Naruto: Konoha Silver Wolf - Chapter 65
After Kakashi returned to report, he learned that all the enemy ninjas infiltrating the Forest of Death had been eliminated. Moreover, the highest-ranking enemies were only elite Chunin, none possessing Jonin-level strength, and they were all past the prime growth period of their youth.
Although the enemy ninjas did not carry any identifiable headbands from their villages, through information sharing, Kakashi and his team deduced that ninety percent of them were from the Hidden Cloud Village.
The Hidden Cloud Village had sent this potential-less, expendable Chunin to assassinate the new generation of Leaf Village ninjas—a cruel and cunning tactic.
“Since we know the enemies are from the Hidden Cloud Village, there’s no reason we shouldn’t retaliate!”
“Wolf, I have a mission for you!”
Danzo’s cold gaze fell on Kakashi as he spoke.
“Yes, Lord Danzo!”
Kakashi responded immediately.
“At the border of the Land of Lightning, there’s a village called Den Village. Many of our intelligence leaks to the Hidden Cloud Village have been through this village. Your mission is to eliminate Den Village!”
Danzo said, pointing to the location of Den Village on a world map on his desk.
“Yes, Lord Danzo!”
Kakashi nodded. Such a village should have been dealt with long ago. Perhaps the Leaf Village had only recently discovered Den Village’s activities.
“Lord Danzo, am I to complete this mission alone?”
Kakashi couldn’t help but ask. He hadn’t heard any mention of other ANBU members accompanying him and was surprised by the prospect. Until now, he had never executed an ANBU mission alone.
“That’s right, just you. Is there a problem?”
Danzo’s left eye hid a strange gleam as he looked at Kakashi and spoke sternly.
“No problem, I will complete the mission at all costs!”
Kakashi replied, a hint of excitement in his voice. He preferred to carry out missions alone.
“Good, then set off immediately!”
Danzo nodded in approval, then added, “And remember, in Den Village, leave no one alive, regardless of gender or age!”
Kakashi’s body trembled slightly at these words, casting a surprised glance at Danzo. He felt a chill run through him; Danzo was indeed dark-hearted. The excitement in Kakashi’s eyes vanished, replaced by hesitation as he thought about carrying out such a ruthless task.
“Understood!”
After a moment’s hesitation, Kakashi firmly replied. He knew there were some things he couldn’t avoid, especially while working under Danzo. He had anticipated being assigned inhumane tasks; he didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“Good! Dismissed!”
Danzo gave a low-voiced commendation and dismissed Kakashi to carry out his mission.
Kakashi nodded and left, internally cursing. He wondered when his time under Danzo’s command would end. Just looking at Danzo made him uncomfortable.
“Well, consider it training. At least the missions Danzo gives are dangerous and challenging!”
Kakashi tried to console himself.
“Kakashi, let me see if you, with your Sharingan, have the potential to become another White Fang of the Leaf Village.”
Watching Kakashi’s disappearing figure, Danzo murmured coldly. This mission wasn’t just about its execution; Danzo wanted to test Kakashi’s potential with the Sharingan. He was already aware of the side effects that the Sharingan had on Kakashi.
What would happen once he understood Kakashi’s potential was evident from the cold glint in Danzo’s eyes.
Unaware of Danzo’s ulterior motives, Kakashi had already left the village, moving swiftly towards the Land of Lightning.
“Too bad I can’t see if Kurenai passes the second round of the Chunin Exams. Rin isn’t in the village either; I couldn’t even say goodbye.”
Kakashi muttered, shaking off thoughts of the Leaf Village. He pulled out all the information about Den Village from his pocket, which was data collected by the Leaf ANBU.
His eyes widened slightly when he saw the number of Jonin in Den Village.
“Damn, three Jonin!”
Kakashi didn’t expect such a small village to have three Jonin-level ninjas. This mission was akin to an S-rank task, yet Danzo had sent him alone.
“Thirteen Chunin, twenty-four Genin… and these are just the known figures…”
Seeing the detailed analysis of Den Village’s strength, Kakashi’s eyelid twitched. He almost jumped in frustration.
“Damn it, does Danzo want me dead?”
Kakashi cursed internally, realising how challenging this mission would be.
He stopped momentarily, staring at the information about Den Village, unsure whether he should proceed alone. The mission seemed extremely dangerous.
Clutching the crumpled information in his hand, Kakashi’s hesitation vanished. He then resumed his journey towards the Land of Lightning.
His destination remained Den Village…
