Nagato in One Piece - Chapter 36
The Overheat whip shot towards Nagato’s chest, but he didn’t dodge. Instead, he lifted Diamante, using him as a shield.
“You scum!” Doflamingo cursed, trembling with anger, but he had no choice but to flick his right hand, diverting the whip’s trajectory.
“Ah… what a despicable guy, using Diamante as a shield~” Trebol snorted, dragging his long snot as he grumbled.
“Your subordinate’s life in exchange for dismantling the Birdcage, how about it?” Nagato asked, holding Diamante by his hair and dangling him in front of Doflamingo.
Seeing Nagato treating Diamante this way made Doflamingo even angrier. But Nagato had no intention of being cruel; he just couldn’t grab Diamante by the neck with one hand, and gripping his thin clothes was unreliable, leaving him no choice but to handle him like this.
Doflamingo’s fingers twitched continuously, his expression shifting between light and dark as he struggled to make a decision.
Was Nagato telling the truth? Had he done something to Diamante? Even if he could save Diamante, would he immediately dismantle the Birdcage and contradict what he had told Dressrosa?
The last point alone made him hesitate! Admitting defeat in front of a bunch of lowly citizens was more humiliating than death!
“Doffy, Doffy!” Seeing Doflamingo’s delay, Trebol panicked. “You have to save Diamante. He doesn’t look good.”
Doflamingo’s already agitated mind was further disturbed by Trebol’s incessant nagging, but seeing Pica also watching him, he swallowed his urge to lash out at Trebol.
“Dammit…” Doflamingo gritted his teeth, then, in a flash, donned his usual smile, his rapid change of expression unsettling. “Deal. Diamante is my closest family! As for your lives, I can take them myself!”
Despite his vile and brutal nature, Doflamingo’s unyielding self-control had allowed him to rise from the depths of hell to become the feared Heavenly Demon. His extreme tenacity made him laugh even in the face of humiliation, reinforcing his subordinates’ loyalty.
“Doffy! I’m so moved! You truly are our great king!” Trebol cheered, his snot flinging about in excitement.
Pica and the other executives looked at Doflamingo with respect and admiration.
“Doffy…” Diamante, hanging weakly in Nagato’s grip, spoke up. “Don’t believe them… my heart… Law took it!”
“Hmm?” Doflamingo’s face darkened, ready to question Nagato.
In the air, Nagato swung the reassembled Diamante with all his might towards the Birdcage, launching him without regard for his life, then followed with a repulsive force to send him crashing into the Birdcage.
“Tricks from a worthless scum!” Doflamingo cursed, forced to retract the Birdcage while leaping towards Diamante.
As the Birdcage, which had been closing in on Dressrosa with the Royal Plateau at its center, halted, the countless wire-like threads retracted from the ground into the sky. The Parasite Threads within the Birdcage vanished, freeing the people who collapsed in relief.
Meanwhile, Violet cried tears of joy at Kalifa’s location upon seeing the retracted Birdcage.
“I’ve intercepted some of the lines. We can broadcast,” Kalifa, sweating from the effort, announced.
“Then~” Blueno swayed his head. “What should we broadcast? I’m unsure…”
“I have something to say!” Violet interrupted, her gaze determined as she looked at Blueno and Kalifa.
“Princess, you…” Kalifa hesitated, uncertain if Violet’s words would align with Nagato’s plan, and worried that provoking Doflamingo further could lead to their demise. “You’ve already done so much for Dressrosa. As the princess, I haven’t done anything!” Violet, deeply grateful to Kalifa and Nagato for achieving what she had long desired but couldn’t accomplish, insisted. “Even though I might be useless, please let me show my support!”
Without waiting for Kalifa’s approval, Violet grabbed the microphone and spoke…
“People of Dressrosa, I am Riku Violet.”
Violet’s voice echoed through the broadcast, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
“It’s Princess Violet!” someone exclaimed in delight.
“Today, so much has happened, and many might be experiencing sorrow.”
“But I do not regret exposing the Donquixote Family. We’ve learned the truth, regained our memories, and found our friends and family!”
“I must confess, it was a group who found me and led me to reveal and challenge the Donquixote Family. Their names are: Uzumaki Nagato, Trafalgar Law, Rob Lucci, Kaku, Jabura, Blueno, Kumadori, Fukurou, and Kalifa!”
Violet’s voice began to choke with emotion.
“I’m sorry, everyone. For eight years, I lacked the courage and ability to reveal Doflamingo’s true nature…”
Listening to Violet’s sincere words, people in the streets, corners, and homes shouted towards the sky.
“No need to apologize, Princess Violet!”
“We were deceived by Doflamingo, leading the Riku Family to such suffering!”
“It’s Doflamingo’s evil!”
…
Violet couldn’t hear these words, her face streaked with tears. “Just now, we were again threatened and manipulated by Doflamingo. I was powerless.”
“But the Birdcage is gone. I know it’s them; they are fighting Doflamingo!”
“Doflamingo was right; they are heroes! We may not have the strength to defeat Doflamingo, but please, believe with me—they will help us defeat Doflamingo!!!”
Through the broadcast, people saw Violet’s tears. Inspired, the citizens of Dressrosa shouted back.
“Heroes, please help us defeat Doflamingo!”
“Good luck!”
“You must win!”
Many spirited men grabbed weapons, ready to storm the palace.
“Hey, hey!” Suddenly, a house door by the roadside burst open, or rather, the entire wall with the door collapsed. A five-meter-tall man stepped out, stopping those rushing with firearms to confront Doflamingo. “What are you talking about?”
The fallen door bore a smiley face—the symbol of the Donquixote Family. Those who regained their memories recognized these marked buildings as secret Donquixote facilities—the dark places where people were sent to the Scrap Yard and turned into toys.
“Who… who are you? Why did you come from there?” a passerby asked in shock.
“Me? I’m Anderson, captain of the Shield Pirate Crew, a two-hundred-million bounty pirate, the ‘Sturdy Shield’ Anderson!” The giant man thumped his chest, causing a booming echo that made everyone’s ears ring. “I just came up through the passage from below!”
“Pi… pirate!” Seeing a notorious pirate suddenly appear, the passerby stammered in fear.
But he quickly steadied himself, feeling emboldened by his earlier resolve to fight Doflamingo. Grabbing Anderson’s arm, he exclaimed, “You must have been turned into a toy by Doflamingo’s men and worked below! Those heroes saved you, right?”
“Saved? I owe them nothing!” Anderson retorted. “I’m Anderson. I was tricked by that scum Doflamingo, turned into a toy, and stuck in this place for eight years. I only have grudges, no mysterious benefactors!”
“I’m talking about the people who turned you back from a toy!” the passerby shouted, “So, they are your benefactors! Now they’re fighting Doflamingo. You can help them; you’re a two-hundred-million bounty pirate!”
Similar scenes played out across Dressrosa…
At the entrance to the executive tower.
“So that’s how it is. Even if I’m called ‘the Deceiver’ Joe, I don’t ignore my debts.”
Corrida Colosseum ruins.
“The palace, huh? Doflamingo, you dared turn me, ‘Golden Plunderer’ Clay, into a toy. You won’t get away with it!”
