- Chapter 100 - That Person
The sudden appearance of the figure wearing a wooden mask brought an unexpected shift in the battle. Placing both hands on the ground, the figure shouted:
“Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees!”
The ground began to churn as countless plant roots and vines twisted like giant serpents, growing green branches towards the sky. The twisted tree trunks spread out, breaking through the earth and stone, rooting deep below to block the overwhelming torrent.
The figure slowly lifted their head, their gaze lingering on Neiki for a few seconds before turning to the fully transformed Yagura. The voice was powerful, exuding the aura of a righteous ninja:
“It’s over, Three-Tails.”
“Wood Release: Wood Dragon Jutsu!”
“Who exactly are you…?” Yagura was stunned, but before he could finish speaking, a massive dark green wood dragon burst from the ground in front of him, wrapping its serpentine body tightly around him.
The Three-Tails struggled desperately, but under the wood dragon’s constriction, it was futile, only able to let out painful roars.
Wood Release was inherently an extremely effective counter to tailed beasts, and Yagura’s opponent was extraordinarily powerful.
Hidden in the distance, the masked man and Zetsu were stunned.
Especially Zetsu.
It was as if he was seeing something that should never have appeared. Black and White Zetsu’s mouths were slightly open, and their tiny, bean-like eyes were wide.
When the masked man looked over, Black Zetsu nodded slightly, his voice low and filled with confusion:
“Indeed, it’s that person.”
“The jutsu is his.”
“The voice is his.”
“…But he’s supposed to be dead! I saw Konoha arrange his funeral with my own eyes.” White Zetsu was equally incredulous.
“So, is this guy really the God of Shinobi, Hashirama Senju?” The masked man gritted his teeth, clenching his fists tightly as he stared at the masked figure.
If even Madara is dead, why is he still alive?
Why isn’t he staying in Konoha? Why is he here?
What is his purpose?
“I always thought it was suspicious. If Madara could live so long, how could Hashirama, who was even stronger, just die suddenly? His death was clearly questionable!”
“The heavy defeat of Kirigakure on the battlefield of the Land of Waves was also his doing.”
“When I went to investigate the truth about Hashirama in the Land of Waves, my spores couldn’t even get close and were mysteriously destroyed by a white tree. That was probably his work too.”
“What’s the use of saying all this now?” The masked man interrupted the discussion between the two Zetsus with a low shout.
The Sharingan under his mask gleamed dangerously: “As long as he doesn’t take the Three-Tails away… even if he’s the God of Shinobi, Hashirama Senju, if he stands in my way, I’ll send him back to where he belongs!!”
Despite his words, the masked man knew it was not wise to confront this person without knowing his true strength.
Even someone like Madara failed against him. As a fake “Madara,” he wouldn’t stand much chance without proper preparation.
Fortunately, although Hashirama was strong, he was not alone.
The Akatsuki organization, Nagato.
They had already accumulated enough power in a short time. Even if Madara himself were alive, he might not be able to withstand the full force of the Akatsuki.
In the distance, the battle quickly subsided. Some Kirigakure ninjas attempted to rescue the bound Yagura but were obstructed by Hashirama’s Advent of a World of Flowering Trees. They couldn’t even get close, helplessly watching Yagura unleash Tailed Beast Balls that failed to break free from the increasingly tight grip of the Wood Dragon.
The battle was nearing its end.
…
Outside the Hidden Leaf Village.
A life-and-death battle crucial to Konoha’s survival was raging.
A figure swiftly crossed the surrounding obstacles, moving with clear purpose, electric light flashing in his hand.
Lightning Cutter!
Sensing danger approaching, a dark-skinned, white-haired man turned suddenly. With a “hmph,” he quickly formed hand signs as Kakashi charged forward.
“Water Release: Water Formation Wall!”
Spring water surged out, enveloping him in a protective barrier.
The attack was thwarted, causing Kakashi to pause. His Sharingan carefully observed the situation. In the next moment, as if he noticed something, he threw the Lightning Cutter towards the spring.
“Lightning Beast Running Technique!”
