- Chapter 69 - The Daimyo: Naoki Kaguya Will Break Our Chains on the Ninjas
Under the escort of their guards, the Daimyo and his son ascended the stairs and opened the door.
Under the sharp gazes of Naoki and the Third Mizukage, the two slowly walked to the central seat, the one reserved exclusively for the Daimyo.
“Lord Daimyo.”
Neither rose; they simply nodded lightly, acknowledging the Daimyo’s presence.
The Daimyo, not minding the slight, eagerly asked.
“Third Mizukage, Fourth Mizukage, please recount the recent events once more.”
In the corner of his eye, the Third Mizukage saw Naoki nod slightly before he began to speak solemnly.
“…That’s roughly the situation.”
The Third Mizukage slowly recounted the fact that he had been controlled by genjutsu for over a decade. Ignoring the shocked expressions of the father and son before him, he immediately presented his resignation papers, along with a well-written letter recommending Naoki.
“This is absurd.”
“I’ve never heard of a ninja being able to control someone’s thoughts and actions for so long.”
The Daimyo said with a bitter smile, hurriedly picking up a cup of strong tea to sip and hide the panic in his eyes.
What is happening?
Aren’t these ninjas’ jutsu only supposed to be for fighting and killing?
How can there be a jutsu that controls someone’s thoughts and actions?
And if even a powerful figure like the Third Mizukage couldn’t avoid it, what would happen if such power were used against us?
Thinking this, the Daimyo felt a chill and immediately planned to recruit more ninjas capable of countering genjutsu upon returning to the Daimyo’s residence.
No, that’s not enough.
The slowly swirling water in the teacup reflected his panicked eyes.
I must inform the other Daimyos of this. Only then can we ensure our safety.
These ninjas are truly terrifying.
“Lord Daimyo, I understand this seems outrageous and hard to believe, but this is the reality that has thrown both the Hidden Mist and my personal honor to the ground.”
The Daimyo put down his teacup, silently raised his fan, and gently waved it to dispel the sweat, unsure if it was from the hot tea or sheer terror.
After a while, he calmed down and spoke again, shaking his head as if in regret.
“The situation has reached this point and can’t be changed. Third Mizukage, let the future rest with the young.”
He flipped through the recommendation letter handed to him by the Third Mizukage, repeatedly finding only one name—Naoki.
Huh.
Is this the result of a coup?
The Daimyo thought, slightly mocking these ninjas in his mind and labeling Naoki as a mere destroyer.
He still asked because he couldn’t change the decision to make Naoki the Fourth Mizukage.
“So, Third Mizukage, you want to recommend such a young person as the Fourth Mizukage? Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
“Of course.”
The Third Mizukage nodded quietly and added.
“Naoki is my only recommendation. To stabilize the Hidden Mist Village, he is the only choice.”
“I understand.”
The Daimyo paused and nodded.
“Since the Fourth Mizukage is decided, it’s time to discuss other matters.”
Saying this, he suddenly smiled and turned to Naoki.
“Fourth Mizukage, let’s not talk about the official ceremonies and procedures for becoming the Kage. It’s time to discuss the peace negotiations with the Leaf Village, isn’t it?”
Naoki smiled and nodded, murmuring to the side.
“Mei, present it to the gentlemen.”
Hearing this, Mei, suppressing a sigh, nodded stiffly.
She turned and brought out the excessively bold peace treaty, handing it to the Third Mizukage and the Daimyo of the Land of Water.
After a brief glance, a few words in the treaty made their hearts race.
Lease, cede, reparations, war criminals… The Daimyo of the Land of Water felt dizzy and had an even lower opinion of Naoki.
Without finishing, he looked up and said.
“Fourth Mizukage, we need to reconsider this treaty.”
“The Leaf Village won’t accept these terms.”
Almost instinctively, the Third Mizukage was about to agree, but thinking of his Hidden Mist headband, he stopped and sat quietly, waiting for Naoki’s command.
Naoki sat up straight, addressing the Daimyo seriously, a future troublemaker.
“Lord Daimyo, the Leaf Village is already defeated. If we don’t seize this opportunity to make significant demands, how can we gain enough benefits?”
“But still.”
The Daimyo began, his eyes moving across the treaty and seeing free trade and leased lands. He immediately grew tense.
Naoki is a terrifying individual.
When ninjas start thinking about things beyond fighting and killing, isn’t that the most destabilizing development?
He must be stopped.
Suppressing his emotions, he feigned casualness and asked.
“Fourth Mizukage, such terms are understandable for negotiation, but what does leasing these lands from the Land of Fire mean?”
Naoki answered immediately.
“Of course, it’s to facilitate trade for our merchants and promote economic prosperity.”
The Daimyo clenched his fists, interrupting urgently.
“That should be under our jurisdiction.”
“After all, it involves—”
Naoki’s previously relaxed expression turned serious, cutting him off coldly.
“Naturally not. To prevent the Leaf Village from retaliating and reclaiming these places, we need to station troops to ensure safety.”
“Is that so?”
The Daimyo of the Land of Water feigned a casual smile, about to firmly oppose to protect the Daimyo’s power.
But seeing Naoki’s stern young face and remembering the Sharingan that controlled the Third Mizukage for over a decade, he sighed.
“Then so be it.”
“And, Fourth Mizukage, I should be present for the peace talks, correct?”
“Yes.”
Naoki nodded.
“Since it involves territorial issues.”
The Daimyo of the Land of Water sipped from his cup, finally relaxing.
“Fourth Mizukage, prepare well.”
“If you can truly force the Leaf Village to accept these terms, it might indeed turn the world upside down.”
“Of course, Lord Daimyo.”
Naoki replied earnestly.
Outside, sitting in the carriage, the Daimyo turned to Jin.
“Jin, temporarily forget what I taught you.”
Still pondering how to describe his plans against Naoki to his father, Jin looked puzzled and asked.
“Father, what do you mean?”
The Daimyo, a bit helpless, said.
“Among those ninjas, those destroyers, there is an unusual individual.”
“They are trying to organize their own economic system.”
“We must stop them!”
Jin clenched his fists and said seriously, having understood the foundation of his family’s power.
The Daimyo merely shook his head, silently removing Jin from the list of Daimyo candidates.
Being sufficiently mediocre, his brother wouldn’t think of stopping things that cannot be stopped.
That’s good.
“Bring Shisui.”
Naoki ordered from within the Mizukage’s office.
