
Unfortunately, this tactic didn’t work on Bella, who pressed him again.
Edward revealed the answer straightforwardly: “He was concerned when you left Forks, thinking of following you to protect you. Perhaps the scent of those three rogue vampires caused some misunderstanding, so he caused a scene at our place.”
Bella frowned: “Why didn’t you tell me about this? Did you hurt him?”
“No, he ran away.”
Edward emphasized the word “ran.”
Jacob was still triggered by the vampires’ power, awakening his werewolf lineage!
Bella had been trying to prevent Jacob from following his predecessors’ path. The Quileute’s werewolf lineage was problematic, especially the imprinting aspect, which was quite perverse.
In the original timeline, Edward and Jacob had vied intensely for Bella’s vacillating heart, with the wealthy and handsome Edward ultimately outmatching the tall but poor Jacob. If the story had ended there, it would have been normal.
But when Edward Cullen and Bella had a daughter, things took a bizarre turn.
Upon discovering that the girl was his destined imprint mate, Jacob’s attitude underwent a 180-degree shift, suddenly calling his former rival “dad” and the girl he had chased for ten years “mom,” then swearing an undying duty to protect his imprint, the newborn girl.
What do you love about her? It’s not even a physical attraction; she’s just a baby!
The whole situation was as absurd as Thanos and Bella celebrating Thanksgiving together and then singing a duet of gratitude!
Now, Bella felt nothing for Edward, and it was certain that Jacob wouldn’t have an imprint mate of his own. If he were to lead a normal life, marry, and have children, that would be one thing. But if his werewolf lineage were to awaken, he would have to reserve the place of his spouse for his imprint mate. Bella was sure that Jacob would never find his imprint mate in this lifetime.
“Although I can’t read your mind, your reaction is not what I expected. Why is that?” Edward asked.
Why else? I feel sorry for Jacob! The poor kid is destined to be a bachelor for life.
Bella deliberately steered the conversation towards a more ethereal topic: “I just feel some sympathy for your fates and that of the Quileute tribe. I thought your destinies wouldn’t intersect. Are you alright?”
As she spoke, she noticed the vampire across from her was a bit off, his hands shaking and eyes red. Was he developing Parkinson’s?
“The scent of your blood is mesmerizing to me; it’s incredibly tempting!!” Edward Cullen whispered, seeming to be in agony.
“Calm down!” Bella quickly glanced outside the dance floor. Alice Cullen and Emmett Cullen both shook their heads, indicating they were unaware.
“You have to hold back. If you dare bite me, I will retaliate, and then your Cullen family’s secret will be exposed.”
Bella spun gracefully, looking no different from normal dancing, but both she and the surrounding vampires were on high alert. If Edward were to lose control, they would rush in and restrain him.
Seeing Bella’s wariness and the movements of his siblings, Edward couldn’t help but laugh.
“My willpower isn’t that weak. I was mentally prepared when I invited you to dance.”
“Good, let’s talk about something lighter. What are your plans? You can’t just stay in Forks after graduating from high school, right?”
Although Bella now had a somewhat cordial relationship with the vampire family, she didn’t want them to stay in Forks; they were too dangerous for the town residents and the Quileute tribe.
“We’re going to Canada for college.” Under her scrutinizing gaze, Edward added, “But Alice is going to California.”
Bella turned to look at the black-haired vampire, who cheerfully waved at her.
“Why haven’t I heard Alice mention this? I thought you all disliked southern cities. Won’t she be exposed going to California alone?”
“You should ask her about that.”
Curious about why Alice Cullen would leave her family’s protection to study in California, Bella was also struggling to hold back. As the music stopped, the two of them left the dance floor together.
Just as Bella was about to speak with Alice, a hand reached out from the side, “Do you mind dancing with me?”
The subject of the previous conversation, young Jacob, looked hopeful and slightly stiff as he bowed, seemingly afraid she would refuse.
Jacob was Bella’s best friend in Forks, far surpassing those fair-weather friends and even the vampire family combined. Morally and emotionally, she couldn’t refuse this invitation.
“Of course, I’d love to.”
