Nagato in One Piece - Chapter 43
“Is that…”
“The heroes! The names Princess Viola mentioned one by one: Uzumaki Nagato, Trafalgar Law, Rob Lucci…”
“Look at who’s in his hand!”
“Am I seeing things? Is that really…the Heavenly Yaksha?!”
“The Donquixote Family is finished…!”
“Doflamingo! They defeated Doflamingo!!!”
…
From initial commotion to excited shouting, followed by a moment of stunned silence upon seeing Doflamingo, and finally erupting into ecstatic cheers, the entire city of Dressrosa was in an uproar. As Nagato, holding Doflamingo, appeared in the sky above the center of Dressrosa with his group, they witnessed this scene.
“Lucci, contact Kalifa,” Nagato instructed Lucci, then headed towards the palace with everyone. “Tell them to meet us at the palace and have Owl bring Rebecca along.”
Following Nagato’s instructions, Lucci took out a Transponder Snail from his pocket and dialed Kalifa’s number, saying, “It’s over. Meet us at the palace.”
“Understood…” The Transponder Snail mimicked Kalifa’s relieved expression, vividly conveying her relief. “Seeing you all appear, I knew the plan had succeeded.”
Kalifa and Kumadori, accompanied by Viola, exited a secluded alleyway house, leaving Nagato’s barrier, and hurried towards the palace.
Nagato and his group found sofas and chairs to sit on in the palace hall. Those without seats either leaned against pillars or lay on the ground, all of them injured and exhausted, taking this rare moment to rest.
Ten minutes later, Kalifa and the others finally arrived.
“Princess Vio—”
Before Nagato could finish greeting, Viola rushed into his arms, burying her head in his chest, sobbing, “Mr. Nagato, thank you for saving this country!”
Except for Kumadori, the six CP9 agents exchanged glances.
Law watched silently, Joe and his group remained quiet while Cyrus understood.
Nagato was momentarily speechless, the words he had intended to say stuck in his throat.
Nagato’s feelings at this moment mirrored the slight awkwardness felt by the CP9 agents. From the beginning, they had planned to take control of Dressrosa, including capturing Rebecca as a bargaining chip for negotiations. Nagato didn’t believe that defeating Doflamingo and restoring the toys would easily grant him Dressrosa. Using Rebecca to threaten Viola was a powerful weapon in this endeavor.
“I’m sorry!” After holding Nagato for a while, Viola finally realized her actions and released him, covering her flushed face. “I was too impolite…”
The CP9 agents felt even more awkward. Jabra scratched his head to alleviate the discomfort. Viola’s glances at Nagato were clear enough in their meaning.
It was Cyrus who broke the awkwardness, stepping forward with joy and shouting, “Viola… it’s been a long time!”
Among those present, Cyrus understood Viola’s feelings the most. Both had been cast into despair by the Donquixote Family, living under Doflamingo’s shadow with hatred and love for their country but powerless to resist.
Nagato’s appearance, directly defeating the Donquixote Family and even killing Doflamingo, made him the heroic knight rescuing the princess in a fairy tale. Cyrus could easily imagine Viola’s excitement and admiration, as he himself was in awe of Nagato’s courage and strength.
So, he watched Viola and Nagato with a sense of relief rather than finding it abrupt. Seeing Viola’s apparent shyness, he stepped forward to reconnect with her.
Cyrus’s appearance immediately alleviated Viola’s awkwardness. Tears welled up in her eyes as she covered her mouth, “Brother-in-law…”
One of the most painful tragedies under Sugar’s power was the loss of memory, preventing even the closest friends and family from recognizing each other.
Viola had passed by the Thunder Soldier in the arena for eight years countless times. Her abilities had seen him daily, yet she couldn’t recognize Cyrus. Now, reunited with her family, Viola couldn’t stop her tears.
After a heartfelt reunion, Viola turned back to Nagato, blushing again, “I’m sorry, Mr. Nagato, I… I was rude again.”
“No problem.” Standing aside, Nagato had waited for them to finish speaking before addressing Viola, “Princess Viola, although it’s abrupt, with the Donquixote Family gone, I need to inform you of our purpose here.”
Viola’s kindness and warmth left Nagato momentarily speechless, but that was temporary. Nagato’s direct statement made the CP9 agents’ hearts skip a beat, their expressions turning serious.
Nagato’s calm gaze met Viola’s, who couldn’t look him in the eye. He turned away, blushing, “You saved this country. Dressrosa must repay you.”
Her words were sincere, but Nagato continued bluntly, “It’s not about repayment. We came here for Dressrosa itself, specifically, the throne.”
“What?” As expected, Viola turned her head in shock.
Just as Nagato thought she finally understood the need for a candid conversation, Viola’s next words made Nagato reconsider his plan to have Owl bring out Rebecca. “Really? I… I’m just surprised that you want to be Dressrosa’s king.”
“??!!”
The CP9 agents were all taken aback!
“You saved this country; the citizens will surely support you.” Viola genuinely admired Nagato, “I believe… you’ll be a good king.”
Nagato and the CP9 agents were stunned. Nagato lacked understanding of this world, and the CP9 agents knew little about Dressrosa.
Dressrosa’s unique passion seemed to shape its traditions and beliefs. Its people enjoyed life, food, and love, whether under Doflamingo’s indulgent rule or the frugal reign of King Riku. This mindset made them indifferent to the pursuit of power and the throne.
Doflamingo had staged a grand entrance, easily gaining Dressrosa’s support and becoming king. Nagato’s situation wasn’t much different, except his actions were genuine, not a deceptive plot. Thus, he had an even stronger claim to the throne.
“…” Viola’s response surprised Nagato again, leaving him speechless.
Nagato had meticulously planned to have Kalifa rally support for Viola, then use force and Rebecca as leverage to make Viola abdicate in his favor, strengthening his legitimacy and reducing resistance in Dressrosa. He hadn’t anticipated this turn of events.
At this moment, Cyrus spoke again.
Cyrus didn’t intend to defy Dressrosa’s traditions. Still, he deeply valued King Riku’s legacy and, as a loyal supporter of the Riku family, couldn’t help but consider Viola’s and the Riku family’s well-being: “Mr. Nagato, may I ask if you are married?”
