Marvel's Princess - Chapter 70
Bella and Natasha fired continuously while Charlie, Samantha, and a few armed townsfolk joined in to help. The remaining townsfolk were using anything they could find to block the breach.
With seven or eight guns firing at close range, it took a full half-minute of concentrated shooting to finally kill the giant tarantula.
But the damage the tarantula caused to the iron gate was irreparable. A large number of spiders poured in through the hole, breaking the defensive line instantly. Over thirty townsfolk were dragged away, leaving the remaining men, women, and children in a state of sheer panic.
Bella and the others hurriedly retreated, abandoning the dining area, service area, and food court. They regrouped in the electronics and furniture section, using various pieces of furniture to block the doors. Eventually, they all retreated to the electronics section.
Electronics were considered relatively valuable items back then, so the mall took more care with that area. It had its own entrance, good soundproofing, and thicker walls, and the entire area was designed with a grid layout. Bella and the others joined the fight, firing desperately and using numerous pieces of furniture to block several gaps, barely holding the second line of defense.
The spiders, attracted by the smells in the food court, didn’t swarm the electronics section, allowing the survivors to fend them off with difficulty.
“Are we going to die?”
“Mommy! I want my mommy!”
The survivors were reaching their emotional limits. Bella and the others were feeling helpless too. Faced with the overwhelming spider army, their firearms were becoming less effective as they were running out of ammunition.
“We need to retreat to the basement, use the mines to leave town!” Samantha kept shouting.
Bella disagreed, seeing the mine plan as a huge pitfall.
She lowered her voice, “We can’t go to the mines! These spiders didn’t appear out of nowhere. Where were they hiding before? Could it be the mines?”
Samantha’s face showed clear panic. Retreating to the mines was instinctive; with the front door breached, what other option was there?
Bella had a plan to prevent them from fleeing into the mines. “I’ll drive and draw the spiders away. You take the survivors and head south to Tucson for help!”
Charlie was the first to disagree, thinking his daughter was on a suicide mission.
Bella pushed his arm away. “I can handle this. You organize the others to gather supplies and be ready to break out once I’ve drawn the spiders’ attention!”
The first floor was already inaccessible, overrun with giant spiders. Bella moved like a parkour expert, grabbing onto the window frame in the electronics section and using a drainpipe to pull herself up to the second floor.
A few spiders were on the second floor, but she shot them all dead.
As she changed a magazine, Natasha caught up. “Your driving skills are awful. Let me come with you!”
Bella jumped from the second-floor window onto the pickup truck’s roof and then helped Natasha into the driver’s seat.
She quickly looked around.
Her charm didn’t work on spiders. So far, her allure only affected normal human males; even human females were immune, let alone spiders.
Fortunately, she had consulted a townsman who knew a lot about spiders before coming out.
While Natasha started the pickup, Bella fired repeatedly, injuring three brightly colored, large, strong-legged spiders that seemed to be females.
Ignoring the disgust, she used a steel cable to tie the spider’s legs to the pickup’s rear bumper.
“You’re going to get us killed! Get in!” Natasha reached out her hand quickly.
Bella grabbed her hand and jumped into the passenger seat. The pickup roared to life, crushing a couple of spider heads as it sped away.
Natasha drove while Bella had the heavier task of attracting the spiders.
She fired the Glock police handgun at the rear, hitting the three female spiders. Two of them had their eyes shot out, and their swollen abdomens were riddled with bullet holes.
This brutal attack on the ‘ladies’ incited public outrage. Coupled with Natasha’s erratic driving, hitting spiders left and right, their ‘heinous’ actions finally provoked the spider army.
More and more spiders poured out of the mall, converging in their direction.
Spiders relied on their legs for hearing. Thirty, a hundred, a thousand spiders started hunting the little pest in the truck. Natasha skillfully maneuvered the pickup, repeatedly breaking through the encircling spiders.
Familiarity with the terrain, excellent driving skills, and a good vehicle—these combined to let the pickup race back and forth through Prosperity Town’s streets.
While driving, they unexpectedly encountered a colossal creature.
A spider, five meters tall and the size of a house, appeared in their sight.
This spider’s markings were much more vibrant than the others, its legs incredibly sharp, easily piercing the concrete road. Unlike the other mindlessly predatory spiders, its movements were more deliberate and graceful!
Hearing the pickup’s roar, the giant spider turned around, revealing its front to Bella and Natasha.
Its body was green, with a slightly raised thorax. Complex patterns converged into an old human face. As Bella looked at it, she felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if she were gazing at a particularly kind friend.
Where did this thing come from? This wasn’t in the movie!
“Come to me.”
“Come, I’m a friend.”
A flow of consciousness beyond the form of language gently tapped at their minds, trying to draw Bella and Natasha to the giant spider.
What the hell? Even a spider can use mind control now?
Bella quickly summoned her psychic energy, activating a mental shield to suppress the discomfort.
She had enough expertise in mental defenses to resist such mind control, but Natasha didn’t.
The young beauty’s face turned pale. Though her brain sensed something was wrong and tried to resist, her body seemed uncontrollable. She reached out a trembling hand to open the car door, but Bella quickly stopped her.
At this point, she couldn’t hide her abilities anymore. The mental shield was a spell she had mastered after her psychic awakening and could extend to others.
A milky white energy swirl enveloped Bella’s right hand as she gently touched Natasha’s back.
“Huh? What did you just put into me?” Natasha immediately noticed the change, looking at Bella with shock.
“Your wording is too easily misunderstood. It’s just a strong mental suggestion, purely psychological. What did you think it was? Divine intervention?” Bella deflected, trying to explain it away with modern science.