Damn, did he see it? Darui clicked his tongue but still launched his prepared jutsu at the approaching lightning beast:
“Lightning Release: Wave of Inspiration!”
Boom!
Water and lightning collided, creating an explosion.
Soaked by the water vapor, Darui looked at the young man standing opposite him with a kunai in hand. Noticing his Sharingan, Darui asked curiously:
“Sorry to interrupt, but I have a question. Didn’t the Uchiha clan leave Konoha because of their rebellion? What’s with your Sharingan?”
Kakashi frowned, seemingly at a loss for words at the politeness, but he observed the surrounding situation while patiently explaining: “It was a gift from a dear friend during the Third Shinobi World War.”
“It wasn’t a trophy taken from a Uchiha corpse?”
Kakashi’s face darkened, his voice cold: “No.”
Darui scratched his head, seemingly troubled: “In my village, people say the Uchiha rebelled because Konoha’s higher-ups coveted their Sharingan, forcing them to revolt. That’s why we’re here to punish such an evil Konoha… But you’re the first ninja with a Sharingan I’ve seen in this battle.”
Although the Fourth Raikage held undisputed authority in Kumogakure, battles needed justifications. After all, lives were on the line, and the brothers needed a convincing reason to fight.
Especially since Neiki and the Uchiha rebellion happened so suddenly. The Third Shinobi World War had ended long ago, and the five great nations had enjoyed a long peace. In such a situation, starting a war was not a decision made lightly.
Moreover, using Neiki and the Uchiha rebellion to justify Konoha’s downfall was not inspiring.
Instead, portraying Konoha as an evil village coveting its clans’ Kekkei Genkai resonated more with Kumogakure’s simple values and ignited their fighting spirit.
Kakashi, being sharp, understood immediately. Staring coldly at Darui, he responded succinctly:
“That’s a lie to deceive you.”
### Chapter 102: That Person
Darui nodded and said, “I figured… Sorry about the misunderstanding.”
Kakashi looked at Darui’s lazy demeanor, reminiscent of his past self.
But after experiencing Neiki and the Uchiha rebellion, witnessing his friend Kurenai’s death right before his eyes, and being used by Neiki to destroy Konoha, he had to fend off the enraged Yugao Uzuki. Now, with Konoha on the brink of destruction, Kakashi could no longer maintain his previously relaxed and carefree attitude.
He had to stay strong; Konoha needed him to defend it. He had to seek revenge, as Neiki was still out there, free.
Kakashi noticed the “?” (Thunder) symbol on Darui’s shoulder, recognizing him as an elite Jonin from Kumogakure and a potential candidate for the next Raikage. He realized that Darui held a high position and was likely very powerful. If he could take him down…
Kakashi gripped his kunai tightly.
Darui, sensing Kakashi’s urgency, waved his hand dismissively and said, “Sorry, but since you’re not the type to harm your comrades, I don’t have a reason to fight you. The battle in Konoha will end soon. How about we wait here?”
Kakashi gently shook his head, his Sharingan beginning to change. “Our battle will end before the conflict in Konoha does.”
Darui, unaware of the imminent danger, sighed when he realized a fight was inevitable. “Sorry, I might disappoint you… I’m not as weak as you might think.”
“My name is Darui. What’s yours?”
“I’m Kakashi Hatake.”
…
“Leaf Style: Dance of the Crescent Moon!”
“Cloud Style: Flying Blade!”
The three clones of Yugao Uzuki’s Dance of the Crescent Moon were swiftly cut down by flying short blades enveloped in chakra. Clenching her teeth, she charged forward, engaging in close combat with the towering blonde woman, Samui.
Though her long sword strikes were repeatedly blocked by Samui’s short blades, Samui remained calm and steadily retreated.
Around them, members of the ANBU squad were falling one by one under the attacks of Kumogakure’s ninjas. Yugao’s anxiety grew, causing her swordsmanship to become erratic.
“You need to stay calm and composed in battle,” Samui said softly. Seizing an opportunity, she thrust her right short blade into one of Yugao’s clones and then struck Yugao’s chest with her left elbow, sending her flying.
