Nagato in One Piece - Chapter 12
“Restoring chakra took some time.”
“Sorry for letting you misunderstand that the gold here could be taken so easily.”
Nagato stood up as he spoke.
Three days ago, he had descended from Skypiea with the Golden Bell, the golden bell tower, and the golden ship. Following the Log Pose, he arrived at Water 7.
Though he didn’t travel non-stop, he only took brief rests on two deserted islands along the way. The journey consumed a lot of energy, and if it weren’t for his Rinnegan and his massive chakra reserves comparable to a Tailed Beast, he wouldn’t have made it. Upon reaching the coast of Water 7, he immediately sat down to rest, taking an hour to recover.
It might seem long to take a whole hour to restore his strength and chakra.
Even when he was crippled, Nagato could gather all his chakra to use a powerful Shinra Tensei and recover in just a moment before casting the equally exhausting Chibaku Tensei.
This demonstrated the depth and quick recovery of Nagato’s Uzumaki chakra reserves, even more so now that he was healthy and stronger.
It might seem like Nagato had weakened, but in reality, it was because he had expended his lifespan to achieve his previous feats against Naruto. Now, he wasn’t willing to recklessly sacrifice his body to bring down Skypiea’s gold. Although it was strenuous, it didn’t reach the point of exhausting his core. Thus, it took him an hour to recover.
Fully restored, Nagato’s words made the onlookers take three steps back. It wasn’t that they were timid, but rather Nagato’s initial move had directly killed dozens of the Cannibal Pirates, their bones shattered, bodies covered in blood—an intimidating display.
Nagato, meanwhile, assessed his strength against this world’s people, noting his own shortcomings.
“Though the burden from these three massive objects is heavy, it shouldn’t exceed the load of full combat.” Nagato concluded internally. “The Navy’s Admirals Akainu and Aokiji fought for ten days and nights. Clearly, there’s still a significant gap between me and the top figures here.”
Direct combat would have been the most straightforward comparison, but Luffy was still too weak to serve as a benchmark for Nagato. He had to imagine the gap between himself and the top fighters.
As he prepared to move the gold into Water 7 for exchange, a middle-aged man in a suit with a thin mustache approached cautiously, smiling politely. Bowing at a 45-degree angle, he introduced himself, “I am Hanks, the president of GOLD Bank here in Water 7. Sir, do you need to exchange your gold? We can provide you with the most professional and fair service.”
“Hmm?” Nagato glanced at him, making the smiling man break into a cold sweat. “Seeing an opportunity and acting immediately is commendable.”
“Indeed!” Hanks responded, excitement and joy flushing his face. Fearing any mistakes, he hurriedly continued, “GOLD Bank is the largest bank in Water 7. Please come with us. Our service will surely satisfy you.”
Before Nagato could speak, Hanks added, “Moving the gold is primarily for your privacy. If possible, we can start the transport now.”
Nagato nodded. If he were to exchange the gold, it wouldn’t be in public.
Hanks had already arranged for over a hundred strong workers, two massive carts, and a series of hoisting equipment.
In the distance, as Hanks gestured, two of the highest-grade King Bulls were ready in Water 7’s waterways.
Hanks was well-prepared and clearly invested heavily in this opportunity. However, compared to the potential value of the deal, it was worth the gamble.
“Very good.” Nagato was pleased. Though he could carry the gold himself faster, Hanks’s thorough consideration was impressive. “Let them proceed.”
“Yes!” After receiving Nagato’s approval, Hanks efficiently directed the workers to start the task.
From the moment Hanks appeared, the crowd buzzed with renewed chatter.
“Who is that, daring to approach that monster?”
“Is he not afraid of death…? Oh, it’s GOLD Bank’s president!”
“So he’s the president of the city’s bank—quite the figure.”
“Indeed…! But technically, he’s just the president of the Water 7 branch. GOLD’s headquarters are on the Red Line!”
“I see…”
Seeing Hanks and Nagato finalize the massive gold deal, the onlookers were even more astonished.
“Bringing such an enormous amount of gold—he really came just to exchange it!”
“Of course, aside from the sheer size, gold needs to be liquidated to be useful.”
“I can’t imagine how much money it would take to cover this enormous amount of gold…how much would it be…”
The sheer, terrifying wealth in front of the crowd made them dizzy with dreams of riches, even sparking a sense of awe toward Hanks and Nagato.
Even Barry, who Samuel had punched away, was staring wide-eyed at the giant gold being loaded onto the cart.
Money could make the world go round, and the allure of gold, even just a glimpse, could drive people crazy.
“By the way, may I know your name, sir?” Hanks respectfully asked Nagato after organizing the workers.
“Nagato Uzumaki,” he replied, then questioned, “Hanks, let’s be honest. Can your bank alone handle this amount of gold?”
Hanks immediately patted his chest. “Of course! As I mentioned, GOLD Bank is the largest in Water 7…”
“No need for empty words,” Nagato interrupted. “Tell me, how long will it take?”
Nagato continued, “Obviously, no bank would hold cash equivalent to this amount of gold—that’s not practical. If you want to handle this alone, give me an acceptable timeframe.”
“Well…” Hanks hesitated, unable to determine the exact time and unsure of Nagato’s expectations.
“I believe that once the news spreads, other banks, jewelers, and anyone interested in gold in this city will come to me.” Nagato patted Hanks’s shoulder. “As a reward for finding me first, help me filter out the serious and capable buyers for a joint negotiation.”
Clearly, this wasn’t something Hanks wanted to do, so Nagato sweetened the deal.
“Of course, I will prioritize dealing with you, and you’ll have the first-hand information. GOLD Bank will be my first choice under equal conditions.”
“Can we strike a deal?” Nagato asked calmly. “Hanks.”
Though Hanks felt cornered by the client, Nagato’s conditions were acceptable. He ultimately put on a professional smile and answered, “Of course, I am happy to serve you.”
