- Chapter 99 - Destructive Path 90: Black Coffin
The ninja world is vast, with many ninjas and long periods dedicated to honing their jutsu.
Since the era of the Sage of Six Paths, countless heroes and geniuses have emerged throughout history. No one knows which remote corner might hide an extraordinary individual who has developed unique techniques.
For example, a technique that allows one to absorb the kekkei genkai of their clan to enhance themselves.
The Byakugan has the concept of purity, so theoretically, “purification” is feasible—transforming quantity into quality. The “quantity” needed could come from the eyes of other Hyuga clan members.
The Hyuga Neiki standing before them seemed to confirm this theory.
This was why the masked man’s emotions were particularly stirred.
Although both were dojutsu-type kekkei genkai, there were significant differences between the Byakugan and Sharingan.
Unlike the Byakugan, the Sharingan doesn’t have distinctions of purity. It only varies in the strength of its ocular power. The Sharingan relies more on the fusion of life force and spiritual energy and requires the bearer to undergo intense emotional stimulation.
In other words, it needs the stimulus of “love.”
Due to such intense emotional stimulation, the masked man’s Mangeky? Sharingan had reached its peak. Beyond that, there was no further path.
The Sharingan and the Rinnegan are not in an evolutionary relationship.
The Mangeky? was the limit of his Sharingan.
With the support of Hashirama cells, whether or not his Mangeky? evolved into the Eternal Mangeky? didn’t make much difference.
The path to becoming stronger had effectively ended.
He hadn’t cared much about it because he was already at the pinnacle of the ninja world, among the strongest.
But today.
Seeing Neiki.
He suddenly saw a new possibility for his Sharingan to continue evolving.
He realized that he wasn’t as indifferent to becoming stronger as he had thought.
He realized he had a strong sense of urgency.
This urgency came from the young Neiki before him.
From Itachi, who was also considered one of Konoha’s prodigies.
From Nagato.
From Zetsu.
From the old man behind Zetsu, who was long dead but whose influence lingered, trying to claw his way out of the grave.
Moreover, the most enticing aspect was that absorbing his clansmen’s eyes represented a path even that old man hadn’t trodden. It implied surpassing the old man, suggesting new possibilities. Theoretically, as long as there were enough Sharingan, he could grow infinitely stronger.
He could finally rid himself of this constant sense of urgency.
Neiki.
Itachi.
Nagato.
Zetsu.
Even if the old man from the grave crawled back, with his heart still bearing the old man’s curse, he could handle it calmly.
Not to mention collecting the nine tailed beasts, defeating the Five Great Ninja Villages, and realizing the ultimate Moon Eye Plan.
Of course, all these dreams hinged on the existence of a method to enhance oneself by absorbing the kekkei genkai of one’s clan.
“Let’s verify it then.”
Looking at Neiki facing off against the half-transformed Yagura, the masked man spoke quietly, then formed a seal with his hands.
In the next second.
Boom!
The roar flattened the surrounding trees as Yagura, who had evolved from a tailed beast cloak state to a half-beast transformation, exploded with violent chakra, ejecting the dagger that temporarily sealed his chakra points.
This was the first time the sealing sword technique had encountered such a defeat since its inception. But given the target, this wasn’t surprising. The sealing sword technique was primarily for human targets and was inadequate against a perfect jinchuriki who could borrow vast amounts of chakra from their tailed beast.
Neiki caught the ejected red dagger, turned his gaze to Yagura, and raised an eyebrow.
Yagura, now crouching, looked up with black and red chakra gathering at his nose tip.
Facing him up close, Neiki felt an indescribable sense of dread. This was nothing like Yagura’s earlier red chakra blasts; it was more like watching a gas tank swell like a balloon, ready to explode.
“You all leave…” Yagura’s voice echoed through the forest.
The upcoming battle would be too dangerous for others to participate.
Neiki stood in the wind, his robe fluttering. He held his sword, the M?ry? Ken, with a calm expression. His Byakugan focused intently on the forming tailed beast bomb, nodding slightly:
“I see. An 80-20 ratio of yin and yang forms a dense black energy orb. This tailed beast bomb is clearer than the one in Konoha…”
He looked at Yagura, who had stopped charging, and asked, “What are you hesitating for? Fire it. Let’s see its power.”
As Neiki hoped, the furious Yagura launched the tailed beast bomb.
A swift black shadow rushed forth, obliterating everything in its path. The dense two-meter-radius orb exploded just before reaching Neiki.
Boom—
The mountain trembled, dislodging countless layers of perpetual snow. Debris and flames scattered everywhere, tearing half the cliff apart. The explosion center was clear, pushing all clouds to the edges with a powerful shockwave.
“Did we get him?” a Kirigakure ninja asked.
“Should have,” another replied.
A voice came from above.
The Kirigakure ninja looked up to see Neiki standing on a branch, pulling out a kunai embedded in the tree with the Flying Thunder God seal, smiling warmly.
“You, when did you—”
The Kirigakure ninja’s shock turned to anger, but before he could react, a figure flashed by.
It was their Mizukage, Yagura.
Looking up again, the two were already fighting, destroying numerous trees.
This time, the situation was completely different. Neiki was now the one being pressured in close combat. The half-beast transformation granted Yagura immense strength and speed. His chaotic fighting style overwhelmed Neiki, who couldn’t even draw his sword before Yagura’s tail struck.
Bang!
Yagura slammed down, leaving only an empty crater. Neiki had vanished.
Sensing something, Yagura turned abruptly but too late. Neiki’s hand was already on his head.
“Destructive Path 90: Black Coffin.”
Neiki’s calm voice echoed.
Yagura saw him form a seal with one hand.
Destructive… Path?
What’s that?