“I am calm.” Yugao, fed up with such remarks, spat blood and stood up again. Glancing at her dwindling Konoha comrades, her expression became resolute as she turned her gaze back to Samui.
Raising her long sword high, she performed the Leaf Style Swordsmanship: Hazy Moon Night!
The blade left behind a shimmering afterimage like the moon.
Samui blinked in surprise, and in the next second, countless shadows of Yugao stabbed at her with incredible speed.
…
Blood splattered as Asuma Sarutobi touched the wound on his face, his expression turning serious as he faced his opponent.
“This guy… is strong!”
Yumeno Midare smiled, her body low to the ground, blood dripping from her claws. Her gaze fixed on the “?” (Fire) symbol on Asuma’s waist sash.
“I know you, Asuma Sarutobi of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. You’re the last line of defense for Konoha. If I get past you, our reinforcements can reach Konoha’s core… What happened to you?”
“I’m honored,” replied the unkempt, booze-smelling Asuma, taking a drag from his cigarette. “But you won’t get through here.”
“You can’t stop me if I want to get through,” Midare shook her head, dismissing Asuma’s bravado. “Before I came, I promised Bee that I wouldn’t be too serious with you… So I’ll have to put in a bit of effort.”
Asuma’s eyes flickered with memories of past nightmares. He clenched his chakra blades tightly, weapons he hadn’t used in a long time. “Come on, try me. To take what I protect, you’ll have to step over my dead body.”
…
“Yo, yo… Ah, that hurts.”
Humming a tune, Killer Bee turned his head, sensing a disturbance. Before he could draw his weapons, he was sent flying by a sudden kick from a green-glowing figure emerging from the bushes.
As he got up, Bee saw the figure who had kicked him—an energetic Guy.
“How’s that? I’ve been perfecting my sneak attack technique!” Gai, with his prominent nose, laughed, watching the wary Kumogakure ninjas.
“…”
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Bee picked up his three swords and stared at Guy for a moment before saying, “So, a Taijutsu ninja, huh? No wonder that kick hurt so much… Everyone, stand down. I’ll handle this.”
“But Raikage-sama said…” one of the Kumogakure ninjas started to protest.
“No buts. Yugito Nii is a Jinchuriki, and she doesn’t have this many people with her.” Bee cut him off, annoyed. “And this guy looks like a small fry. If I need a bunch of people to handle him, it would be too embarrassing.”
The Kumogakure ninja saw no harm in letting Bee handle it alone. After all, the opponent wasn’t on their list of notable Konoha ninjas.
“Just remember… don’t expose yourself. Konoha has rumored methods to deal with Jinchuriki.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t use my tailed beast’s power…”
Bee, with swords clamped in various parts of his body, charged at Guy.
…
After being knocked away for the twentieth time.
Bee got up, glaring at the surrounding Kumogakure ninjas. “What are you still watching for? I can’t beat him. Do you want to force me to use other abilities?!”
…
Kumogakure’s ninjas were like a sharp blade piercing Konoha’s weakened heart.
From the moment a sensor ninja spotted the first Kumogakure ninja outside Konoha, the defensive line set up by Konoha crumbled like thin paper under the onslaught of hundreds of elite Kumogakure ninjas. This was why Darui said, “The battle in Konoha will end soon.”
Even so, some key positions were still fiercely defended by ninjas who stood like fortresses. Pre-set traps were triggered by the advancing Kumogakure ninjas, and explosions from paper bombs often echoed through the air. After Neiki’s attack had left Konoha in ruins, the remaining ninjas were eager to retaliate, sparing no expense on paper bombs.
Despite this, they could only barely slow down Kumogakure’s advance.
In the shadows.
Danzo looked at the Edo Tensei army before him and suddenly noticed something. Turning, he asked, “Where’s the other one?”
“That person? The Edo Tensei failed.”
Danzo frowned. The strongest one failed to be summoned?
“Hashirama Senju. I gave you the most information about his body.”
A raspy voice explained, “Body information is just one of the conditions for summoning.”
“Either his soul isn’t in the Pure Land.”
“Or the jutsu itself isn’t perfected.”
“There’s always a chance of failure.”
“No way, Hashirama Senju is still alive in this world?”
