Marvel's Princess - Chapter 64
Bella wasn’t one to back down. She glanced at Natasha’s bear-patterned socks and said, “Very cute, they suit you well.”
Natasha flashed her a bright smile, hands ready to strangle her, while Bella shrugged indifferently.
The contents of the discarded waste barrel were unclear, appearing thick and greenish.
Samples were taken and sent to a Phoenix lab for testing. As the town sheriff, this was as far as Samantha could go.
Leaving the remaining work to her deputy, Peter, Samantha took Charlie and Bella to the town bar for a chat.
In America, you can wear makeup at 14, date at 16, and own a gun at 18, but you have to wait until 21 to drink!
The two sheriffs were drinking and chatting while the two girls sipped on soft drinks.
Natasha looked at Bella knowingly as if to say, “See, you’re in the same boat as me.”
Their conversation was casual and friendly.
Samantha, sounding like a stepmother, asked about Bella’s studies, “How are your grades in high school, Bella? Do you think you’ll have a hard time getting into Stanford?”
Bella was quite proud of her grades. Having been to college in her past life, American high school knowledge seemed incredibly simple.
“I’m doing pretty well, all A’s.”
Natasha mimicked Bella’s tone, drawing out her words, “Yeah, she’s all A’s.”
Samantha gently slapped her daughter and then looked pleased, “That’s great, better than Natasha. She often messes up her exams. Since you’re friends, keep an eye on her for me.”
Bella chuckled and, with an elder’s air, put her arm around the young beauty’s shoulder, “I’ll make sure Natasha studies. You guys chat, we’re going out!”
Playing the third wheel was no fun, so the two girls quickly left.
They were much more relaxed as they stepped out of the bar without the parents around.
“You dared to call me small!”
“You dared to mock my socks!?”
“Hmph, I’m not going to stoop to your level, kid.”
“Who’s the kid here!?”
“This is what you call Prosperity Town! God, where’s the prosperity in this town?” Bella pointed at a half-human-high cactus, dry and lifeless.
“It used to be prosperous.”
“When I called and asked if I should dress up, you said yes! Now look, the townspeople are all giving me weird looks. I would’ve changed clothes if I’d known!”
Natasha laughed heartily, prompting another glare from Bella.
As they walked and bickered, they encountered a rather clean-cut middle-aged man dressed in a plaid shirt, jeans, and leather shoes. He didn’t look wealthy.
“Hi, Natasha,” the man said warmly.
Natasha glanced at him, and nodded slightly, which was her way of acknowledging him.
The man glanced at Bella, seemingly curious about this unfamiliar woman but smiled courteously and walked away.
“Is that the guy you mentioned?” Bella asked in a low voice after he walked away.
“Yes, he’s supposedly my mom’s first love. Couldn’t make it in the big city, so he came back to find my mom.”
Bella took another look. The idea that this man’s family had a mine seemed doubtful. He dressed like an average person, and his appearance didn’t suggest that he could outmatch Charlie. Charlie, who fathered Bella, wasn’t bad-looking and seemed more reliable and steady!
Bella had confidence in her dad.
She was not worried about Charlie or Samantha; she was concerned about her outfit. She looked at the yellow dust on the roadside, then at her high heels and skirt—completely inappropriate. Would she have time to go back to Phoenix and change?
“No refusing! Quick, give me your car keys.” Natasha extended her hand.
Considering they’d be using the truck a lot, Bella had made a deal with Shaw. At the moment, the pickup was very compliant, staying put except for occasionally stepping out at night for a breath of fresh air.
Bella tossed the keys to Natasha and sat in the passenger seat.
Natasha’s driving skills were remarkable, the vehicle was incredibly steady under her control, and she drove very fast.
“How is this truck modified? Is Jacob still in Forks?”
Bella shook her head repeatedly, “No, he’s not.”
She was relieved that Jacob had left; otherwise, if he met Natasha, her secret might be exposed.
They passed a few young men on motorcycles who shouted greetings at Natasha, but she sped past them by pressing the accelerator.
“Your boyfriend?”
“No way, just some kids.”
They drove around the town and quickly handed the truck over to Charlie. What could the two girls accomplish with the truck? Nothing but wasting it. This show-off vehicle was better suited for someone who needed it.
Charlie happily drove the truck, taking Samantha’s mother for a ride around.
“Let’s ride motorcycles. Can you ride?” Natasha suggested to Bella.
Why do you all love riding motorcycles? Jacob, Natasha, even the unseen Captain America, Cyclops, and Wolverine probably do too…
Bella didn’t want to admit she couldn’t ride and found an excuse, “I’m wearing high heels, and you want me to ride a motorcycle?”
Natasha didn’t give it much thought, “I’ll take you. There’s a canyon outside town where I love practicing.”
Bella sat on the back seat, hugging Natasha’s slim waist.
Five minutes into the ride, Bella had an epiphany.
“You did this on purpose! You’re jealous of my beauty!”
Bella’s hair was blown into a tangled mess. No amount of hydration could combat the blazing sun.
She was very angry, expressing her dissatisfaction.
“I’m in the same boat! Enjoy the adrenaline rush!” Natasha pushed the motorcycle to its limit, speeding out of the town.
If Natasha’s talent for driving cars was a five, then her wild personality made her motorcycle driving a ten!
The hot wind slapped against Bella’s face. She felt wind in her collar, sand filling her shoes! She had to hold on tightly to Natasha’s waist to avoid falling off.
Their short clothes made their arms and abdomens touch closely, but Bella felt nothing unusual. They sped out of the town in no time.
