Marvel's Princess - Chapter 61
Bella had just finished a dance, didn’t even have a sip of water, and now had to continue dancing.
She sighed inwardly at her own hardship and then smiled as she walked into the dance floor with Jacob.
Dancing with Jacob was much more relaxed, at least she didn’t have to worry about him going wild and biting her neck.
Jacob understood her very well; before she could speak, he showered her with a series of sincere and heartfelt compliments.
“You’re so beautiful! Just like the goddess Ix Chel!”
“Your eyes are as bright as the stars!”
“The shore tells the river: I can only keep your footprints in my heart. Oh night, I feel your beauty, just like the beloved woman who blew out her lamp.”
“Your name, every letter is magical! The sound it makes is so beautiful and melodious, each chapter of music it plays lingers in my ears, like the kind and good spirits in mythological stories, like the bright silver glow of the moon in a spring night, like the subtle sound of golden strings being plucked.”
Bella listened with pleasure; everything feared comparison, and this flattery was so comfortable! It’s much better than that guy who only knew how to bite necks! Now, in her heart, Jacob’s weight had undoubtedly increased.
Good comrade! He must have put a lot of thought into it.
Previously, Bella had limited knowledge of celebrities in Europe and America, so mentioning Edgar Allan Poe or Walt Whitman was completely useless. It seemed she had mentioned Marx casually, and Jacob remembered it. Now, using Marx’s love poems to praise her showed real effort!
Bella felt her previous judgment was flawed; Jacob was much better than a vampire. Besides being a bit poor, he had almost no other shortcomings. He was truly obedient and flattered her so comfortably.
Jacob’s compliments continued until the end of the dance, and Bella shook her head with a smile: “I’m not as good as you say.”
If everyone only praised her without involving personal feelings, she could dance like this all day!
Unfortunately, many things do not change according to her personal will.
“What job do you plan to do after graduation?”
Hearing Jacob’s question, she sighed softly; it seemed that those beautiful compliments would not be heard again.
Although a bit cruel, she still gently clarified: “I will continue my studies. I am quite smart, learning the languages and knowledge of various ethnic groups, and then I will travel the world to find those ancient ruins and the cultural heritage of different peoples.”
This answer was somewhat unexpected for Jacob but also within reason. He forced a smile and insisted on finishing the dance.
“You will definitely succeed, I am sure of it. I have to go now.”
He walked out of the venue heavily and coincidentally passed by Edward Cullen on his way out.
“Thank you for your invitation to the dance,” Edward said.
“You’re welcome,” Jacob replied.
The two passed by each other without much conversation or tension; today, they were both losers.
A vampire, after all, was more composed than Jacob. Having lived for over a hundred years wasn’t for nothing, and he could still hold a wine glass and pretend to be deep.
Jacob was extremely dejected, not wanting to stay a moment longer, and walked out with his head down.
Bella’s rejection was very clear; they were not from the same world. What could he do? There was no hope.
“Actually, you still have a chance, young man.”
As he was retrieving his motorcycle outside the venue, a tall black man in a black leather trench coat and an eye patch suddenly walked out from the shadows.
The black man had scars on his forehead, neck, and hands. He was extremely tall, yet this giant had been hiding nearby without Jacob’s keen sense detecting him.
The one-eyed black man continued, “Your vision is too narrow, and you haven’t undergone any training or hardships. Frankly, no ambitious woman would look at you. You have talent, but right now, you are far from being outstanding.”
Jacob was quite angry, being criticized so harshly at his age was hard to bear.
But he didn’t let his anger cloud his judgment. He ignored the man and pushed his motorcycle, intending to pass by.
The black man moved quickly, slipping a card into Jacob’s shirt pocket. “If you think it through, you can call this number anytime. We can train your abilities and lead you to success, rather than staying in this native tribe for a lifetime. By the way, we don’t use real names there; you can give yourself a nickname. How about Night Wolf?”
The one-eyed black man left quickly. Jacob took out the card and looked at it. There was only a phone number with no other information.
He wanted to throw the card away and continue living the life of his ancestors in the Quileute tribe, but the hope in his heart made him hesitate. Maybe there was still a chance?
Check it out; he could always run if it doesn’t work!
Sensing Jacob and Edward Cullen leaving one after the other, Bella didn’t try to stop them. To her, these two were already passersby. If they gave up their unrealistic ideas, being friends was fine; otherwise, forget it.
She had no idea that the one-eyed man used her as a pretext to recruit subordinates.
At this moment, she was still asking Alice Cullen, “Why are you going to California alone? To study?”
The short-haired vampire smiled and said, “To find my love.”
This really startled Bella. She even thought the other party had fallen for her for a moment, but then looking at the vampire’s expression, she felt something was wrong.
“You’ve confused me. Doesn’t your family oppose it? Letting you go to California alone?”
“Aren’t you here? If I’m in trouble, you would help me, right?”
Alice Cullen’s eyes were a bit dreamy: “My prediction tells me that in San Francisco, California, I will find a not-so-perfect love. I have to go and see.”
Is she really that capricious?
Bella was a bit puzzled. The Cullen family’s vampires, from Carlisle Cullen onwards, had all secretly integrated part of the elusive X-gene. In addition to their vampire abilities, they each had a unique superpower.
Among them, Alice Cullen could foresee a very vague power.
“If you foresee the ending isn’t good, why still go?”
“My heart wants me to go. Yes, I am dead, my heart no longer beats, and my blood no longer flows, but my mind is still there. If something interesting happens, of course, I have to see it.”
The female vampire’s thinking was hard to understand. If it were Bella, knowing in advance that the outcome wasn’t good, she wouldn’t go no matter what.
But if she insisted on going, there was nothing Bella could do.
Telling her to call if needed, they ended the conversation.
Forks High School’s graduation dance ended punctually at 10:30. Charlie picked up Bella and went home, and she fell asleep as soon as she lay down.
