My Name Is Namikaze Naruto - Chapter 33
Others naturally couldn’t see what was happening in Sasuke’s mind then.
Especially those fangirls.
They looked at Sasuke with eyes full of admiration and affection.
They simply believed that this cold demeanor was one of Sasuke’s greatest charms.
On the other hand, some of the boys looked at Sasuke with annoyance, not for any reason, just the typical youth rivalry. Even in the original series, Naruto wasn’t the only one who felt this way. It’s just that as the protagonist, Naruto’s feelings were more pronounced and noticeable. In reality, in any world and any era, students like Sasuke would be the target of most boys’ disdain.
Including Kiba Inuzuka, and seniors like Neji Hyuga and Rock Lee, all wanted to defeat Sasuke.
This was a normal part of the world of boys.
Of course.
Naruto, in this life, wasn’t so idle.
Besides, in a real one-on-one fight.
Naruto could easily crush Sasuke now, not because of anything else, but simply because Naruto had just experienced a life-and-death battle three days ago. For a ninja, having fought to the death made a world of difference in strength. The person might be the same, with the same skills, but one battle could create such a significant disparity.
The thoughts of these boys and girls in the classroom were almost written on their faces.
Iruka, standing at the podium, seemed to keep a neutral expression, but he shook his head slightly inwardly.
“Alright, next, I will announce the team assignments. Each team will consist of three members. When you hear your name, respond and prepare to be taken by your supervising ninja. Understood?”
“Yes, teacher!”
“Good. First, Team One: Shima Saki, Matsuoka Shohei, Nagano Hiro.”
“Yes!”
“Team Two: Kami Goro, Tada Nomura.”
“Yes!”
“Team Three…”
Though many girls hoped to be teamed up with Sasuke, and many ordinary civilian ninjas hoped to be teamed up with top-performing classmates from noble families, they were destined to be disappointed. The seemingly fair and just team assignments were actually predetermined long ago.
Who would form a team with whom?
Who would not form a team with whom?
There were invisible rules.
Ninjas from noble families were unlikely to form teams with civilians.
Ninjas with special statuses were rarely assigned to teams with ordinary people.
Moreover, the supervising ninja assigned to each team revealed a lot. Most teams were led by Chunins, but special teams were led by Jonins, even the strongest Jonins. When Naruto read the original series in his previous life, he thought Jonins led all graduating classes. Only later did he realize what a Jonin represented.
Setting aside the catastrophic battles later on.
From the time of the First Hokage’s death.
Through several Great Ninja Wars.
Jonins represented the highest combat power of a ninja village.
You couldn’t expect the village’s Kage to be on the battlefield daily, right?
In any ninja village, even the Five Great Nations, there wouldn’t be enough Jonins to act as babysitters for newly graduated rookie ninjas!
During wartime, Jonins were the combat power.
In peacetime, Jonins were the ones completing high-level missions, bringing substantial rewards to the village!
Therefore!
Teams led by Jonins were the most special or the most valued by the village.
The Ino-Shika-Cho trio was always the staunchest supporters of the Hokage, so their supervising Jonin was the Third Hokage’s son, Asuma Sarutobi.
Hinata Hyuga was the eldest daughter of the Hyuga clan.
Kiba Inuzuka’s family held significant status and influence in the Leaf Village.
And Shino Aburame was no exception.
Not only was the Aburame clan close to the Hokage, but they also had members trained by Danzo in the ANBU.
A Jonin also led this team of three. Although Kurenai Yuhi had only recently been promoted, she was recognized by the Third Hokage (ninja promotions required the Hokage’s approval and a corresponding promotion order).
The previous graduating class’s team, consisting of Neji Hyuga, Rock Lee, and Tenten, was led by Might Guy, currently representing the strongest combat power in the Leaf Village. Neji was also from the Hyuga clan. Although Tenten seemed ordinary, her use of ninja tools and nonchalant attitude indicated that her family, even if not powerful fighters, was definitely wealthy. And Rock Lee was favored by Might Guy.
Returning to Naruto’s team.
Perhaps only Sakura Haruno was the most ordinary character from the original series.
She had seemingly impressive chakra control abilities.
But they weren’t particularly useful.
Sakura came from a truly ordinary family. Later, she seemed to be favored by Tsunade, who took her as a disciple. Whether it was because Tsunade saw talent in her or due to Naruto’s influence, only heaven knew.
The reason she was placed in Naruto and Sasuke’s team.
It could be because of her ordinariness.
It wasn’t necessarily Sakura.
She was just randomly chosen among the ordinary graduates.
To put it bluntly.
Most of the graduates in this classroom were considered mediocre by the village. Their teams would mostly be led by Chunins. Expecting to team up with geniuses? Hoping for a strong Jonin leader?
They were dreaming.
“Next is Team Seven!”
After announcing six teams of what could be considered cannon fodder.
Finally, it was time for Team Seven.
No deviation from the original story.
Exactly as Naruto anticipated.
“Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno!”
As Iruka called out these names.
“What!?”
The girls who had hoped to team up with Sasuke showed obvious disappointment. Some even looked at Sakura with envy and jealousy as she beamed with joy and excitement.
That big-foreheaded girl got to be on Sasuke’s team!?