Yagura didn’t know. Suddenly, everything went black. Not only Neiki, but sight, sound, smell, everything around him was swallowed by darkness.
“What… what is this?”
He stood there, bewildered.
Meanwhile, Neiki calmly took out a brush, humming a tune. He painted pupils on Yagura’s blank white eyes.
The brush burned upon touching Yagura’s skin, but the special ink remained, marking Yagura’s eyes.
The surrounding Kirigakure ninjas were stunned.
From their perspective, Neiki had used the Flying Thunder God Technique to appear behind Yagura and covered his face, rendering their Mizukage immobile.
Even as Neiki doodled on Yagura’s face, Yagura didn’t react.
“What is going on?”
They shouted loudly, but Yagura remained motionless. Someone attempted to rush forward to rescue their Mizukage, but as soon as Neiki glanced their way, they froze in fear.
“Isn’t this the Darkness Technique developed by the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju… How did it become Destructive Path 90: Black Coffin?”
White Zetsu’s puzzled voice echoed from the corner.
“There’s a difference. The Darkness Technique developed by Tobirama only strips away the victim’s sight. Neiki’s technique seems to strip away smell, hearing, and even touch,” Tobi, the masked man, identified the issue right away.
“However, it’s clear that Neiki’s technique is an improved version of the Darkness Technique. He didn’t even change the hand signs much.”
“So it seems the outcome is decided. This Fourth Mizukage has no resistance to genjutsu after all,” Black Zetsu said in a raspy voice.
Especially since he was already under the masked man’s genjutsu control.
“No, this technique must have other weaknesses…” The masked man pondered for a moment, picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it at the immobilized Yagura.
“Clang!”
The stone was sliced by Neiki’s sword. Neiki glanced in the direction from which the stone came.
Though the attempt failed, a satisfied chuckle emerged from beneath the mask.
Neiki’s quick reaction, preventing the stone from hitting Yagura, was itself a confirmation.
“So it’s like this.”
“It doesn’t strip away touch entirely. Yagura’s semi-beast transformation ignored the sensation of the brush Neiki used. This has more to do with Yagura’s state than Neiki’s technique.”
“This guy really excels at developing such flashy jutsus.”
Since their first encounter in the forest, Neiki had continuously surprised the masked man with various unheard-of techniques. For someone of Neiki’s age, even a genius shouldn’t have this level of expertise, developing and improving jutsus as if it were child’s play.
“Not to mention, he seems to have noticed us,” Black Zetsu observed that Neiki’s gaze remained fixed in their direction.
“He’s just sensitive. Even the Byakugan cannot see through our presence,” the masked man scoffed.
They were not in plain sight but were using Zetsu’s Mayfly Technique to merge with the surrounding trees. This allowed them to relocate without revealing their presence. Even the Byakugan would only see ordinary trees.
Zetsu had stolen countless secrets from Konoha without ever being detected, validating this method.
Talkative White Zetsu was unusually silent, also feeling that Neiki had somehow noticed them. Even when he moved using the Mayfly Technique, Neiki’s gaze followed.
“…”
White Zetsu hesitated before speaking, “He really seems—”
“So what?” the masked man interrupted coldly, clearly irked, “The fight isn’t over yet.”
“Are you going to intervene?” Black Zetsu asked, turning to the masked man.
“He’s not worth it yet!” the masked man replied icily. He stared at Yagura, who was tentatively exploring his surroundings like a newborn. Clasping his hands, he muttered, “Show your true power as a perfect Jinchuriki, Yagura.”
Simultaneously, Yagura seemed to sense something. Following the masked man’s movements, he clasped his hands and began forming hand signs.
“This is the highest expression of a Jinchuriki’s power when enhanced by human intelligence,” the masked man continued. “Only true perfect Jinchuriki can achieve this.”
“Show the level you displayed when you fought us, Yagura.”
“I return your freedom. Use all your power to eliminate the enemy before you!”
“Complete Beast Transformation!”
As his voice fell, the final hand sign was completed.
Neiki turned his head, observing the terrifying aura emanating from Yagura. He sighed slightly but couldn’t suppress the anticipation in his eyes.
Excellent! Just like this.
Well done, Tobi.
Only enemies of this caliber, only battles of this intensity, can truly spread the will of revolution across the entire ninja world!
Neiki remained motionless. The modified “Destructive Path 90: Black Coffin” was not the powerful kido spell from another manga that could suppress all enemies. Although Neiki was indeed trying to perfect it, just as many other jutsu had deviated from his initial predictions, this technique currently had no offensive capability. Any external interference could cause it to fail.
Any unnecessary movement would only hasten Yagura’s awakening.
And the backup plan Neiki had prepared was just arriving.
While Neiki was lost in thought, Yagura before him had fully transformed into the Three-Tails Isobu. Like glass shattering, Isobu’s eyes cleared.
Not only Neiki’s genjutsu but also the masked man’s control over Yagura failed.
This was the cost of complete transformation.
Memories of being controlled surged back into Yagura’s mind.
A silence fell, then the forest began to tremble.
“You… you all… you bastards!!!”
“I am the Mizukage, and you…”
“You dare!!”
“You dare control me!!”
“Die!!!”
“Water Release: Isobu Waterfall!”
From the mountain, a tsunami rushed forth.
“Oh my, he’s gone completely mad,” White Zetsu laughed.
“Let’s see how Neiki responds,” Black Zetsu said calmly.
The masked man’s eyes glinted.
What could he do? Back then, he and Nagato, along with Konan, had to go through considerable effort to capture Yagura, a perfect Jinchuriki.
Before Neiki could react, a figure in a wooden mask appeared in their field of vision.
“Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees!”
With a wave of his hand.
Heaven and earth flipped.
